I reserve my opinion on this deal until we see how he plays, Hughes always would have been a better player if he shot less and I don't think that has changed. If they let DJ continue to be aggressive and take shots while Hughes brings the ball up and lets DJ run of screens, etc. I'm ok with it.

Even if DJ goes back in the tank, we can do better offensively than Larry Hughes shooting every time he touches the ball.

btw....

"DJ was bad until the last few games where he has played better"

and

"DJ was coming around"

are the same thing.

Any way, getting the topic back on track.................

I think Hughes will help a lot of guys on the roster with his ability to get them the ball in the right spot for them to score.

And what has he done specifically to prove himself worthy of a 9th overall pick? I'd take 7 guys drafted after him in a straight up trade right now. He's playing like a early 20s pick. Don't homer out on us and think DJ has done anything yet to earn his draft spot.

Last season and glimpses of this season he's proven to be worthy of a #9 selection. Consistent play is sometimes an issue with young players, especially guards who have their minutes fluctuate.

Anyway, re: Larry Hughes... I think it will work out, just expect his size will have LB sitting DJ more often, so I'd expect him to fall back into a slump. Hope not though.

Valid concern. I really hope it's not the case though. Hope that LB does a little more with his sub patterns/line ups that allows DJ to get his and that Hughes 100% knows his role while he is here.

If that is the case it would end up in a win/win/win for us.

I guess it's possible Hughes just takes any minutes Graham or Hendo would get. That would be a positive. I'm just afraid it's going to be more Flipesque.

gone are the felton ammo days when i advocated playing young guys even when they hadnt really earned the minutes. this is a team in a playoff run, there are no free minutes for the young guys. only earned minutes.

if dj cant beat out hughes for minutes then he sits.

if dj's ego is so frail that he cant handle the competition, then he sits.

hopefully neither of those things happen.

I do agree with that Fats.

Our aim should be the playoffs by any means necessary. If that means Hughes plays over DJ, then so be it.

I just hope that LB doesn't stick with Hughes in a game if he is stinking it up like he has at times with Flip when he was here and Jax and that comes at the cost of DJ's mins.

Like Walt said though, hopefully any mis Hughes gets comes at the cost of Hulk and Hendo and DJ's PT actually increases rather than decreases.

I also agree with Fats. I'm fine with Hughes taking minutes from DJ as long as he's getting them because he's playing well.

I'm actually growing even less enthused about this move as each minute passes.

My expectations are now:

- Don't screw up when you're in
- Give Jack and/or Gerald a few minutes of rest

That's literally it - and literally all I would trust him to do at this point.

Newly signed Larry Hughes will have a doctor's appointment in Charlotte before the team leaves late Thursday for Atlanta. His broken left hand could be cleared to start contact at that examination.

So if he is cleared tomorrow, what's the chances he will be ready to suit up on Fri and Sat night?

It sounds like he has still been working out so he wouldn't have to blow any rust off - right?

I would give him a few games to get his timing/shake off rust.

The schedule really fell into place for him. 2 games of spots minutes to warm up (Atlanta and Miami), followed by 3 games where the team can really throw him into the fire (A home and home with Washington with a home game against the Wolves stuck in the middle).
