Something finally end up working out for the Wizards
Just to be clear, the deal hasn't closed yet. There's an agreement on financial terms, but there's still all the non-financial stuff that needs working out. I don't think a June 1 closing is a sure thing.

Even if the deal is not wrapped-up by June 1, I don't think that Ernie would make any moves w/o consulting Ted first.

The truth just got cleaned up yesterday.
Besides, not sure this is the time to put more gas on the fire. EG staying low key is the smart move.
Gil going to trial
Just getting over some bad press with Flip and Dray.
Season wrapping up.
Ownership in transition but some good new about the price being settled.
How would EG publicly slapping down Flip help in that environment ? Dray and Flip worked it out. I'm sure EG was involved in that process.
A win tonight would help a lot. Regardless, the Flip issue like the Dray issue should be handled by EG behind closed doors. My guess, we don't see anymore Flip flip outs this year. I expect Flip to have a different tone after todays game. I have little doubt EG told him to stop that non-sense.
I didn't want Flip dealing with Dray via the media and I sure as hell don't want EG dealing with Flip that way. Flip would be smart to apologize at the level that Dray did. Just admit that he was wrong and could have and should have handed the situation better.
If both men do this, the issue will be gone and both better for handling it properly. Even if it was not handled well to begin with.

I hope this is true, I just wish that Ernie had done it after Flips first media outburst.

Re: Official Countdown to EG ?
Abe Pollin hired the Caps' GM McPhee, not Leonsis. So don't be surprised if Leonsis keeps Grunfeld. Actually, I would bet on it that EG is retained.

Hmmm, no discussion of Ernie sticking around by this Post reporter.
STARTING OVER
Any favorites to take over the Wizards front office? It sounds like (former Jayhawk) Kevin Pritchard could be out in Portland over more of a personality conflict than for basketball-related reasons. He's done a great job of turning around a pretty miserable team.

TRACEE HAMILTON WRITES:
I don't have any favorites but I love Kevin Pritchard and I think he's done a great job in Portland. There is already a Jayhawk in the front office, Milt Newton; not sure if he'll stay or go. I don't have an answer to this year; I'm sure some candidates will emerge down the road. They've gotta clear out the current batch first.

Re: Official Countdown to EG ?
Grunfeld said that he has not spoken with prospective new owner Ted Leonsis because he still answers to the Pollin family. But when asked if he was confident that Leonsis would allow him to complete the next reclamation project, Grunfeld sounded hopeful.
"I think I'm pretty good at what I do. I have a pretty good track record and we'll see when new ownership takes over what happens," Grunfeld said. "I think we've done a pretty good job here and if you look at the other places I've been, I've rebuilt several teams, many times over. So I'm confident in my abilities. It's a good challenge and I'm looking forward to it."

Oops, missed this post of the quote before I put it in the Ted Leonsis thread. Pretty ballsy of a guy to tout his great track record of rebuilding teams to keep his job on a team where he just finished dismantling his own failed creation.closg00 wrote:Grunfeld said that he has not spoken with prospective new owner Ted Leonsis because he still answers to the Pollin family. Public begging.
If that putrid Dallas trade isn't enough of an indictment on why not to trust this man on a rebuild, the horrid culture that this man oversaw as president of basketball operations should be the final nail in his coffin.

I don't know, "if you look at the other places I've been, I've rebuilt several teams, many times over," speaks to his past experience at rebuilding teams he messed up. It's the same argument the bankers used to keep their jobs and bonuses: "Who else but me could possibly understand this mess I made?"

Yeah, I find it particularly irritating that EG talks glowingly about himself at this point - Has he ever taken responsibility for his poor performance?

OK, loosing GEE is the last straw.
Everyone has their tipping point. While loosing Gee isn't the end of the world, it is just a tipping point for me. How do you blow something so simple. This guy would cost you peanuts. He can hit out to the 3 range. He can jump out of the gym. He has a strong body. He was fearless. And you currently dont have enough players to field a team.
Ted, please get busy buying the team and finding a new GM so we are ready to rebuild properly.

Re: Gee, Ernie just doesn't get-it. With the cap-figures declining next-year, the other GM's are looking to lock-up good bench/role-players CHEAPLY. GS, Houston, the Spurs and others are all doing it. The Spurs even when they don't have guys under contract, are always monitoring former and current 2nd rounders here and abroad. Ernie always waits for a crisis then says he'll "look around". I hope Teds peeps are paying attention to this crap.

Can anyone explain why it is that certain people are more than ready to ship out Arenas for making a mistake that had nothing to do with basketball, but yet our GM has repeatedly made mistakes that directly effect the present and future of the team and those same people are willing to stand behind the man no matter what? I cannot understand this at all. Is it that some how 29ppg/6apg is easier to come by than a competent GM? I find that hard to believe as well. There are WAY more competent GM's out there than there are 30PPG scorers.

Are there really 'people' who are willing to stand behind Ernie in the present tense? At this point, I think it's more like 'person'.

Guys, it's time for some grass-roots activism, an up-rising amongst the fans has to start happening or we are at-risk of Ernie being in-charge on draft night.

I'd take 30PPG Elgin Baylor over GM Elgin Baylor any day.
Stop comparing Arenas to a competent general manager. Compare him to EG, and leave competent general managers out of this.

At a min, people should put comments on the WP articles. More eyes need to see our displeasure.

I only hope we get the top pick so he doesn't have to use his GM "skills". anything lower and he might trade the pick to save himself the trouble of due diligence.
