OT - Does Anyone Believe Favre Anymore?

Post#1 » by Kerb Hohl » Sat Mar 27, 2010 6:17 pm

I know it was kind of a split opinion in the public eye and wasn't as big of a deal because he was on the Jets, but back when he "retired" first, it was probably 20% conspiracy theorists who hated him already, 50% who weren't sure, thought both sides screwed up but cheered for the Jets, and 30% Favre homers that would support him 'til death.

I was watching a bunch of McNabb coverage the other day and it reminded me that it is probably 95% certain that he's coming back and just wants to skip training camp.

Anyways, I realize discussions used to get animated on here and RealGM is an oddity because it was probably 90/10 in favor of the death penalty from the day he faxed the papers back in to Ted, so let's try to keep this discussion fair and let's not talk about the past, we're here to talk about the future. :D

Anyways, I am wondering what you guys think now. Family, friends, etc. If we can all assume he's coming back, he told us he has nothing left to give in his first retirement and he's now on his third year away from the Pack.

My opinion is it is now totally split. You still have the 20-30% Favre people who love him regardless and everyone else hates him (for the time being). What say you?

I would respect him a lot more if he just came out and said that he just doesn't want to deal with training camp at his age with his experience level. We all know that's why he waits so long.

Yeah that is a good point too.

I guess I'm just wondering if anyone that isn't an admitted fan of Favre (fine, if that is your thing) has an argument as to why he's back again and how he wasn't lying to GB or NYJ.

The guy is a sociopath plain and simple. He doesn't care about anyone except Brett Favre. My ideal scenario involves the Vikings having the chance to get McNabb, but they pass waiting on Favre, and then Favre decides not to play.

The only thing that could top that would be Favre telling them he isn't coming back, they trade for McNabb and then he wants to come back.

This would be the greatest thing ever. I pray to the NFL gods daily for this to happen.

I just don't see that happening guys. My theory is that this is where he has wanted to go for 3-4 years now. Not that he "hated" the Packers and that's why he was going to mess with them but he had a plan to get to a contender, in a dome, and it wouldn't hurt if he could spite the Pack.

Now he's there. He's still playing his training camp game but if he isn't going to play, I think he'll give them the courtesy of telling them in the Mcnabb scenario.

If there's one common string throughout Favre's career, it's that he's selfish. At Southern Miss, when he was knocking off top-ranked schools, he got a taste of being top dog and didn't want to give it up. He didn't listen to anyone in Atlanta, was a drunk, and was traded. He was crazy and outta control in Green Bay, both on the field and off the field, and it wasn't until Holmgren and Mariucci got to him that he was able to settle down to an extent. After they left, he became top dog, and insisted on special treatment. The Packers...through Harlan, Wolf, Rhodes, and Sherman...were willing to give it to him, because they knew he was the best player on the team and didn't have the same influence on Favre that Holmgren and Mariucci had.

When TT came into town, fired Sherman, hired MM, and started building through the draft, Favre steadily became insecure with his place as top dog. When they started pressuring him to make decisions, Favre rebelled. Why? Because Favre has always been concerned about himself, his ego, and his needs. He thinks his career performance has earned him the right to be selfish...but in reality, that's how he's always been. That's not going to change in Minnesota. The difference is that Minny is willing to put up with it. They're willing to pamper him. They don't have anyone else. TT and MM aren't willing to. That's what the problem has been, from the beginning.

That's the problem, plain and simple. He's selfish. There was a time that the Packers were willing to put up with it because he was the best player they had. After a while...they were willing to put up with it because he was the best quarterback they had. But once A-Rod came in and showed that he could run the offense, they said screw it...we're not dealing with his sh** anymore.

To summarize I guess, I think Favre is going to do what Favre wants. I think he'll wait until training camp again before he makes a decision. Either way, I don't give a sh**.

If he comes back, we can get another shot at putting him in his place (though, at this point, the revenge and drama factor is mostly gone...he already beat us in the two most hyped games in this franchise's recent history).

If he doesn't come back...and the Vikes aren't able to land McNabb, they're going to struggle with Tavaris.

If he doesn't come back...and the Vikes land McNabb...they're going to have a better shot. But, count me amongst those who thinks McNabb is overrated, and thus, doesn't think he'll take the Queens as far as Favre did, let alone any further.

I think he should leave coming off another pretty good year even if it ended bad again. I know he is a freak of nature, but father time is going to come calling one of these years. I really don't think he is going to have another year like last year. I kind of hope he comes back so the Pack have a shot at beating his ass.

He's now back for his third season after saying he "had nothing left to give."

What a con artist.

I can't say I'm surprised...I wish I could quote my Dad's prespective on how he feels about him but I don't wanna get banned for language...especially when talking about that "f***ing inbred hillbilly f***" as my Dad says...what can I say...he has a general distaste for the guy
