Re: Filling out the roster for next season
Powell and Benga are gone they wont be resigned Fisher is the only FA worth resigning outside of Brown who could opt out but i think its 50/50 he hasn't been as consistent since the all star break. Powell will likely be replaced by Gaffney who the Lakers liked last summer but didn't have room for this season. Elonu should be brought back with 2 or 3 other C's from the D league and the summer league to compete to replace Benga. The draft pick this year from the Grizzlies will likely be a SF. And the PG situation could go several routes the cheap route is signing Blake for half the MLE. The pricy route is going after Felton or Foye for the full MLE. There could be a trade route maybe if the Bulls get Johnson or Wade they will probably make HInrich available again. And finally the most unlikely route but has to be considered is if a certain team gets the top pick (Jazz) they may be willing to trade it and maybe the Lakers could send Bynum to Utah for the top pick. Interesting fact, 10 out of the current 14 lottery teams have the PG position locked down so Wall depending on how the lottery comes together may not be the top pick as alot of people believe.

There are a couple of other trade scenarios Sessions from the Timberwolves will probably be available I like him but it does make me nervous that a rookie beat him out of the starting PG spot. Also Harris could be available depending on what the Nets do but they may ask for alot to trade him.

Miller deserves more than the MLE, and Blake is worth the MLE. Not very realistic here. Might as well say just split the MLE with LeBron and Wade. Back to topic, for the MLE I'd either use it all up for Blake OR spit it for Critt/Redick. I still like J-Critt a lot and I think he's got some untapped potential, and Redick is actually a decent defender now. I'd also look to trade for Sessions, Mo Evans, Jarrett Jack, etc. As for Laker free agents, resign Brown to 3 mil per/3 years and resign DJ. Also resign Fish for the vet min, and drop everyone else.

I think both will get like 3-4 mil, so no it's probably not realistic to get both.

what about Beno Udrih? Plays well off the ball, can hit threes, doesn't play outside of the offense.

They would had traded Harris already if they know they are getting the #1 overall pick (John Wall), but the Nets are smart in not trading him because there is only a 25% chance they will end up with the #1 overall pick. As for Sessions we could of had him with a sign and trade deal last summer, but didn't go for it.

Have you forgotten who still owners the Kings the Maloofs which means we have no chance at Udrih because the Maloofs hate us.

Re: Filling out the roster for next season
I think if the Bulls can get Wade or Joe Johnson they probably will put Hinrich on the market again because it doesn't make much sense to have a bench player who is playing behind Rose and Wade or Johnson to be payed 17 million over the next 2 seasons. A trade that could work would be Farmar accepting the 1 yr qualifying offer and Sasha to the Bulls for HInrich. The Bulls would do this because their entire bench with the exception of James Johnson are FA's Farmar would be Rose's backup. Sasha would be insurance if Flip Murray leaves and also both Sasha and Farmar would be FA's in the 2011 summer saving the Bulls the 8 million they would owe Hinrich if he still is with them for 2011-2012 season.

I would love to get Foye, I think there are probably better options out there, but Foye is one of my favorite players.

If they didn't want Sasha before why would they want him now. If it wasn't for Sasha's contract Hinrich would be a Laker right now.

i think the Jazz still pretty PO'd about the Magic Johnson pick trade so I don't think they want to repeat that mistake.

To larry14r if the Bulls weren't able to trade Thomas and Salmons at the trade deadline they probably would have traded Hinrich to the Lakers because it still would have saved them some cash. The Bulls may also be willing to take Sasha in the sumer because he is an expiring contract next season and since almost their entire bench are FA's they'll need some depth.

Re: Filling out the roster for next season
Mike Miller for the MLE would be ideal in my opinion.
He can come off the bench and instantly give us stability at the 2 and 3, he'd be the perfect backup for both Ron and Kobe. He can hit the three, play D, and would add to our grit and toughness (clearly lacking).
The spot I'm stuck at is PG, we obviously have to make a move over the off-season because Fish needs to move to the bench for next year.
PG: ?/Fisher
SG: Kobe/Shannon/Sasha
SF: Artest/Miller/Walton
PF: Pau/Lamar
C: Bynum/DJ
Our bench would primarily be Fish/Miller/LO as opposed to Farmar/Shannon/LO.

Re: Filling out the roster for next season
First of all I really really hate to think about next season when we still have a ring to win which is the reason why I tried to avoid this thread as much as possible.
However Shannon Brown is not and will never be a PG. His handles are too weak to do it on a consistent basis and even his game play has regressed to the level that you can understand why he roamed around the league before coming here even with all athleticism. His ball stalling on offense and ill advised shots are half the reason the second unit struggles most of the time. Now he's even starting to do that while playing next to the starters.
If he sticks around for what he's making right now, good. Else, good riddance and good luck getting paid like Ariza. I'd be more encouraged paying that money for Farmar, knowing what I do now which isn't saying a lot. I'd much rather have Sasha be our starting PG.
There are other options if we do wish to spend the MLE and if we win a 2nd consecutive championship, we will have our choice of veteran role players to pick from.
