Figured I'd start a thread to track the status of GK.

Say what you will about GK but this article show's you what he's going through....Cancer really sucks

The coach with the seventh-most wins in NBA history is having a glass of water and looking at film of the Minnesota Timberwolves ahead of the game the next night.

But we're not in his office. And the water just went into his stomach through a tube in his gut. And the hose from the liter bag of Erbitux, a cancer drug, dripping into his left arm hangs over the laptop he's trying to watch film on. And we're not in his office, we're at the Swedish chemo lab. This is the one day of the week he adds dripping to the zapping. You fight the dragon any way they tell you.

Sounds like it's starting to get pretty bad. I wonder how many more games he has left in him. He might be done after these next two, and we head on the road until April.

I can't blame the man for trying to take care of it as soon as it was diagnosed, but I wonder how much it would have grown/spread by waiting until the season was over.

At any rate, it was alright seeing him on the bench again. I got all emo and everything, then the game started and those feelings of content, compasion, and respect for the man quickly turned into the same select choices in verbage that I usually find myself yelling in his direction, none of which need to be repeated

I can't blame the man for trying to take care of it as soon as it was diagnosed, but I wonder how much it would have grown/spread by waiting until the season was over.

I didn't see a problem with the coaching tonight. I saw a problem with energy. Blame whoever you want there were few to none in the area of catalysts.

I don't think anyone would disagree with me when I say you need to play basketball with energy or passion otherwise it just doesn't make sense.

No, I am not blaming him for the coaching job he did, and I wasn't trying to go there. I guess I was trying to say that it was good to have a familiar face back on the sidelines to yell at, weird as that sounds.

People live with it everyday that don't do anything medically to try and treat/beat it. Several live with it for years without even knowing they have it, and then once they find out their health deteriorates. You would be surprised at all of the alternative approaches people take to try and beat cancer. Some cancers spread and continue to grow while other forms don't, and like I said I don't blame him for trying to take care of it as soon as he found out, I was just wondering about the type he has and its ability to continue to grow/spread.

And I'm sure he appreciated it too. Personally I would hate people being all buddy buddy to me just because I have some illness. Being yelled at would be like a normalcy for him, which is always good.

Don't know when it's going to happen, but if they show up like that teams like the Lakers or Cleveland are just going to run away with it. Over the past 4-5 years it has always come down to 6-8 points in the final minutes due to some lapse early in the game.

Since Karl can't necessarily get up and yell with ease maybe the yelling should be more toward those who have the ability to get up and move around.

Well this was there 4th game in 5 days...All the yelling in the world can't get them up when they are physically tired. Maybe seeing GK on the bench gave them enough motivation to pull it out in the end like they did.

I don't see them being complacent in the playoffs when there is more time between games. Last year they lost on a few stupid passes, their effort and hustle wasn't the problem, I'd say it was inexperience.

I know that he is being through a lot and i wish him all the best as another human being. I understand how devastating the cancer can be, experienced it in my family years ago. Get well coach.

On the other hand i like AD Billups coaching mix. Total experience that might not be there but balls are there to be offensive while being defensive. Rotation are involving more players to keep guys fresh down the stretch. Who knows what...... We could be in very good position entering playoff.

I've had my issues with GK, but his dedication to the team while battling this cancer is certainly something to be admired.

Kick this thing's ass quick, coach.

Yup. GK hasn't given up. That speaks volumes. It's been an obstacle course for sure.

^^^ At half time Cheryl Miller talked to JR and asked him about the GK situation. He said that he fine early and as the day wore on his throat got so sore that he could barely talk, so he elected not to coach this one. JR said that the team was playing for him and then he ran off in the direction of the locker room.

You guys have a hell of a coach in George Karl, this man sincerely loves the game and loves his team. He's grown with these group of guys. I haven't the doubt Karl will return to the bench, and I haven't the doubt the Nuggets will be a strong contender to come out of the West.
