The Kobe Bryant Arena (Courtesy Congo Cash)

Post#1 » by Slava » Thu Mar 18, 2010 8:14 am

I always say, when we talk about Michael Jordan we always set him apart. But people gotta realize now, it’s not just Michael Jordan. It’s Kobe too. I told him, “I’m going to give you the best gift you’ve ever had … I’m building a basketball court in Congo with your name on it. People they love you there. You helped me to get a ring, I’m going to give you something back. I’m going to give you a basketball court with your name – that’s something nobody else can have. Even Michael Jordan never had that. I told him, “You’re going to give people hope. There are kids that are stealing, killing, (doing drugs) … instead I want them to play basketball at the Kobe … Bryant … Court.” It’s going to be in Kinshasa*. They are going to start working on it in a couple of weeks. Everything’s already been set up through my foundation.

It makes me feel great. He told me he was going to have a surprise for me, and something he and I talk about often is visiting Congo and speaking to some of the kids. DJ and I have a really close relationship. This is a tremendous honor, something that I didn’t expect. (DJ does) a ton for (the people) over there. It’s something that people don’t hear about, but he doesn’t do it for the attention, he does it because it’s something that’s close to his heart. I absolutely have to (go visit).

Jordan does have court(s) named after him though...

It's DJ's personality on why I always liked him, you can see that he was the type of guy that tried to help if he was able to. And a lot of guys try to rag on DJ's ball ability, but I look around at 3rd string centers and I don't see one that head and shoulders above him. DJ's had some games where he's helped in a short stint.

But that's a nice gesture he's doing for Kobe.

I see DJ going somewhere else this summer for more pay and more playing time. I want him to stay, he can win here. I just thinks he will get more money than the Lakers want to offer. Lakers are trying to save money and he I bet wants a raise.

Good story about DJ and Kobe building for a good cause. But I don't think DJ will be going anywhere besides LA unless David Kahn wants to overpay another 3rd string center (Ryan Hollins).

nice read and find j far. i know kobe isn't a saint but i think he get's so much attention because of the people that dislike him that sometimes we forget that there are people that do like him. me myself i have always been a big fan of dj's. my respect for him grew alot when i read the story about him escaping persecution in his homeland. he is the type of guy you keep around just because he is genuine.
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!
