What a story of redemption it will be if he gets suspended, we trade Jamison and Caron for some new pieces, resign Miller and Haywood. Next year Haywood, Blatche, ?, Miller, Arenas. Hey one can hope right?

After the press release issued by the Wizards today, I think there is no chance that Arenas will play again in a Wizards uniform.

I still think with Gilbert you can have a good team if you build the right supporting cast. But if you take away your best player suddenly you become a team thats looking for a good supporting cast AND a franchise player. I just anticipate us falling back to the Wizards of old, ie, pre-Gilbert.

In thinking about it, this is my fear as well. All things being equal, I'd be happy trading him away, as Gil just doesn't seem to be dedicated in any real sense that you need your star to be. But that said, without a star, we'd be a sucky and boring team until either the ping pong balls bounced our way.

I was all in favor of voiding the contract earlier. Now I think at a minimum we need to get his value back up. He might even come back a new dedicated Gil - that would be the best outcome.

I would like nothing better than Gilbert to come back and resurrect his career here. We are not going to be able to trade or void his contract so if you root for the Wizards you have to root for Gilbert. He is by far my favorite personality in pro sports. Now if we had just taken advantage of being crap the last two seasons and had the draft picks to work with. I wasn Arenas to be a Wizard and I want him to prove that he is a leader.

I'm coming around to this position as well. There's always the chance that he doesn't come back reformed, but I'm making the decision to be hopeful because that's what's best for the team.

Whether he comes back menally reformed or not he's still a guy who I want around dropping over 20 a night with 7 or so assists. If we trade him after he comes back for around a year to remind the league what value he has and actually get value in return for him, so be it. But I'm not a fan of throw him in the trash for some expiring contracts right now, in my mind that's short sighted. I can't blame them after 3 or so years of almost nothing from Gil, but it seems a lot of people are forgetting what Gilbert brings to the table.

Why is it that now every one of Gilbert's teammates have had career high statistical years playing alongside Arenas (Jamison, Butler, Hughes, Haywood, Stevenson). But yet, everyone still likes to jabber on about how Gilbert does not make his teammates better? What measure is being used to come to this conclusion? Gilbert's game does exactly that in my opinion, he makes everyone around him better (on the offensive side of the ball) and this is evidenced by the fact that every last one of his teammates has gone on to play WORSE without him.

IMO, with Gilbert on the floor, Blatche can be a 20/10 player. Without him he's not more than a 15/8 player.

To OP: Yes.

Hopefully next to a SG with some PG skills (Evan Turner).
