"Not only did we send someone down there to work[Pacman] out, but also someone to spend some time with him," Schwartz said. "I wouldn't say anything's imminent, but we're definitely interested and gathering information."

Good move? Will he be trouble in the locker room?

He wants/needs a second chance. Its not going to be without risk, but it should be at least interesting.

Basically...hes 26, has a posistive history with the Lions Head Coach, and the Lions secondary needs all the help it can get.

He's never been trouble in the locker room. Find me one link where he was a cancer to the team on the field / in the locker room.

At worst, he isn't as talented as he used to be but we still upgraded on ST... at best, he becomes our #1 CB.

He worked out well, has never been a bad teammate, and has a good relationship with Schwartz. I'm not totally sold on him (he's been out of the NFL for awhile), but it's hardly the horrible move people are making it out to be.

Michael Vick is back in the NFL, Ray Lewis too.... Pacman didn't do anything close to what they did. Why is he not worth the second chance they got? Give him a short ungauranteed contract. Let him prove his worth. He messes up and they can cut him. But if he works out... that only helps us.

A report surfaced this morning that free agent cornerback Pacman Jones had"agreed to terms''with the Detroit Lions and would join the team next week.

However, according to a source close to the situation, the team has not reached any agreement with Jones. Another source called it "way off base.''

At the recent NFL owners meetings, Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said a Jones signing was not "imminent.''

I dont want him

When you cant play because you are suspended for ridiculous things, like making it rain at a strip club and having your posse paralyze guards, you are a bad teammate. Sorry but true. When you have so many arrests, convictions and legal problems that it would take multiple paragraphs here to scratch the surface, you are a bad teammate. You make the team and the city look bad.

I want 0 part of this idiot. He has been nothing but a disaster everywhere he has been.

I would normally completely agree with you. But you can't ignore any possible option when you have been as bad as the Lions have.

The Lions will most likely be able to sign him to some minimal 1 year deal and he'll be on his best behavior (possible) so he doesn't wind up in the AAFL (this season will be their 2nd or 3rd attempt at a 1st year) or the CFL.

Honestly, first bad move hes gone. I can't honestly see them hanging onto him just for the sake of doing so. If Millen was still in charge sure, but I can't imagine it happening now.

Please... he got into a fight at a strip club when a club promoter tried to steal almost $100,000 cash and expensive jewelry from not only Pacman but from Nelly. After everything settled down, someone came to the club and started shooting. Pacman was not there, and was never charged for any involvment with the shooting. He was charged with a conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct for the fight. He was given probation and community service.

Let's get this straight, Pacman was never convicted of a felony. He never served prison time. He never violated league rules besides "personal misconduct". Basically, they suspended him because they didn't like what he was doing but they had no real reason to do so.

Ray Lewis killed a man.
Michael Vick had a dog fighting ring.
Donte Stallworth killed a man.
Ben Roethlisberger is now charged with multiple counts of sexual assualt.
Tank Johnson has had 3 charges of illegal possession of firearms, battery, and assault.

And please, let's not get into the players who've been arrested for DUIs, like Jared Allen, Antonio Bryant, etc... because that list is way too long.

Yet, all of these guys are currently in the NFL.... Only a couple of them have been punished... none were punished by the league, before being convicted.

Different strokes for different folks i guess. His long history of making boneheaded decisions is enough for me to pass. I will say im slightly surprised with how hard you are defending the guy, but thats your deal. Not too mention your version of the Las Vegas shooting is different that other accounts i have heard.

w/e thoguh, i doubt we get him so no biggee

I also wanted Stallworth when the Lions brought him in and I was glad Vick got another shot in the NFL. I believe in second chances, especially to people who have been unfairly critized and bad mouthed.

As a Lions fan, I'm all about bringing in talented player. If we do sign him, I have no doubt that the team (and Schwartz) will put requirements on him and hold him accountable for anything he does. If they don't sign, it really doesn't matter. But IMO, he deserves another chance... He's a young talent player who like you said, did some boneheaded things, but he's not a criminal, he's not a threat to anyone, and no, he's not a bad lockerroom presence or teammate.

We have little shot of filling out our whole CB roster with all good players or prospects, thus we have nothing to lose. If there's any decent chance that Pacman looks like he's in shape to be a good player then Mayhew needs to get him and we should modestly expect to lose that gamble, but a gamble nonetheless that we have to take. I don't think he deserves a chance, but that's not enough for me to not give him one. If this was about personal ego or principles then I wouldn't touch him. But it's not for me. I'd gladly sell out my personal moral and ethical conveniences in exchange for wins for the team.
