MIN/IND
MIN in/IND out:
Danny Granger (SF)
T.J. Ford (PG)
IND 1st round pick (currently #9)
MIN out/IND in:
Al Jefferson (PF)
Jonny Flynn (PG)
CHA 1st round pick (currently #16)
MIN gets a stud SF and ups their second pick from a late lotto range to top 10. The price is eating T.J. Ford's 1 remaining year.
IND gets a true PG in a very PG light draft. They also get a great low post presence. With the later CHA pick they could attempt to grab a younger wing.
**thought about using the UTH pick instead of CHA pick, but thought that was probably too little for IND. The UTH pick is currently #24.

Re: MIN/IND
Might have to add in the #24 as well, but I'd do it.

I'd do it as well. Don't know about Indy, though. Pacers fans probably wouldn't give Granger alone for Jefferson, Flynn, and #16, let alone Granger + the #9 pick. Personally I think the value is fairly close but I don't think Indy values Al as much as we value Granger.

Anyone else think Granger is a little overrated on these boards?

Re: MIN/IND
I think that deal is absolutely great. TJ is still young and, along with sessions, make for a great PG tandem. We can still draft Turner at 2 (hopefully) and then a Jefferson replacement with the pacers pick which right now is at 4 which could land Favors as well.
Darko (28) - Favors (20) - Hollins
Love (30) - Granger (10) - Favors (8)
Granger (26) - Brewer (22) - George (Utah Pick)
Turner (30) - Ellington (18)
Sessions (24) - Ford (24)
Darko (28) - Favors (20) - Hollins
Love (30) - Granger (10) - Favors (8)
Granger (26) - Brewer (22) - George (Utah Pick)
Turner (30) - Ellington (18)
Sessions (24) - Ford (24)

I would do this trade, but I have noticed this. I think its partially due to our lack of anything resembling a good multi talented wing and the fact that we are trying to move one of our bigs.
Has Indiana made the playoffs with Granger as the lead guy?

Re: MIN/IND
It would be highly unlikely that Indy would trade Granger. That said, I do agree with Krap that he tends to be over rated around here. Health issues will always be a concern. He's not built to last like a Kobe or Artest. I could see him playing at a high level another 3-4 years but I don't trust him to stay healthy longer than that.

Re: MIN/IND
Basically Jefferson for Granger IMO ... Indy needs a PF and I have little value for Flynn right now, so we're basically sliding up a few slots to take on Fords salary for a year. We have a glut at PF, and this is a good example of how we may choose to proceed.

Re: MIN/IND
Despite the overrated bit, I'd do this trade too, but something to keep in mind Granger turns 27 next month. Ford is the worst part of this deal and would be a terrible, terrible fit here. If this trade was consummated we would need another PG for next season to go with Sessions.

Re: MIN/IND
I agree we probably overrate him. We also probably overrate Iggy, Deng, and Gay. I think that's to be expected, though. The team desperately needs talent at the wings and these are the names that get thrown around as potentially "available". They all have their warts, as do Wes Johnson, Aminu, etc. but wart-free players like Kobe and Lebron are out of our league.

Re: MIN/IND
Here's small forwards who we overrate (or guys we won't stop talking about) in order
1 Granger - I was tired of hearing about those rumors
2 Gay - Gay Love, Gay Sessions, Gay Favors, Gay Cousins (am I missing any)
3 Deng - I think we've seen pretty much every offer with Deng heading to Minnesota
4 Iggy - I don't recall really any trades except for him except the one I made today

Re: MIN/IND
I agree ... we are a desperate bunch. We've suffered through years of bad luck and bad management, so with a rebuild in progress, it is kind of hard to move forward with much confidence.
We need a PG - Flynn is not it. Our hope lies with the Rube or Wall. Then if all goes well, we get a go to guy.

Overrated on these boards, underrated by the media IMO. Playing for the Pacers doesn't help when it comes to getting credit from the media I guess.

I like this trade too. I can think of no team that would value Flynn as highly as the Pacers. They've set up their payroll so that in 2011, they have Granger and no one else but youth on rookie deals. Their big hole is a young PG, and they would love to have one to play and develop with all of next year's minutes.
It would be tough for them to give up the face of their franchise in Granger, but they trade for size (younger size, too), and get their PG? I think this trade would be something both teams would need to take a long look at.
Good job, ritt.

Re: MIN/IND
Good work on the trade.
I don't think Indy does the pickswap though, that pick is their 2nd best asset after granger.
And we don't give up that much without a pickswap.
I also have doubts that they would want flynn. He is similiar to tj ford in size and game (short shoot-first PG's), and they have been unhappy with ford to put it mildly. They also passed on jered bayless for brandon rush (traded).
The player they would covet is definitely rubio. Love is similiar to troy murphy in his game.
Good passing, rebounding, and outside shooting, not alot of low post scoring or defense.
Jefferson fits because he is the low post scorer they lack.
Peckovic might be someone they'd consider, but we wouldn't want to include him with al or love.
An interesting wrinkle in any granger trade is that he is a Base Year Compensation player until july 1st, making him near impossible to trade until then, so any draft pick trading would have to be picking the player and then trading him when the moratorium ends july 8.
I wouldn't call him an overrated player. He is on the same tier as a joe johnson, he is just on a bad team with no low-post scorer or interior defense. IF we trade Al or Love, we need to get someone with granger's scoring ability and outside shooting ability back. No luol deng's or crap contract + draft pick.
The injury-prone thing is what scares me. He just can't seem to make it through a season healthy.
Come playoff time he might not have much left in the tank. The knee is why he fell in the draft, and it is very possible in 3 or 4 years he could be a shell of his current self if his knees go bad.
