Craig Smith vs. Drew Gooden

Depending on which FA we'll sign and who we'll get in the draft, we will most likely have an option to resign and keep one of our PFs.
Who would you rather keep on the team to back-up Blake Griffin next season.

Drew Gooden:
* Height: 6-10
* Weight: 250
* Born: Sep 24, 1981 - Oakland, California
He most likely would demand $5-6mil a year and a 4 year contract.

I voted for Gooden as well.

It's kind of tough, because I've like both players. Gooden is clearly the better player and provides better size. He would be a great player to bring off of the bench who could put up efficient scoring and rebounding. He'd cost a little more and would have to be willing to accept a reduction in minutes though.

Smith has excellent footwork and has showed that he can be a scoring punch in short bursts. He's also the hometown kid and would be less expensive.

The issue would be how would minutes be dispersed. Griffin, Kaman & Jordan will already be sharing 96 minutes as it is. How much would Smith or Gooden require in order for them to want to re-sign. Griffin could end up playing some spot minutes at the 3 to accommodate, but that likely would depend on the match-up.

I really wish we would just trade Chris Kaman's soft-ass. Dude cannot produce a strong finish under the hoop if it saved his life. Just lay-ups and terrible hook-shots. It's pathetic.

it's how uncoordinated he is which frustrates me. if those lay-ups and hook-shots were any close to hakeem olajuwon's, i wouldn't mind.

I would keep Craig Smith and try to trade Kaman/picks/even possibly Gordon to get John Wall.

The issue with Gooden throughout his career is that he defense is just atrocious. I haven't watched many games since he joined the team so I can't say how he's been playing on that end. But he's been damn good when he comes to rebounding and scoring.

Craig plays lazyass defense. I don't know how many times he's just swung his hands down to prevent a guy from taking a shot close to the rim. It's one of the reasons why he can't get a lot of minutes is due to foul trouble. He sure knows how to use his size when he has the ball though.

Although Craig Smith would be cheaper option, Gooden is a proven player. He is very solid offensively, and faster and taller than Smith. Smith can't defend long and athletic PFs.
If everyone is healthy I would expect our bigs to share minutes this way.
Griffin 26 at PF and 8 at SF = 34 mins total
Kaman 32 at C = 32mins total
Dj 8 at C 4 at PF = 12 mins total
Gooden 18 at PF + 8 at C = 26 mins total

gooden's problem is that he's not a good help defender. he's never averaged more than a block per game for a full season playing starter minutes. just in general, his timing seems to be off and as a result, he screws up his defensive rotations more often than he should.

i'd still much rather keep him than smith.

Wiz fan here and Im a Kaman fan. I also dont really care for anyone in this draft maybe for the exception of Turner who would fit our system nicely. We dont really need Wall with Gil coming back. Thats why I would consider trading the pick for Kaman but at the same time I think its much wiser to keep the pick and still sign a solid big or keep McGee at Center and add a SG in the draft and another 3 like Gay in FA. McGee is the only downside to Kaman because I know he will really be ready to start consistenly the following year at the most and maybe even next season

Hey idiots. Chris Kaman is an All-Star. He isn't playing the same because Kaman doesn't fit in with Kim Hughe's offense. Mark Jackson the possible next coach loves him. Baron loves him, just needs to finish at the basket better. Chris Kaman is a baller.

It's hard for me to choose between Gooden and Smith, that's why I haven't posted in this thread yet. I'd like to keep both of them but I don't think that's possible given what we have on this roster. I know there will only be time for one of them.

Chris Kaman being an allstar level center is certainly debatable. For most of the season he wasn't even the best C on this team. I like Gooden, but don't think I would be willing to pay what it would take for him to come back. So I guess Smith.

I would do that trade as well. I know this might sound crazy, and this should probably be in the trade thread, but if I was GM, I would:

1. Trade Kaman to WAS for #4
2. Trade Gordon/#4/#10 for #1 (John Wall)
3. Trade Baron for Tyson Chandler

Then we would build able to build around Blake and John Wall, and we would have almost $30 million in cap space, along with Tyson Chandler's huge expiring contract.
