Kings waive Joey Dorsey

Kind of surprising considering Brockman is coming off a knee injury, but does not mean too much overall.

Even though Dorsey hardly received minutes, I like what I see from him. But oh well.

I do wonder if there is a requirement for big men here in Sacramento of how offensive-skilled you are.

Seriously I mean, I know we have a glut and technically with Brockman we don't need him, but still the dude can play, and he provides a lot we lack. I don't see the problem with just waiting for the off-season and seeing how everything falls.

He really could shine somewhere given the opportunity.

I'm guessing there has to be something else to this--either locker room problems or Dorsey is going to get a chance elsewhere. Otherwise, you're just waiving a guy for no reason.

Mehhh Brockman is better. Can shoot better rebound better and hustles better. Dorsey should have taken up football. But I'm guessing some other team made him a promise like someone alluded to...

The reason why we waived Dorsey:

Kings cut Joey Dorsey largely for clownish behavior, source says. They don't consider him bad guy, but coaches feared his act rubbing off.

Umm, WTF?

^^When you've lost many games because the young guys lost focus or didn't take something as seriously as they needed to then It's not a bad idea to make a point by cutting a guy who isn't always focused.

We want to be one of the teams to take a big step forward next year and this is just a message about where we want to go and what we expect out of the players.

I think this also has significance as far as the draft goes, I think this shows we are less likely to take a guy who has a reputation for not working hard or screwing off.

Yeah, I agree with you.

But that is the first time I ever heard someone is being cut due to "joking around too much" though.

Given that he recorded a DNP-CD yesterday in a game where the team started with 9 guys and ended with 7, it stands to reason that he seriously screwed up somehow. The Wojnarowski claim fits IMO.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

Not surprising the way he got the butthole treatment in yesterdays game. Well at least we can say we had a shotblocker/defender for a while! hahaha.

It's actually something of a surprise that Dorsey lasted this long. I mean, Adelman is just about the most laid back coach ever, and there were times when Adelman looked like he was on the verge of strangling Dorsey. I think the "joking around too much" is more accurately "being completely uncoachable," despite having a wide enough body to box out an entire side of the paint, a 15-foot wingspan, and mad hops.

In all of Dorsey's time in the league he showed zero improvement. In that respect he is the exact opposite of Landry. Landry learned to compensate for his weaknesses very quickly in his time in the league and continued to improve significantly every year. Landry lacked the width and arm strength to box out an area, so he quickly adjusted to box out his man instead, he also picked up a whole lot from Battier and Hayes on both defensive and offensive spacing, help defense, and on how to assist teammates in boxing out their men when his own assignment is a weak rebounder.

Dorsey, on the other hand, just kept playing in the same boneheaded way he's always played. I really expected Westphal not to have played Dorsey in an actual game at all, but Dorsey ended up getting some playing time. As always, though, Dorsey didn't take his opportunities seriously and it's the same old dropped passes, missed free throws, and offensive fouls off the ball. It's like the guy is a bowl of turnovers waiting to happen. I think this time he has finally run out of chances. Maybe this will be a wakeup call for him, but somehow I doubt it...

He's signed with the Bobcats.

I think he's out of the NBA, to be honest.

Well the bobcats can really use him as an extra body in the playoffs playing against the Cavs/Orlando good sign for them

I don't think he's signed with the Bobcats. By the time that post was made Dorsey still hasn't cleared waivers. He's not making the min and Charlotte is over the cap (i.e. they cannot claim him off waivers). If the Bobcats sign him now to the min he won't be eligible for the playoffs (since he was a King past March 1st).

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (whose basketball side of operations is run by the Rockets' front office) still holds Dorsey's d-league rights if they want him back, but he may very well be out of chances as far as the NBA goes.

they also 15 players and would naturally need to cut someone. With all the random players that get signed at this point in the season, I wouldn't be that suprised to see someone claim him.

Return to Sacramento Kings
