What do you think. Took me about two hours, couldn't decide on the right shade of gold but I definitely wanted black and gold.

Like the name and the logo, but I don't want to change our colors now because I love our uniforms. Not a big fan of the gold anyway. Prefer blue, orange, and white.

i am casually reading it, only 85 pages in (its a huge book). and so far its awesome. my two bball junkie friends in charlotte forced me to buy it. even if you arent a simmons fan i think any nba fan should read it. its like someone did a 700 page grad school thesis on the history of the nba. kudos to simmons.

I skimmed over it at a store once. Found the part on the Suns, where he talks about how they would save all their money by selling 1st round picks but then make bad free moves. Talking about getting Quentin Richardson and Marcus Banks, but giving up Luol Deng and Rajon Rondo.

It made a whole lot of sense.

I work too much. I work enough actually, I really just work only on Bobcat game nights. It sucks because I have to watch Highlights so I never really get to see the guys live. I miss the ole days. Damn the man. I'll elbow my managers to get Playoff games off so I can see them go to the Finals this year. :D

Thanks for the history lesson Fats....... I had zero idea..

I knew there was a reason why I liked Charlotte, every time I see the crown I see two people going for it.... Problem is I've now stopped seeing the crown....

I didn't mean to offend anyone if people take my 'crown humping' the wrong way.

Funny how sicko Australian brains sometime think

i dont believe you offended anyone... 75% of the regulars from this board arent from charlotte and of the ones that are from charlotte, only a few are probably born and raised in charlotte, like myself.

charlotte was named after this chick

she was a real looker

My history is really really lacking in relation to Charlotte..... After some research, I now understand where the 'Hornets' reference came from, along with the title of The Queen City.

I find it incredible that Charlotte only has 690,000 odd people residing in the city limits and supports a NBA franchise which is a multi million dollar type of business, whilst a city like Sydney has a urban population of over three and a half million and they can barely get 4,000 people to a basketball game in a league with a salary cap of around $1.4 million. I guess Sydney also has a professional AFL side, nine professional NRL (rugby league) sides, a professional A-league soccer team and a professional Super 14 Union side. Im guessing that the payroll of all these teams would be comparable to the payroll of the Bobcats.

Sydney Swans = $8 million (50 players)
NRL teams (9 teams x $4.1 mill salary cap over 25 players per team = 225 players) = $36.9 million
A League = $2.1 million - with two 'marquee' players which don't count towards the cap
NSW Waratahs (union) = can't find a number but would be around $4 mill.
NBL - Sydney Kings = 1.4 million

Bobcats = $57.7 million
Panthers = ??

How does a city with 680,000+ population sustain a NBA and NFL team??

The salary cap for AFL teams is nearly $8 million a club. Individual blokes in the NBA are getting paid more than what is being shared around 50 blokes from one club. 16 teams running around is a total of $128 million a year. Most AFL teams have a playing list of 40, plus an addition 10 rookies, and the average wage is $200k. A very very few get in excess of $750k. The Mavericks have $86 mill on the books with only 15 players..

I can see why the owners are getting jack of it........

Difference is WDS - as you know - AFL teams are owned by the people, by anyone who can afford a membership as opposed to NBA teams that are owned by "the man".

Sure there is sponsorship dollars, but not the fortune 500 type companies that US sport has. Plus sports like AFL don't have the global exposure that sports like the NBA and NFL have and that much exposure means big time advertising dollars plus merchandising dollars.

Because of all of that, they have more $$$$ to spend on their star attractions. The players.

In saying that the AFL gets an average of around 70,000 to their games each and every time (8 games a week, 22 weeks a year) plus the finals series - where the attendance climbs even more.

The other way I think about it.... The 6 year contract extension KG get back with the Wolves for $126 million would basically support every single AFL player for one year.

The AFL is currently the fourth-most attended professional sports league in the world in terms of attendance per match, with an average attendance of over 38,000. The biggest 'non-final' game last year pulled in over 86,000 people, just to see a regular season game. If the GF doesn't pull over 95,000 people it's considered a dud event. The 'big' games (Collingwood/Essendon/Carlton) all pulled over 80,000 people.

I guess worldwide, billions of people know who Kevin Garnett is, whilst there would be only a few million who know who Buddy Franklin or Garry Ablett Jr is...
