New Bosh free agent insight - seems like a new tune

Post#1 » by dagger » Mon Mar 29, 2010 3:19 pm

First, Bosh was all about being the Man

And there were to be no discounts.

Now, based on this interview, it seems like he's done a complete flip.

Now he wants to go to a contender (fair enough)

Now he has more than enough money (fair enough)

So this change of attitude seems to justify the notion that his head isn't fully into what he's doing right now.

It certainly seems to be occupying his thoughts, and with Hedo off on another planet, it's perhaps no accident that the Raptors seem to be drifting aimlessly. Everyone seems to have their own agenda - except Jack and presumably the younger players who are commited to the Raptors by their contracts.

The Raptors played the Heat Sunday so the local media had to ask Chris Bosh about free agency. Bosh's main goal is to play for a team that wins.

"It's nice here, but there are a lot of nice places," Bosh told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

"Winning," Bosh said when asked what his free agent decision will hinge on. "I'm fortunate enough to have enough money. After seven years in the league, I want to play on a contender."

Bosh also said he won't make a quick decison about where he's going to play and that his connection with Dwyane Wade is overstated because they played for Team USA and they are represented by the same agency.

"I think it's going to drag out for a while," Bosh told The Miami Herald Sunday. "There are so many possibilities and scenarios, with guys staying with their own teams and trying to get other guys [to sign]. You have to look at combinations and possibilities of what could happen. So I don't expect it to be over too quickly."

"I know Dwyane a little bit, not a lot," Bosh added. "We haven't spent that much time outside of USA Basketball. People always are going to look for some kind of connection. That's understandable. People are going to try to make things up. There is always going to be speculation. So I'll let everybody write their stories and keep going about my business."

Has he really changed his tune? Sounds like exactly what he's been saying for the last year and a half.

I disagree with the assessment of the OP.

And a link would be nice.

It's an article from Miami, but it definitely sounds like a change in opinion.

Definietely more to the point here solely looking at the Bosh quotes

He wants to play for a contender (Raps are clearly not)

He is fortunate to have enough money (He does not need the absoloute max contract this offseason)

Conclusion for Bosh: If he likes a fresh situation where he be on a contending team, he can accept taking less then the absolute max.

Conclusion for Raps: His days are likely numbered and our return for him (if at all) is dropping

Meh, doesn't really read like a fresh tune to me. Same old song and dance, seems like.

His facial expressions and body language in the past month shows that he is done in Toronto ... in my opinion.

I hate that he has dropped himself from being a max player. Our return from him, if anything, has gone so far down in the past month with his turnovers and jump-shot offense. I liked his two or three aggressive moves yesterday, but they need to be consistent for this team to win.

I have been a Bosh fan since he arrived, but his head is not there right now. If he wants to be on a winning team, he needs to be a winner. This, currently, is not an apt description of Chris Bosh.

In his defense, he has been double and triple-teamed to death the past few games. Not alot to be excited about for the 2nd option lately.

#1. This is a new tune insofar that Bosh had previously spoken about being "the man" wherever he eventually went. Now, not so much.

#2. Don't believe the "I have enough money" claim. If Bosh can get max money somewhere, he'll jump at it - even if it means signing with a rebuilding Nets team in a S&T deal.

Bosh has less than ten years left in the NBA and after that he's basically going to have to live off whatever he's earned during his career. The additional $30 million he earns in a max deal can pay him an extra $750,000+ per year for the rest of his life, without touching the principal (after taxes). No way he walks away from that.

I really thought this would be different than the Vince situation, but mannnn this is totally starting to feel like it. Not saying its identical but there are some very strong similarities.

this is a change in tune, he sounds defeated, where as at the beginning of the year he was firm on his point and didn't give out too much detail.

It's a given fact that Bosh is going to be out of here next season. Change in Attitude or not, this season and the last should have been a big enough clue for people to see that. Bosh loves the city and it's not the City that he's leaving, it's the team. People can be mad about him leaving, but the ones you should really be mad at is the entire team—the entire staff. You can't blame a guy for wanting to win.

I disagree. This is a distict move away from "I want to be the man". He is basically letting us know that he will be moving on after this season.

This basically makes clear that a MOVE of some kind is more or less certain - the only question is where - and it will be determined by what else goes on.

Staying with Toronto would not require any of these things to really be factors, though getting players here would be, but that - or staying - was clearly not mentioned and would seemingly only happen if others options didn't come to fruition based on the market.

hes still a bitch. He can talk all he wants about contending but this is 2 seasons in a row where HES broken down. At some point he has to look at himself and hold himself accountable because right now hes deferring blame when really the last 2 games are a direct result of him losing it for us.

How? Vince bitched out every chance he got, Bosh actually played for us. A change of mind shouldn't make him out to be a douche. Like I said it's been a team effort and that effort just wasn't good enough. Bosh put up big numbers this season with hopes of actually making it to the playoffs not barely making it. Vince DEMANDED to get traded. Bosh has NOT. Another reason why this team can't get a break is because of fans like yourselves, the Raptors' fan base has suddenly turned into a bunch of whiners. I guess we can thank Vince for that.

What bothers me, as a fan, is that with 10 games left to play and the playoffs up in the air, our team is in turmoil, spinning out of control and we still have to hear this same speculative crap surrounding Bosh. I "get" that he needs to leave all his doors open, because they are and that it's a good bargening tool. I understand all that. I appreciate the politics and acting job you need to do, to a degree.

But on the other hand, I just wish we would hear firm statements about playoffs, winning games, inspiring team mates, and so forth. You can keep your options open contractually and simply state that your focus is on the team and winning these critical games and that he'll deal with his free agency WHEN HE IS A FREE AGENT.

The focus should be on the name on the front of the jerey, not the back.
(and yes I completely understand that are connected during this important off season).
