Pistons hope for positive finish
The end can't come fast enough. Here are the Pistons, 12 games left, out of the playoffs, and having lost five consecutive games and 12 of 14. Many players on the roster aren't accustomed to missing the playoffs. They're not accustomed to mailing it in, either.

Indiana Pacers (24-46) at Detroit Pistons (23-47), 7:30 p.m.
Bottom feeders in the Central Division get together Tuesday night at The Palace of Auburn Hills, where the Detroit Pistons hope to snap a five-game losing streak versus the Indiana Pacers. Detroit dropped its fifth straight game and 12th in 14 tries following Sunday's 104-79 setback at Cleveland. Jason Maxiell had team-highs of 16 points and nine rebounds for the Pistons, who got 11 points off the bench from Charlie Villanueva. For the first time since the 1979-80 season, Cleveland swept the season series with the Pistons (4-0). "They (Cavs) were the aggressors, let's put it that way. In the second half, they went at us real hard in the third period. The aggressive team is the team that is going to win a basketball game, and they were the aggressors at the end," said Pistons coach John Kuester.
Maxiell is averaging 12.6 points and 10.3 rebounds in his last seven games, while Tayshaun Prince had only nine points in defeat. Prince is averaging 14.6 points per game this month. Center Ben Wallace is questionable for Tuesday's game with sore knees.
Indiana has won two straight and three of four games, but will try to put the brakes on a nine-game road slide Tuesday at the Pistons. The Pacers are coming off Sunday's 121-101 home victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, as Danny Granger poured in 32 points in a losing effort. Troy Murphy added 22 points and 13 rebounds, while Roy Hibbert posted 20 points and eight boards for the Pacers, who have won five straight at home. "We did a lot of very, very good things," Pacers head coach Jim O'Brien said. "We're playing solid right now. I think our movement and passing have been really good of late." Detroit is 0-3 against the Pacers this season and has never been swept in this series. Indiana is unbeaten in the last five matchups with the Pistons, who are 5-1 in the previous six meetings as the host.

Pistons vs Pacers matchup
Detroit takes on the surging Indiana Pacers. Indiana has won 2 in a row, including a win against the Pistons at home on Friday 106-102. Indiana also managed to beat the Thunder on Sunday 121-101. Indiana is 3-0 against the Pistons this season and have won 5 straight in their matchups. Looking at their last game, Detroit managed to do a lot against the Pacers. They out rebounded the Pacers, had great bench support, as well as too better care of the ball with a 13-9 assist to turnover ratio. In the end it came down to better shooting by Indiana. They were up 21 in the 1st half and continued to pour it on. This trend continued against Cleveland as they shot 41% for the game, compared to 49% from the Cavs. Detroit also has shot poorly from the free throw line.
To win against Indiana, they’re going to need to stop Danny Granger. When he’s playing well the rest of the team usually plays well. They’ve also got a good supporting cast for Granger. Roy Hibbert continues to impress, and Troy Murphy has played well recently. The streaky Brandon Rush, and the facilitator Earl Watson round out the starters for Indy. Their bench is also playing well and led by Mike Dunleavy and Dahntay Jones.
Will Bynum continues to start for the recovering Rodney Stuckey, and will probably continue the rest of the season. Stuckey gives the Detroit bench some much needed consistency. Detroit may have problems with the Jason Maxiell – Roy Hibbert matchup as Maxiell is quite undersized and will be giving up some decent height to Hibbert. If Jerebko has to help double down low it could be trouble as Murphy can hit the 3. Stopping Granger will be Tayshaun’s job. He’s very capable but its dependent on his health. I look for Detroit to snap these losing skids against the Pacers tonight. Detroit 105 Indiana 98

After trading him, Wolves re-sign Cardinal
The Minnesota Timberwolves have brought back veteran forward Brian Cardinal.
Cardinal signed with the Wolves on Tuesday. He was traded to New York last month for center Darko Milicic (MILL'-uh-chich), but the Knicks waived Cardinal after the deal to make him a free agent.
The 6-foot-8 Cardinal played in 27 games for Minnesota before the trade. He averaged only 1.7 points and 9.0 minutes per game, but he has been a popular teammate for the rebuilding Timberwolves. They first acquired Cardinal in a draft-day deal with Memphis in 2008 that sent O.J. Mayo to the Grizzlies and brought Kevin Love to Minnesota. Cardinal is a 10-year veteran.

Detroit Pistons Draft Dreams: Wesley Johnson
The NCAA tournament produces a fast riser up draft boards virtually every year, and this season, Wesley Johnson might be the guy who vaults himself into the Evan Turner/John Wall conversation at the top of the draft. In two tournament wins for the Orange, the junior transfer from Iowa State is averaging 25 points and 10 rebounds per game. He's lanky, he can shoot, he can rebound and he's a little Turner-esque in his ability to rebound really well for a guy whose primary position is on the wing.
Measurables: 6-7, 205 pounds, junior F at Syracuse.
Stats: 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 2.3 assists, 50 percent field goal percentage, 41 percent three point percentage in 34.8 minutes per game.
Projected: 8th (DraftExpress); 3rd (NBADraft.net).
Why he fits: With the Pistons loaded on the perimeter, there's not necessarily a spot for him. But what if he's the best player on the board? He's possibly better than any small forward on the current roster, and while he's not a great ball-handler, he potentially can become a Kevin Durant-like scorer, constantly getting his own shot without needing to put the ball on the floor often to do it.
Why he doesn't fit: It would crowd an already crowded position even more and wouldn't address the holes up front. Johnson doesn't always create off the dribble well and his passing could use work. He's obviously a very good player, but it's unclear how he'd fit in the halfcourt, slow-paced system the Pistons insist on running.
Why I'd draft him: Johnson has all the tools to be a great NBA player. He's improved drastically, particularly as a shooter, after sitting out last season because of his transfer. The Pistons simply need talent, and Johnson is an undeniable talent. If he's on the board when the Pistons pick, he's worth considering.

Ex-Spartan Mateen Cleaves arrested on drunk driving suspicion
Former Michigan State basketball star Mateen Cleaves has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.
Cleaves was a captain for Michigan State's 2000 NCAA championship team. The Pistons drafted him in 2000 with the 14th pick overall. He also played for Sacramento, Cleveland and Seattle over six NBA seasons. He recently joined Fox Sports Detroit as a Pistons analyst.
The Genesee County sheriff's department says Cleaves was arrested Saturday in Mount Morris Township and jailed in nearby Flint, then released. Cleaves' lawyer, Frank Manley, told the Flint Journal his client drove because of an emergency involving his son and doesn't promote "any driving that's not considered safe."

The Pistons vs The Pacers
The 23-47 Pistons will host the 24-46 Indiana Pacers tonight at the Palace of Auburn Hills. If Indiana pulls out the win tonight, the Pacers will complete the season sweep of Detroit. “The Pistons have never gone winless against Indiana since the Pacers joined the NBA in 1976. Surprisingly, the last time the Pistons had only one win over Indiana was the 2003-04 championship season.” Via Pistons.com
Looks like no Ben Wallace again…can we get some Summers Daye time? Get the Flash Player to see this content. As an extra bonus to tonight’s game, FSN’s broadcast is interactive tonight. “Post your questions for George Blaha, Greg Kelser, Eli Zaret, John Keating and Mickey York, and they will answer the best ones on the air during Tuesday’s Pistons-Pacers telecast (7 p.m. on FOX Sports Detroit).” Me, I’m going to bombard Mr. Blaha with comment about how awesome we think he is. You might want to ask Ryan Fields how much hair gel he uses for each broadcast, that’s your call. Go interactive with FSDetroit Live at 7 PM
Tip is at 7:30 pm EST and will be broadcast on FS Detroit with the radio broadcast over at 97.1 The Ticket or follow the action online over at NBA.com.

Former Michigan State basketball star and Detroit Pistons player Mateen Cleaves has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

He also played for Sacramento, Cleveland and Seattle over six NBA seasons. He recently joined Fox Sports Detroit as a Pistons analyst, but he will not be on the air for tonight's Pistons-Pacers game nor have his scheduled Web chat afterward. His role with FSD is being reevaluated, according to network spokesman Tim Bryant. He has worked two Pistons games for FSD (March 12 vs. Washington and Sunday vs. Cleveland).
The Genesee County sheriff’s department says Cleaves was arrested Saturday in Mt. Morris Township and jailed in nearby Flint, then released. Cleaves’ lawyer Frank Manley told the Flint Journal his client drove because of an emergency involving his son and doesn’t promote “any driving that’s not considered safe.” He says Cleaves knows he’s a role model and hopes people reserve judgment until more facts come out.

USF's Jones submits name to NBA Draft
USF junior guard Dominique Jones has submitted a letter to the NBA expressing his interest in entering the NBA Draft. Jones plans to work out for NBA officials next month and then decide by May 8 whether to leave school for the NBA or return to USF.
According to a new NCAA rule, underclassmen who want to maintain their eligibility must pull their name out of the NBA draft by 5 p.m. on May 8. In the past, they could wait until June 15 without penalty. "I am supportive of Dominique and his decision to submit his name into the NBA Draft," USF coach Stan Heath said in a statement. "I will assist him in gathering information about his NBA status and help Dominique make the best decision in regards to his future."
Jones said last week that he has not made a decision on going to the NBA, but that he would "likely test the waters" to determine his draft status. Jones cannot sign with an agent if he plans to return to school.
