Amare didn't request max money...

Post#1 » by MaryvalesFinest » Tue Mar 16, 2010 7:25 am

According to Paul Coro, I found this in his recent blog

2) No doubt, especially with the spenders that will be out there and the possibility of the other marquee free agents staying home. However, he didn't request max money in his extension proposal with the Suns a month ago. Another interesting summer is ahead.

He knows what's going on and doesn't make up rumors so I assume this is true...If this is the case I have no clue what management is doing...

14-15 mil per makes the process more attractive. Micro-fracture knees past 30 years old, ugh... If this team wants to keep him don't make it more than 2-3 years plz.

Yeah even if they didn't want to keep him long term, if he was asking for less than the max they could have locked him up on a contract and than traded him.

he didnt ask max money but he did ask for sarver to promise him that they are going to be open to get other stars here. he is doing what d-wade is doing with miami and what lebron is doing in cleveland. Fact is the suns will not get a replacement for amare so I think they should commit to sign him. I dont think what he is asking is out of line. the guys wants to win. the game vs the lakers just showed you that this team is really built around amare. amare lost 1 yr to microfracture and all of a sudden this team becomes steve. the suns are lying to themselves if they really think they can be as good without amare on the floor. do u really blame a guy for wanting a secure future? what would you do in his place? wouldnt u even as fans want a mandate from sarver that he will try to get stars in phx to continue winning?

It's not about the money, it's about the length. I think they'd much rather give him 3 years/60 million than something like 5 years/75-80 million, and I don't fault them for that at all.

Could have sworn we were talking about this exact thing, Amar'e not requesting max, here last night

http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=995005&start=30

Anyway, even if the price tag is high max him out. Otherwise we don't see the playoffs for anywhere from 3 to 7 years no matter how you look at it. I said more in the other thread but that's the gist of it.

Yeah it was the length that was the issue, not the money. Suns know he's going to have to get his microfracture surgery revisited eventually. Tough to tell when or if that will actually have to happen, since microfracture is such a new procedure with professional athletes.

Haha not after he signs a huge deal. This is the best streak of his career and it so happens to be right before he could be a FA.

Um no he averaged 26/9 for an entire season before and he can still get better he is only 27.

I think the way Amare is playing this is smart. You have to start high, but he knows with his injuries, its better to get paid near max and have a guaranteed contract. I personally would do it like this if I was Kerr/sarver. (then again, i would have done a tone of things different then them)

Anyways
Pick up his option at 17 mil. Sign him for 3 years 45 mil. = 62 mil.

If he wants 4 years, and the suns want 2 years, then come in the middle with a team option for the 4th year. This gives us some room down the road to sign another FA to play with Amare. Problem is, who is that FA who would take similar money as Jrich? We need a stud SG on this team. Start that is, not a role player like Fernandez

On the contrary, I think Fernandez starts here. I like him as a starting SG for us, leaves $$ for other positions too.

Do whatever it takes to sign him. I don't care. Amare + Nash = our only hopes for a title. Build around them.

start high for a shorter deal (to allow for new CBA) - ie 3 years

and reduce per year price for every year added on after that

ie - 3 years 60 mil,
4 years 70 mil,
5 years 78mil

i am desperate to keep him and nash together, they ARE phoenix and I want to see both retire here and would happily overpay to see that

Yeah like i said he's never played better than the streak he's on right now, 27 and 10 since the ASG. LBJ or Durant for the Max count me in, Amare hell no. Amare at 14-15 hell yeah.

I thought it was always clear he was interested in the "years" and not total salary. Strange there is some still insisting he is out for max money.
