Paul Pierce scored 26 points, Ray Allen hit five 3-pointers and scored had 19 points, and the Boston Celtics snapped Houston's four-game winning streak with a 94-87 victory over the Rockets on Friday night.

Kevin Garnett added 15 points, and Rajon Rondo had 10 assists for the Celtics, who smothered high-scoring Houston point guard Aaron Brooks and held the Rockets to 39.5 percent shooting (30 of 76). Brooks, coming off back-to-back 31-point games, was held to 10 on 4-for-12 shooting and failed to hit a 3 for the first time in 40 games.

Luis Scola and Kevin Martin scored 17 points apiece for the Rockets.

Manu Ginobili scored 23 points and the San Antonio Spurs throttled the Golden State Warriors 147-116 on Friday night, scoring the most points under Popovich since he took over as head coach in 1996.

Richard Jefferson had 21 points as the Spurs tore through the Warriors, whose defense was dreadful even by their NBA-worst standards. The Spurs shot 65 percent from the field and put up the most points against Golden State this season.

Monta Ellis scored 39 points, and Corey Maggette had 30 for the Warriors. Golden State coach Don Nelson didn't stick around long, getting ejected in the first quarter for arguing a foul.

Pistons coach John Kuester continues to tweak playing rotations
The Detroit Pistons were back to full strength Friday night when they played Indiana. But that didn't mean Pistons coach John Kuester is done tweaking his rotation. Point guard Rodney Stuckey and center Ben Wallace returned to action Friday night, but both of them came off the bench for the first time this season.

Will Bynum and Jason Maxiell were in the starting lineup again, but Kuester had to alter the rotation in a few ways. One involved forward Tayshaun Prince, whose role will change even if his minutes played do not. "You can make some adjustments," Kuester said of having Stuckey and Wallace back. "The reason Tayshaun was on the floor a little bit longer at times is because we needed a point guard. We still want Tayshaun to handle the basketball. But now, bringing Stuckey back allows us to go a different direction."

Prince played 44 minutes Tuesday in a loss to Cleveland. He had 15 points, seven rebounds and a team-high eight assists. Stuckey had not played since collapsing on the bench March 5 during a game against Cleveland, while Wallace had missed the previous eight games with a right patella tendon strain.

Scoop Jardine had 14 points, Rick Jackson added 12 points and eight rebounds, and Andy Rautins finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Orange. Freshman Brandon Triche, whose confidence was suffering after scoring just nine points in his previous four games, had 10 points.

Marqus Blakely led Vermont with 17 points and Evan Fjeld had 13.

Diebler scored 23 points and Lauderdale blocked a career-high eight shots and grabbed 12 rebounds for the second-seeded Buckeyes (28-7), who won without much offense from their top player. Turner was held to nine points while going 2 of 13 from the field -- one of the worst shooting performances of his career.

Turner did have 10 rebounds, and William Buford added 16 points for the Buckeyes.

Orlando Johnson scored 20 points for No. 15 seed UC Santa Barbara (20-10).

Pistons at Pacers
Postgame Quotes - March 19, 2010
Regular Season Game #69
Pistons Head Coach John Kuester
“(Was this game a tale of two halves?)
It seems that way. I thought our guys in the second half played the way we’re supposed to. We defended and played hard. (On DaJuan Summers) I am very proud of him. He worked really hard in practice. He had poise. (On Rodney Stuckey) He had a couple of days to get rest. He feels comfortable now. I thought his energy was great tonight and I was very proud of him. (On the game) The bottom line, you have to make plays at the end and we didn’t do that.”

Pistons Forward Jonas Jerebko
“They made some shots at the end and we missed two or three open jump shots. That’s basketball. I think we showed we’re a strong team when we play like we should. (Was it defense that created the opportunities?) Definitely. We got some stops and some hands on the ball and some steals. We came out in transition and took advantage of it.”

Pistons Guard Rodney Stuckey
“(How he feels coming back for the first time)
I feel alright. The plan wasn’t to play all those minutes, but it was just in the heat of the game. I feel fine. I’ve been working out. I feel fine, and my wind felt fine. Everything was good. (On the comeback at the end) We just had a bad foul on Granger (Danny) when he shot that three. After that we were just trying to play catch up. I thought we fought back with the second group that came in and we did a pretty good job at the end. (It was) defense. We just came in and tried to bother them a little bit. We just came in and played hard.”

Pacers Head Coach Jim O'Brien
“I thought our guys reacted well to adversity. We fought back and got the job done. We just didn’t get our normal energy we usually get from our bench. We (the starters) had dead legs and we didn’t play transition defense in the fourth quarter. Our lack of energy caused us to stop moving the ball. (On Earl Watson) I think Earl is a really, really strong leader. He models for those around him how tough you have to be to play in the NBA.”

Pacers Guard Earl Watson
“(On the first half)
We moved the ball, got open shots and got good stops. Good stops can relate into good points. After they made their run, we came back playing together and jelling together and all working in the same direction on offense and defense. This is a great step and it was a good win. We’re glad to have. We’ll have to be ready for Sunday.”

Pacers Forward Brandon Rush
“We came out more aggressive tonight and were able to help each other out in a lot of situations. When they turned the ball over we were able to move it back and get points out of it. We hit a lot of threes and got good returns on it. As long as we continue to play together we can win some more games. We’re beginning to understand what each other is doing out there. We’ve got to be ready Sunday because everybody knows Kevin Durant can be a machine.”

Jerome Randle and Theo Robertson scored 21 points apiece and eighth-seeded California squandered most of a seemingly comfortable lead before pulling away to 77-62 victory over ninth-seeded Louisville on Friday night in the first round of the NCAA tournament

The Golden Bears (24-10), who played without suspended starting forward Omondi Amoke, advanced to the second round Sunday against top-seeded Duke, a 73-44 winner over 16th-seeded Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday night.

Cal led by as many as 18 points in the first half. Louisville trimmed the deficit to 62-58 with just over 7 minutes to go, but Robertson's 3-pointer steadied the Golden Bears and the Pac-10 champions were able to finish the job with 7-for-7 free throw shooting over the final 6 minutes.

Impressive rally comes up short as Pistons lose to Pacers for third time this season
Rodney Stuckey looked good. Overall, the Detroit Pistons looked great, but only in the fourth quarter. The Pistons trailed by 24 points before they rallied to take a lead late in the game Friday night, but the Indiana Pacers responded with a late run and pulled out a 106-102 victory. The Pistons have lost all three of their games against the Pacers this season and have lost 11 of their past 13 games overall. "I thought our guys played in the second half the way we're supposed to," Pistons coach John Kuester said. "We defended and played hard." The Pistons trailed by 17 entering the fourth quarter, but outscored Indiana 25-7 to start the fourth and took a 95-94 lead on a jumper by rookie forward DaJuan Summers with 2:33 left in the game. The Pacers scored the next eight points and held on from there. "The bottom line, you have to make the plays at the end," Kuester said. "We didn't do that." Stuckey came off the bench and had 25 points, three assists and three steals in his first game since collapsing on the bench March 5 during a game against Cleveland. "He feels comfortable now," Kuester said. "I thought his energy was great."

Stuckey played almost 27 minutes, which was more than he expected. "I feel all right," he said. "The plan wasn't to play all those minutes, but it was just in the heat of the game. I feel fine. Everything was good." Summers had 10 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter and teamed with Ben Gordon, who had 14 in the fourth, to help bring the Pistons back. "I am very proud of him," Kuester said of Summers. "He's worked real hard in practice. But, more importantly, he had poise. He got shots that I thought were in the flow of the game." Summers was thrilled to contribute. "Just being out there, just having fun, just loving to play basketball," Summers said. "Whenever I'm out there, I'll cherish every moment. I'm just taking my opportunities and making the best of it." Ben Wallace came off the bench after missing the previous eight games with a right patella tendon strain. He finished with one point and seven rebounds. Wallace left in the game in the fourth quarter after tweaking his knee. "He bumped knees," Kuester said. "To what extent, I'll find out later. He was frustrated because he wanted to be in the game. Plus, he had done a great job defensively getting us extra possessions and really cleaning up the boards."

Gordon had 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Detroit, and Tayshaun Prince had 11 points. Jonas Jerebko had 10 points and six rebounds, and Jason Maxiell 10 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots. Richard Hamilton went 0-for-3 from the field and finished with zero points in 18 minutes played. It was the first time he had gone scoreless in a game since Nov. 4, 2000. "He just had an off night," Kuester said when asked if Hamilton was healthy. "There's nothing wrong with Rip." Danny Granger led the Pacers with 29 points and six assists. Troy Murphy went 4-for-7 on 3-pointers and finished with 20 points and eight rebounds. Early on, it looked as if the Pacers would bury the Pistons with a barrage of 3-pointers. Five Pacers players made 3-pointers in the first half. Indiana jumped out to a 21-6 lead, and the Pacers held a double-digit lead from that early spurt until midway through the fourth quarter. The Pacers went 12-for-22 (54.5 percent) on 3-pointers in the game and have made 31 3-pointers in three games against the Pistons this season.
