He seems to be the type of player Kahn might target. Interested?

Not really, I think we need that wing that can get us 20 points every night. Childress doesn't seem like that kind of guy...he seems more like Corey Brewer.

I've been interested for a couple years. I know Dr K has been too.
If we actually get the #2 pick (Turner) a Turner/Brewer/Childress wing rotation would be fun to watch.

Re: Josh Childress?
I've always been a big Childress fan. He's always been one of the most efficient SG's out there and has pretty good handles. Yes, like Corey Brewer he is an above average defender and slim for his position. Word has it, he's improved a lot overseas the last two years and if you look at his numbers when he was with Atlanta that is pretty promising, especially considering the other free agents we will be considering. He does have about 20 lbs on Brewer though and should be able to be an effective SF defender.

If I were to guess numbers, I'd guess 13-15 points, 5-6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.2 turnovers, less than a steal or a block a game, good but not elite defense...now compare that to Mike Miller. So what's his value? I like him at 5 mil but not at 7 mil a year.

Re: Josh Childress?
He'd probably cost more than we'd want to pay, wouldn't he? He signed a 3-year, 20 mil contract in Europe, so he must be set to make something like 6.66 mil this year. Since he chose that over the 5.5ish/yr that Atlanta offered him, it seems like we'd need to offer more than that just to get him to the table.

Like the guy, but we'd need the cap space to sign him to a contract.

re having to pay him more -- I don't think that's necessarily true. I would think a lot of american born players would take less to play in the NBA than to play in Europe.
re Atlanta offer -- I don't think Atlanta offered him anything more than the one year qualifying offer.

The newspaper reported Monday the Hawks had a deal on the table worth nearly $36 million, with a first-year salary in excess of the midlevel exception of $5.6 million.
Sund wouldn't reveal the exact numbers of Atlanta's offer. But he said it exceeded the salary cap's midlevel exception, which is more than $5.5 million, and would have made Childress the team's fourth highest paid player.
He chose an extra million playing in Europe over a major role on a playoff team then. Why would he take less now? I think you're right about most US players preferring the NBA, but it seems like money talks with this guy.

Re: Josh Childress?
^^^This is going back 2 years. I was referring to what he was offered this past offseason. I'm not sure where the 36 million came from, since by all other accounts it was a 5 yr 33 million offers. Not bad, but the market has gone down since then and he may want to come over before the new cba takes effect. I would pay him more than most though, maybe max say, $7/yr for 4 years.

Remember, too, that his contract is no longer worth what it was when he signed it. The dollar has gone up in value in comparison to the Euro by quite a bit.

He said he's leaning towards finishing his contract in Greece, and even if he did come back to the nba, he'd most likely re-sign with the hawks.

Milicic was planning to head back to europe as well ... money talks. Period.
Do I want him? He's not someone I'd go after, but is a player I would take him if a fair deal.

Re: Josh Childress?
He's solid, but I think we need alot more than Childress to be competitive. I wouldn't consider until we make our lottery/draft/FA splash - re-evaluate needs- then maybe if we have the cash a the role for him.
