Draft Question

Post#1 » by alaskan34pac34 » Tue Mar 16, 2010 7:28 pm

I was looking at propects for the draft and watching some college games. As we are all laker fans we all know our biggest weakness is a pg. What about buying or trading for a late first for eric bledsoe pg from kentucky. He plays next to wall and this guy looks like a stud hes just beind one of the best college basketball players. Anyways just a guy to watch out for.

Good points...but with it looking like a weak draft, if he is available, some team will likely pick him before the Lakers pick in the second round.

Also, due to payroll considerations, I doubt the Lakers look to move up in the draft unless they are able to dump some salary - which is also unlikely.

I do not know who all will be available in FA, but perhaps the Lakers can go back to the future and try and find a starting PG like B - Shaw or Ron Harper.

Jimmer Fredette ... "shooter extraordinare"

I think he can actually run a team too ... no defense though.

You'd have to balance out his lack of speed with a couple of long armed defensive specialists ie. Artest, Mardy Collins, Tony Allen, Shannon Brown, Andre Iguodala, Kobe.

You'd also need FIsher back to take the kid under his wing.

I posted a question a few weeks ago in the Draft board... best defensive PGs in the draft, and then some of the knowledgeable posters narrowed down who might be avail in the mid 2nd.

-edit didn't Fridette drop 45 or 50 in the conference tourney final? dude can shoot.

He just dropped 37 in the NCAA Tournament first round

Saw the game, very impressive is this kid,can shoot the 3 ,penetrate and finish at the rim, shoot freethrows(90% )...I doubt he falls in the mid 40's(where our first second round pick will be) if he declares this year but if he does we MUST take him, this kid is a stud

^I'm not that high on him as you are ... I don't think NBA teams are either.

To me, Jimmer Fredette is attractive because, obviously, he can shoot really well, but also, he can grow to actually run a team as a facilitator and post feeder.

In this way he's a two trick pony to me.

(1) He can shoot and (2) he can run the offense as a real lead guard

That's it.

His liabilities have to be masked in order for him to have a lengthy and successful career.

His biggest weakness is his defense. For him and the team he plays for to be productive in the league he has to play with good, quick, super-long defenders for at least the first four or five years or so until he learns to make up for his lack of speed on defense with savvy ala Steve Kerr.

Jimmer Fredette will probabaly be available somewhere between 34 and 39.

The Lakers pick at 43 ... which means they'd have to move up a little.

Fredette is good but he aint a stud ... he's just a tad better, potentially, than your average specialist.

The names so of the ncaa followers tossed out were Kemba Walker, Avery Bradley, Malcolm Lee, Eric Bledsoe, as the best defenders but they would most likely be gone by LAs pick... if they come out.

Guys mentioned who should be around in the 40's are Jerome Dyson, Nolan Smith, Eliot Williams, and Armon Johnson - some of whom are combo G's or underclassmen.

Watching Bledsoe and Freddete now.. I've seen Bledsoe but he isn't realsitic for the Lakers. However I dig Freddette and he may be more accessible in the draft. Maybe he will go undrafted but I doubt that too. To good of a scorer and definately a diamond in the rough. His NBA potential comparison is said to be Mike Bibby.

Fredette just free jacks shots though, put him in a diciplined offense like the Lakers and he may struggle. He needs to go to a place with a free wheeling offense. Remember that Syracuse white pg/sg that played like him, tough and free, no where to be found, and he was an excellent college player as well. The LAL don't have a pick in the first round either, he's expected to be gone by the time the LAL pick anyway.

Here's what I don't get my favorite college player is Jon Schreyer, he leads the country in asst/to ratio, he's gone against every stud pg they've thrown at him, he'd be a brilliant pick up for the Lakes, but I'd think he'd be a first rounder, but I don't see him in a mock first or second round. He's a deadeye shooter, has great PG sense, great court awareness, leads the nation in ft shooting as well I believe, yet his teamate Kyle Singler is projected late first round and although he's a good player, Schreyer is far superior to me. It doesn't matter he'll fly up the boards cuz the Dukies are winning the tourney and he'll no longer be hidden. :(.

My goal in life is to find a stud hidden PG for the Lakes. No BS I guessed Mitchie's picks before the pick on Farmar & Crittenton.

Let's see we had our PG, in the 2009 NBA drat, Toney Douglas pick 29 LAL, and then traded him draft day for salary reasons...He's only killing it right now in NYC as he did with FSU when playing my DUKIES.

Peep his recent numbers, Chauncey Billips anyone?

I just don't think because of their position and salary issues the Laker staff recruits as much as other squads.
