Would you trade Love for the rights to Wes Johnson or Aminu?

Post#1 » by Dan's with the Wolves » Sat Mar 27, 2010 5:09 pm

If the Wolves are going to sign Darko, They really need to have a low post scoring threat playing with Darko. That leaves Al Jefferson as the better tandem with Darko because there would be little inside scoring presence with a Darko/Love front court.
Would you trade Love for the draft rights to Wes Johnson or Aminu? I doubt Love could get anyone higher in the draft and he is probably worth more that anyone lower in the draft.

yes, I would. And the team that can be our partner is Indiana.

Ive been thinking about this as well. Im a fan of the Darko-Al combo and convinced that we cannot keep Love & Al. I would trade Love for one of them picks. I wonder if Indiana would be interested in Love + CHA pick + pieces (maybe Sessions or Flynn) to get Granger? Either way, i would trade Love to get a top pick.

It may seem stupid to trade a young and relatively proven player for a rookie but honestly a trade like this helps both teams out. I'd obviously rather have Wes but I still think I'd consider trading Love for Aminu. There might have to be filler involved in that case which is fine. A lineup like this next year is enticing:

PG:Flynn
SG:Turner
SF: Wes/Aminu
PF: Al
C: Darko

Pretty sick if you ask me.

No to Aminu
Maybe to Wes Johnson.

I really don't like either player all that much. I like Wes Johnsons athleticism, and 3 point stroke but I don't like that he's already 22, and doesn't really get to the ft line...at all..

I might, depends on what other moves Kahn made. Assuming we get Turner in the draft, I'd prefer to go after an established SF if possible such as Gay, Iggy, Deng, or Granger. Love + cap space + other asset should get us someone pretty good.

If we want Deng, I think it'd take Gomes + cap space not Love

Wing rotation of Turner/Johnson/Brewer would be absolutely sick.

If I could trade Jefferson for Johnson I would. Unfortunately the only team that would have done that trade is Indiana, but they are winning.

I guess this trade implies that we have the 2nd pick in the draft (possibly even a 1st) because most of the bottom dwellers will arguably opt for Cousins and Favors with the 3rd and 4th pick (in no particular order). That leaves the Minnesota roster with this...

Milicic Pekovic Hollins
Jefferson Gomes
Johnson Brewer
Turner Ellington
Flynn Sessions

You guys are such downers.
Let's just assume we draft Turner.
Then we trade Gomes for Luol Deng + cash (he has a huge contract and Chicago wants cap space this year...pretty sure we could get a top 15 Utah-type protected pick out of this instead but we'll just say cash instead).
Then we resign Darko and trade Pekovic's draft rights for a future protected first to a playoff team in the east. We'll say Milwaukee, who could use a post scorer off the bench (or possibly even starting at PF o_O).

Darko/Jefferson/Hollins
Jefferson/Love
Deng/Brewer
Turner/Ellington
Flynn/Sessions and soon to be Rubio
2 more 1st round picks

Oh noes, we might not get Turner and end up with the #5 pick oh noes!! Put in Wes Johnson instead and it's really not that terrible. We're in a good spot next year.

How about both. If we somehow couldn't get Turner, I think we could trade back and use another asset to get both Wes Johnson and Aminu. Maybe #4 & #23 for 6 & 8 (or equivalent) so that we could get them both and still keep Love and Jefferson (one would be traded for a young athletic big). Then our wing rotation would be:

Brewer
Ellington
Aminu
Johnson

This lineup would give you very good defense and with Aminu you could play him at the 4 in a smallball lineup. Ellington, Brewer, and Johnson could all hit the 3. The only issue would be you are banking on Aminu to develop the ability to create his own shot, and you may not have a true #1 in the group. This would mean we have to go way of the Pistons model to compete for a championship.

Do you have a 3 team trade in mind to accomplish this?

I'm not really a big fan of the idea even if it could be done though. If we had #4, I'd probably take Favors, resign Darko, and trade Love or Jefferson.

Is everybody here hoping Aminu can play SF? Seems like more of a PF to me.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

Thinks change quickly here ay? Didn't everyone just hogpile on me earlier week for this proposition?

Love for Johnson please

I'm with HoWo on Aminu. I can't see him as a SF in the triangle.

I would do it, but I'd try to trade Jefferson too (preferably in a deal moving up to get Derrick Favors).

I'd agree, which is why I don't have him near the top of my list.

His best case seems to be Josh Smith (not that I'm saying he'll be anywhere near that good).

Haven't convinced me yet, but I've warmed up to it. I guess I'm probably more comfortable with it because losing one more season doesn't bother me. What makes it interesting is Milicic had this to say, "This is a good thing for me here right now. I think me and Al Jefferson can work well together next season." I believe one of our power forwards won't be in our long term plans. I'm just not sure which.

That's why Johnson seems a much more attractive option. You have a better idea of what your getting instead of a tweener with potential.
