LB Landon Johnson signs with Lions
Landon Johnson has agreed to a one-year contract with the Lions, his agent, Andy Simms, posted on his Twitter account today.
Johnson, 29, visited Lions headquarters Wednesday. He spent the last two seasons playing mostly special teams for the Panthers under Danny Crossman, who is now the Lions’ special teams coach. The 6-foot-2, 232-pounder was a starter the previous four years for the Bengals

Good pickup. At worst, he's a good special teamer.

Our special teams sucked last year big time,It seems the lions are bringing in more players that play their position and also play very welll on special teams.Like a two way player.Lions look like they know what their doing finally.

Hmm, that's odd. The last 20 players or so that the Lions picked up that I didn't like, when I explained how those moves were stupid at the time and no GM should ever have made any of those moves, people kept explaining how they would make our locker room better and our ST better. Anyhow, I still say the Lions continue to do everything wrong, and everybody will continue telling me that I'm crazy and that the Lions know what they are doing. As far as players playing out of position, well Gunther was hardcore responsible for that last year. He failed in every way that a coach can fail. We didn't win games, AND he didn't properly teach or instruct his players or manage them. All he gave us was a complete lack of teaching, instruction, management, accountability, and ultimately execution.

Lions are awarded Mr. Irrelevant again

ORLANDO - The compensatory picks are in and the Detroit Lions, once again, have been rewarded with the final pick in the draft - Mr. Irrelevant.
Compensatory picks are awarded to clubs who lost more free agents than they sign, but the Lions didn't do anything to deserve the extra draft pick. The league handed out 30 compensatory picks based on merit and then simply added two more to equal the number of NFL clubs. Because those picks are based on the current draft order, the St. Louis Rams got the 254th pick while the Lions got the final pick (255th).
The Lions had the final pick in the 2007 draft and selected Alabama cornerback Ramzee Robinson who, after celebrating his Mr. Irrelevant status, actually stuck around for a couple of years in Detroit.
Just as a point of order, compensatory picks cannot be traded

So we just got the one pick then I assume? It doesn't really say. But that's good news, that's a fun pick to have!
I predict it will be a RB/WR most likely, and dark horse candidates will be QB/P/TE. And I further predict that my prediction will be wrong when the Lions take a DB.

Maybe it'll be QB Juice Williams from Illinois and we can run the Wildcat with him.

Plausible. I haven't really watched Juice play, but from what I've been hearing, he's a pretty good shot to not get drafted.
EDIT: I just found this funny note on Juice from Walter Football. Look at the first note from '08 how he will unquestionably be an NFLer, and then look how the comments fade from there. Pretty interesting to follow the mood change.

2007, he was awesome; 2008, he was adequate; 2009, he sucked.

Not exactly an inspiring career arc

Re: LB Landon Johnson signs with Lions
I remember that Ramzee was also a cook at the Red Robin on Ford Rd near Southfield freeway. I imagine he got hassled by co-workers a lot.
Should be fun for all the random attention he (whoever they end up with at 255) and the Lions will get again. There is a whole event for the player as well. http://www.irrelevantweek.com/

If i was his coworker I wouldn't hassle him. I'd ask him for his autograph near the end of his first shift.

I take it he's not a cook there anymore?

Re: LB Landon Johnson signs with Lions
I think it was only for like the first year. I remember reading an article about it. I'm not saying all his co-workers gave him ****, but you've got to figure there was at least some good natured hassle.
