Isn't he everything the Lakers need now? And it's not like people weren't calling for Fish's head last year either.

There is no way of knowing the Lakers would've picked Douglas they were to told to draft him by the Knicks to complete the trade he wasn't as far as we know the player the Lakers would have drafted if they decided to keep that pick.

Well if we wanted Odom back, and sign Artest then we damn well sell that pick.

There were still a ton of good players available their that would have been rotation players for us. The lakers really fudged up the draft big time, I didn't realize the financial situation was so dire.

"What if's" are pointless. Fisher isn't awful, Brown is a find, Farmar.....hopefully will be traded soon.

The Lakers financial situation isn't dire but if they want to sign Kobe to an extension which will probably be 30 million a year they have to trade away some 1st round picks to make having a 30 million dollar player easier and the Douglas pick was one of those sacrifices. If the Lakers keep Kobe, Artest, Pau, Bynum, Brown, and Odom as their core there is only enough room to add a PG with the MLE everybody surrounding these 7 players are going to be rookies and minimum players with the exception Luke because of his contract.Sasha also but it looks like he's headed for an early summer buyout.

PG will be the mail off season goal. I see Kobe as a player that will sign, just when and where will be when all the papers are in order and the CBA is not a major concern. 30 million. That is a lot. That is M. Jordan money. Why can't he survive on 20 million a year and hope that there is a little room for some players who are not just throw away players. Come on Kobe. When is enough money enough.

If the Lakers win it all again Kobe will get his 30 million if he gets his 5th ring he'll be winningest franchise player since Jordan and probably deserves that kind of money. 5 rings puts him in the Jordan, Magic, Kareem, Russell hemisphere of players.

Problem is they're going to spend the entire mid-level on a PG anyways when they could have gotten similar production out of 1 million dollar per year rookie. Most of these rookies and former scrubs will turn to gold in this system and around these established veteran stars, its not a big risk to bring in a rookie.

Tekk do you really think if Douglas were a Laker Phil would've played him much and don't compare it to Farmar's rookie season because the Lakers then were a mediocre team now they are the defending champs. The last laker rookie that got any playing time during a title defense was Rush but that only happened because that Lakers team was extremely thin on the bench and that team couldn't repeat in the end.

I haven't seen douglas play so I don't know, it's not really about douglas, it's about the draft in general. Chase Budinger would have been absolute dynamite for us, so would blair.

I liked Budinger too he really would've helped the Lakers and Phil would've played him during the time Walton was out but again with Pau's extension and now Kobe's extension and back then looking to resign Ariza or finding a replacement those things were more important last summer to the Lakers than the draft and don't forget Odom had to be resigned to.
