The Chicago Blackhawks Win The Stanley Cup

Post#1 » by WEFFPIM » Tue Mar 9, 2010 8:16 pm

The regulars around here should be familiar with this, the n00bs should catch on quickly. I'll update this after every day as we head down the stretch to the playoffs. I'll delete a team from the standings when they are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Eastern Conference
1. p-Washington Capitals (121 PTS.)
2. y-New Jersey Devils (103 PTS.)
3. y-Buffalo Sabres (100 PTS.)
4. Pittsburgh Penguins (101 PTS.)
5. Ottawa Senators (94 PTS.)
6. Boston Bruins (91 PTS.)
7. Philadelphia Flyers (88 PTS.)
8. Montreal Canadiens (88 PTS.)

Western Conference
1. z-San Jose Sharks (113 PTS.)
2. y-Chicago Blackhawks (112 PTS.)
3. y-Vancouver Canucks (103 PTS.)
4. Phoenix Coyotes (107 PTS.)
5. Detroit Red Wings (102 PTS.)
6. Los Angeles Kings (101 PTS.)
7. Nashville Predators (100 PTS.)
8. Colorado Avalanche (95 PTS.)

* = Division Leaders
x = clinched playoff berth
y = Division Champion
z = Conference Champion
p = President's Trophy Winner

Phoenix is scary good, and would take a huge collapse for them to fall out. They might be the most sound defensive team in the league.

Every year there is a dog fight for the last playoff spot. This year is no different. Going to be a fun ending.

The race doesn't matter. The Pens are gonna win the Cup. Team is better then it was last year.

First playoff spot is clinched by Washington courtesy of Atlanta losing and Tampa Bay losing in overtime last night.

Calgary and Detroit stay 8 and 9 in the West. St. Louis creeps up to 10th. We're starting to see a bit of a gap in both conferences now. Top 8 in the East starting to pull away from the bottom 7, the top 9 in the West doing likewise to the bottom 6.

Still a long ways to go, but congrats to the Caps.

After that lose to the Blues, the Yotes are on a 4 game winning streak. :D

Edmonton mercifully eliminated from "playoff contention." Detroit and Calgary continue their tennis match for the final spot in the West.

For what we thought was gonna be a wild stretch run has been anything but so far. Detroit widens its lead on the 8th seed by beating Calgary. New Jersey is now two points behind the Penguins in the Atlantic. Rangers are a point back of Boston for the 8th slot in the East

Damn stupid Flamers won yesterday they are 1 point back of us. Good thing we play on Friday vs the Oilers and they face the Sharkies. Should widen our gap to 2 to 3 points again.

:lol: at the Leafs giving Boston a potential top 3 pick for Kessell. Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin are going to be stars in this league. Plus they have their 2nd round pick and then their 2011 first future looks very bright in Boston and not so much in Toronto

The Pens are the Devils b!tches. I'm amazing at how the Devils own the Pens. Side note, loved seeing Jersey's retro unis last night.

Lots of moving around tonight, let's start in the East:

-Penguins back atop the Atlantic, beating Boston 3-0 while New Jersey falls in a shootout in Toronto.
-Philly has jumped up two slots to 5th by beating Dallas. Montreal was off and Ottawa fell in Atlanta. Flyers and Sens tied in points, but Philly has a game in hand.
-Speaking of Atlanta, they're now the "last team out" since the Rangers lost to the Blues.
-Some minor shuffling in the bottom of the East between Florida and the Islanders, not much to really care about.

In the West:
-Blackhawks now atop the West by beating LA and San Jose falling in Vancouver thanks to head-to-head matchups. Canucks now five points back of the top two.
-Phoenix has won seven in a row, remain in fourth because of the NHL's idiotic division leader thing in the playoffs. Yotes now three points behind Pacific leader San Jose.
-St. Louis takes over the 10th spot by winning in MSG and Minnesota not showing up against Nashville, who are trying to make a late charge for the Central. The Blues are now 5 points back of 8th seed Detroit.

Light schedule Friday night but a potential playoff matchup out in Calgary between the Sharks and the Flames. Detroit's in Edmonton for what should be an easy win.

The Yotes are only 3 points behind first seed in the West. Going to be interesting the final 10 games and see how teams finish out the season.

By the way, this is how the 'Yotes tied the game with a minute to go in the 3rd period last night:

Given the time of the game and the spot the Panthers are in currently, this might be worse than Toskala's mental lapse:

I fell asleep when we were down 0-3 after 2rd period then woke up to find out we won in shootout. And when I saw that last goal I was like wow how in the world did he miss that puck. lol

Re: Race For The Stanley Cup Playoffs (DET, CGY in virtual tie)

Post#18 » by WEFFPIM » Sat Mar 20, 2010 5:40 am

Eyes were on the West tonight as both Detroit and Calgary were in action. Calgary beats San Jose (who has now lost 5 straight). Detroit gets a point in Edmonton, so the Wings and Flames each have 81 points. Detroit has a game in hand, so they have the 8th slot right now.

Anaheim moved up to 11th by beating the Islanders in OT.

A whopping eleven games on Saturday, with big games in Atlanta, Tampa, New Jersey, Phoenix and Vancouver among others. Pretty much everywhere you look you have a game with big implications since only two teams are out of the running. A lot can change tomorrow night. Should be fun.

What's the Blackhawks magic number to clinch the division? They have to be a win or two away.

First tiebreaker is wins, right?

So Nashville can finish with 107 points and 51 wins. Chicago is at 97 points and 45 wins. So if Chicago wins only five games the rest of the season with no overtime games in their losses Nashville would win the division. Five wins and an overtime game no matter the outcome will win the division.
