Joe Johnson lifts Hawks to overtime victory
Joe Johnson missed every shot he took for three quarters, but he found his sweet spot for his most important attempt with only a tenth of a second to spare in overtime.

Johnson had 18 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Felton led Charlotte with 25 points. Gerald Wallace had 20 points and 16 rebounds in his return after missing three games with an ankle injury. Jackson added 19 points but missed two free throws with Charlotte leading 84-82 late in regulation.

Pacers 106, Pistons 102: Rodney Stuckey's return not enough
Danny Granger took one shot for the team Tuesday night. He jabbed back even harder Friday night. Two days after the team said Granger would be out indefinitely with a cheek injury, the Indiana forward returned to the starting lineup, scored 29 points and helped the Pacers hold off Detroit 106-102. "I felt healthy," Granger said. "I don't think anything is wrong with me. I just got my block knocked off real quick and I'm OK now." If anyone thought these teams, which have two of the four worst records in the Eastern Conference, were playing for lottery picks, think again. Granger showed no indication he was about to quit on the season. Instead, after a bleary-eyed week, Granger was seeing things well enough to hit 11 of 16 from the field, both of his 3-point attempts and 5 of 6 free throws. He had six assists and three steals and made all three free throws with 1:25 to go to help seal Indiana's second win in three games. He had plenty of help, too. Troy Murphy made four 3s and had 20 points. Roy Hibbert and Brandon Rush each scored 15 points. Mike Dunleavy finished with 10 points and closed it out with four straight free throws after replacing Granger with 35.3 seconds to go.

But it was Granger's return that provided the inspiration for Indiana. "He's a very integral part of this team and we're happy to have him back," Hibbert said. "He was on fire today." Granger was only one part of the comeback story, though. Detroit's Rodney Stuckey played for the first time since collapsing on the bench two weeks ago and forward Ben Wallace finally made it onto the floor after missing eight straight games with a strained right patella tendon. Wallace finished with one point and seven rebounds while Stuckey looked like he hadn't missed a second. The Pistons guard made three 3s and scored 25 points in 27 minutes, spurring a fourth-quarter rally that wiped out a 17-point Indiana lead in the final 10 minutes. It was almost enough to end Detroit's three-game losing streak. "The plan wasn't to play all those minutes, but I mean it was just in the heat of the game," Stuckey said. "I've been working out. After this happened, I took a couple of days off, but after that I've just been working out. I feel fine." He looked fine, too, except for getting winded a few times. Still, it was nothing compared to what Stuckey and the Pistons managed to do after falling into a 24-point deficit just 20 seconds into the second half. They still trailed by 17 after three quarters and by the same 17-point margin Granger hit a 3 with 9:50 left in the game.

That's when Stuckey provided the spark. His steal and layup made it 92-79. Another steal and a subsequent assist on Ben Gordon's 3 with 5:05 left got Detroit within 94-85. His 14-foot jumper with 3:17 left cut the lead 94-93 and DaJuan Summers closed out the 15-0 run with a 21-footer that gave Detroit its only lead of the game, 95-94 with 2:51 left. Suddenly, the Pacers were in trouble and the sparse crowd at Conseco Fieldhouse was quiet. "I thought our guys in the second half played the way they're supposed to. We defended and played hard," coach John Kuester said. "I thought his (Stuckey) energy was great tonight and I am very proud of him." But after taking the Pistons' punch, the Pacers, behind Granger, finally righted themselves. Earl Watson took a rebound and went coast-to-coast for the go-ahead layup. Granger followed that by making all three free throws to give Indian a 99-95 lead, and Murphy made two more free throws to extend the margin to 101-95. Detroit didn't closer than six until the final basket. "He looks fine, he looked like the same Grange," Rush said. "I don't even think he was really that hurt."

Rodney Stuckey gives Pistons a boost in another downer
Rodney Stuckey doesn't have much to prove to anyone in the NBA. Everyone in the league knows he's a fine young player, with a promising future. But you got the sense Friday, in his return to the Pistons, Stuckey had something to prove to himself. The Pistons lost, nothing new there, 106-102 in Indiana. But the larger story was Stuckey returning to action after collapsing to the court exactly two weeks ago in Cleveland. He returned with a purpose. Scoring a team-high 25 points in nearly 27 minutes -- he came off the bench, as coach John Kuester said he would -- he also contributed three assists and three steals and was the best Piston on the court. "I feel all right," Stuckey said afterward. "The plan wasn't to play all those minutes, but it was just in the heat of the game. I feel fine. "I've been working out. My wind felt fine. Everything was good."

It was a courageous effort by Stuckey, who passed every medical test administered to him, and brushed off suggestions he should sit out longer. "He had a couple of days to get rest," Kuester said. "He feels comfortable now. His energy was great tonight and I was very proud of him." Stuckey was the main highlight for the Pistons, but there were others. The Pistons, who have lost 11 of their last 13, played a dismal first half, trailed by 24 early in the third, then roared back. "Our guys in the second half played the way we're supposed to," Kuester said. "We defended and played hard."

Behind a lineup of Stuckey, Ben Gordon, Jason Maxiell, DuJuan Summers and Tayshaun Prince, the Pistons actually took a 95-94 lead with 2:45 remaining on a Summers' jumper. But Indiana's Earl Watson converted a layup on the other end, and Summers fouled Danny Granger (29 points) on a 3-point attempt. Summers made all three free throws, giving the Pacers a lead, 99-95, they wouldn't lose again. Ben Gordon scored 17 for the Pistons (23-46) and Summers had 12 points and four rebounds, along with some tough second-half defense on Granger. Richard Hamilton was held scoreless in more than 18 minutes (0-for-3 from the field). It was the first time he was held scoreless since November 2000.

Hoyas get the boot, Summers gets ribbed Pistons Basketball
The texts started coming at halftime of the Georgetown-Ohio first-round NCAA tournament matchup Thursday. The senders were asking Pistons rookie DaJuan Summers what was wrong with his beloved Hoyas. The Big East power was getting dominated by the Mid-American Conference tournament champ, and folks were letting Summers hear it. And when the Bobcats ran the Hoyas out of the tournament to earn the biggest upset of Day 1, the stream of texts turned into a torrent. "I've been hearing it from everybody," Summers said at the team's morning shoot-around Friday before the loss to the Pacers. "I don't even know what to say about it, man, I'm kind of speechless, honestly. "Ohio came out and played a good game. They were more prepared, it seemed like."

And the ribbing was pretty intense in the Conseco Fieldhouse locker room. Rip Hamilton asked Summers why he didn't return his phone call. Chucky Atkins, Charlie Villanueva and Ben Gordon added to Summers' miserable morning. Someone even said: "It wasn't even Ohio State, it was just Ohio." Summers admitted if the roles were reversed, he would be doing some squawking. "That's a given," he said. "If one of their teams lost, I'd do the same thing to them, but it's all in fun."

Watching the tournament did bring back memories as he thought of his days at Georgetown, where he left last season after his junior year. He admitted to missing March Madness."It's funny. When you're playing there, all you think about is getting here, but now that you're here, you always look back and see how you would play or what you could do if you were in that situation," Summers said. "It's good, but it's funny how life changes for you." There was one teammate who took it easy on Summers. Fellow rookie Austin Daye didn't want to say too much until he knew how his squad at Gonzaga fared Friday.

Rodney Stuckey leads Pistons with 25 in 1st game back
Rodney Stuckey is hoping after one more game he will be able to put the events of March 5 in the past. Friday night went a long way toward putting questions about his health in the background after he led the Pistons with 25 points in his first game back -- two weeks after he collapsed at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena and was carried from the floor on a stretcher wearing an oxygen mask during a loss to the Cavs. His evening didn't change the fortunes of the Pistons as they fell to the Pacers, 106-102 -- their 11th loss in 13 games.

After missing six games, Stuckey showed few signs of rust, and besides soreness from not playing, he felt fine afterward. "I feel all right," Stuckey said of his 26 minutes. "The plan wasn't to play all those minutes, but it was just in the heat of the game. "I feel fine, and my wind felt fine." Stuckey was Detroit's best player for most of the game as he was a major factor in the comeback from a 24-point deficit when the Pistons (23-46) took a 95-94 lead with 2:51 left.

But Stuckey faltered down the stretch, missing his last four shots. It was a case of coach John Kuester riding the hot hand of Stuckey and Ben Gordon (14 points in the fourth quarter). "Rodney made some things out of nothing and couldn't get the ball to drop in," Kuester said. "Some of those shots go in, some of them don't." The Pistons are tied with the Pacers for the fifth-worst record in the league. But Stuckey probably didn't care about that. He's just looking forward to getting what he hopes are the final questions about his health when the team goes to Cleveland -- the site of his collapse -- for Sunday's game.

Pacers 106, Pistons 102 -- notes and quotes
WHAT HAPPENED: The Pistons almost overcame a 24-point deficit but lost their 11th in 13 games. Rodney Stuckey (dizziness) returned after missing eight games and led the Pistons in scoring with 25 points. The Pistons took a 95-94 lead with 2:51 left on a DaJuan Summers 21-footer as they held the Pacers to 44 points in the second half. But Stuckey, who had played very well until the final moments, missed his final four shots. Ben Gordon scored 17 points, Tayshaun Prince had 11, and Jason Maxiell and Jonas Jerebko scored 10 each. Ben Wallace returned after missing eight games because of a knee injury and had seven rebounds and three steals.

The big number: 3 -- shots attempted by Rip Hamilton, who was held scoreless for the first time since his second season when he was with the Wizards in November 2000.

Quick hook: After 1:43 in the first half, Pistons coach John Kuester yanked rookie Austin Daye after a poor defensive sequence. Kuester and Daye exchanged words on the bench afterward. He never touched the floor again, and his removal led directly to Summers' performance.

Kings' Evans out one week with bruised jaw
X-rays on Saturday revealed that Tyreke Evans suffered only a bruised jaw line and will miss at least one week of action, according sources close to Evans and in the Kings' organization.

The fear was that the rookie may have missed the remainder of the season had the X-ray revealed any type of break. Evans also suffered a concussion, a lacerated, bruised lip and two cracked teeth.

He will not travel with the team this afternoon to Los Angeles for tomorrow's game against Clippers.

2,001: The Pistons went 2,001 games without a 20-assist game from one of their players until Will Bynum's 20 dimes this past Friday at home against Washington. The last Piston to reach that plateau was Isiah Thomas on April 12, 1985, at Joe Louis Arena, also against Washington. Replacing the ailing Rodney Stuckey in Detroit's lineup, Bynum became just the third player in the league to record at least 20 assists in a game this season, joining Phoenix's Steve Nash (who has done it twice) and New Orleans rookie Darren Collison.
