Is this team officially becoming "Amare's team"?

Post#1 » by MarJJMar » Tue Mar 23, 2010 5:14 am

Over the last 2 months there can be no doubt. Amare has been 100%, playing like he has before when he was healthy while Nash has been crap the last 2 months.

We better give him the max or we will look really bad since Amare will most likely keep this up for the rest and throughout the playoffs.

Good point. Before I never thought Amare was a max player, but since this resent emergence of dominant play and, yes, defense he puts us in a difficult situation on whether we gamble on keeping this up next year and giving him the max, or not giving him the max and him leaving.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

This team will always remain Nash's team. Much rather it be Amare's team though.

It always has been since 2002-03 yet Sarver has no problem paying Nash and Hill a combined 15M yet he doesn't want to hand over an extra 5M to Amare...

If he keeps this up some team will give him a Max contract. Sarver won't pay anyone 19+ mil a year though. BTW i'm still searching youtube...

It seems to be heading that way. Not that its a bad thing, Amare is tearing it up at the moment, and teams don't seem to have an answer for his offensive power. I wouldn't say officially, but he is on his way.

Not until we resign him. I would support riots if we don't.

If you look at the salary structure of this team, it's JRich and LB's salaries that are more of a problem than Amare's potential max. Stephen Jackson for less than JR's and Battier for the same as LB's, we'd be a serious contender for several years.

Me too. I would retire on this forum and stop watching the Suns for a while if that happened.

Well if anyone was unsure before, tonght's "Operation: Feed The Beast" was a smashing success. I was about to give up hope on Amare less than two months ago, but he has truly convinced me he simply needed ample time to fully heal from his eyeball nearly falling out. You can even tell the swelling around his eyes has diminished greatly.

Like ive been saying for weeks, if he keeps this up in the post season, sarver will pay him. If not, im sure he has enough bean counters in his employ to tell him how many millions in worldwide revenue losing him will cost, let alone solidifying his rep as too cheap to play with the big boys.

He has been trying to get flexibility since he bought the team, this summer is not a good time to continue that trend.

for the future sake maybe sarver and the crew needs to realize that this is amare team now. continuing on labeling this team as Nash is just reckless because Nash is not as good as he use to be and he can be in this team in the long term past his 2 yr extension. I like seeing amare dominate and it upon himself to dominate because he is going to be the man now. As good as Nash was the best we could do was a WCF. Amare needs to be the guy and give him the chance to prove it. I know he has had 7 yrs but for the sake of the future the suns got to at least surrender to amare and allow the team to be his and figure things out after that. the will always ask what might have been if they do not let amare be the man on this team. If amare is not the man and fails then its easier to move on.

Heat will no doubt offer him that 5 year 90 Million dollar contract now.

I think he is playing for a MAX from another team.

But it all depends on how much Sarver is willing to spend on free agency.. which is the down side.

Still I think Suns need to cash in for the future, its the only way.

LMAO @ Nash being "crap" for the last two months.

This is the Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire show. It has been for a while now.

Amare is truly amazing. This guy is working his butt off lately and putting in the efford and it shows. I hope he signs an extension with us because I'm going to be devastated if he ends up leaving after this season.

I like to think of it like a circus act, Nash is the tamer and Amare is the lion. With a lion to tame, nobody will come to watch the circus. Without a tamer, it'll just be a zoo.

Amare's the best player on the team right now, but it's still officially "Nash's team" for now.
He will get "his" team next year if he stays in PHX or goes to Chicago/New York. I really hope he'll get his extension and if he does the Suns will likely make him the franchise player, but if he leaves I'd like to see him go to Chicago. If the Bulls just add a sharpshooting SG along with Amare, that'd give him a roster that complements him really well and lets him be on his own dominant team for several years.

+1

Unlike Miami, most of the complementary pieces are there already. I've talked before about how Chicago would be a better fit for Amare since they've got the perfect big man to play next to Amare, in Noah. Noah would do all the dirty work, guard the best players and grab every rebound, while not demanding touches. If Noah can add a money mid-range shot ala KT, that front court duo would be ridiculously good. Rose would also get Amare easy buckets and one of the reasons why Rose's assist stats right now aren't where people expect it to be is because they don't have a reliable post player that can get them easy buckets. Throw Amare into the mix and Rose's assists would go up probably another 2-3apg. If they had another scoring wing who can get off his own shot, they could be a serious contender.

It seems it will be all about the benjamins, because actually out of the teams with cap space I'd argue we can offer him the best supporting cast. Derrick Rose is young I know, but that is a double edged sword because once he's off his rookie contract you're gonna have 2 players eating up a lot of your cap space. Noah should command some money as well. So basically I think that unless he gets a better offer dollar-wise, he has no real incentive to leave (he also doesn't seem to care much about market size).

I dunno if Amare is a leader still. He's getting better.

One thing I do know is Amare won the game for us yesterday, while Nash tried his best to lose it for us. This is not, however, a regular occurrence.
