Hi, long time no see.
Back to reality. Splitter is a better prospect than Pekovic but i don't think the Spurs are willing to trade him for a price the Wolves agree, the rights of Peko & the bobcats or jazz pick might not be enough.
lol at your "back to reality" comment. 18 months ago Draft Express rated the overseas prospects:
# Player
1 Josh Childress F
26 years old, 6' 8" 205lbs.
Stanford
2 Tiago Splitter C
25 years old, 7' 0" 245lbs.
Caja Laboral Baskonia
3 Nikola Pekovic C
24 years old, 6' 11" 243lbs.
KK Partizan Belgrade
4 Serge Ibaka PF
20 years old, 6' 10" 220lbs.
Ricoh Manresa
5 Fran Vazquez PF/C
26 years old, 6' 10" 229lbs.
Regal FC Barcelona
They haven't upgraded them since we Drafted Rubio, and Pekovic was the 1st team all Euroleague center while Splitter was 2nd team all Euroleague.
http://www.euroleague.net/final-four/be ... /2768/itemIf you personally think Splitter is the better prospect, I'd love to hear why. What about his game makes him a better prospect than Pekovic. And if you say Defense, what does he do defensively that Pekovic doesn't? By all means, inform me of what "reality" is.
I would not put any faith at all into draftexpress ratings of players in Europe. Some of those rankings are so laughable that it's absolutely absurd. The overseas free agent ranking is an absolute comedy of epic proportions. Basically, those rankings are completely useless and totally stupid.
However, IMO Pekovic is indeed better than Splitter and I don't understand these comments like "better NBA prospect". I think people read nonsense like that on draftexpress or nbadraft and like to say it because they think it sounds cool. Well, it's stupid when those sites say it to begin with.
Pekovic is just a better player than Splitter, "better NBA prospect" does even make sense. And to illustrate this point, if this is how people are to judge players, then the Wolves should just forget about Splitter and Pekovic and maybe even Rubio and just sign Mavrokefalidis.
If things are just based on some perceived ceiling of a player. Because for sure Mavrokefalidis has a higher ceiling than any of those other guys do. The way the NBA and those websites rank European players is only maybe 30% based on how they actually perform. There is a very limited knowledge in the NBA about European players, even teams with their own draft picks. If I was the Wolves, as good as Pekovic is, I would go after Mavrokefalidis instead. Because he will be much cheaper, much easier to get, and he could be just as good or better in the right circumstance.
Then you could trade Pekovic's rights to another team and get something really nice in return (and yes I assure you that Pekovic has legit trade value as good or better than Splitter). But NBA teams can't figure out how to work things like this because they have no idea how good players in Europe are or are not. It's obvious with the Wolves because there is endless interest and talk about Rubio and Pekovic and not one mention about Mavrokefalidis who is arguably a more intriguing player than the other two.
