Spending the Cap Space

Heres my thoughts at each position:

PG: Flynn & Sessions - Ideally, it would be nice to upgrade this position whether its moving Flynn to the bench, or moving Sessions for a different backup. However, this has been a decent combination this season.

SG: Brewer & Ellington - Once again, it would be nice to upgrade and move Brewer to the bench. However, he has proven that he can start. This was probably the position that exceeded expectations the most.

SF: Gomes - We have zero depth at the SF position.

PF: Jefferson & Love - This is obviously our best position. It remains to be seen if they will be happy in their roles.

C: Milicic & Hollins - This is a position of okay depth. Hollins might not be the answer for our 4th big, but hes serviceable.

Wildcards
Rubio - Would look good in the starting PG role.
Pekovic - Might be expendable if we keep the other three bigs.
Our Pick - Ideally this would be used on Turner.
CHA Pick - Do we go after a prospect, or use as a trading chip?
UTAH Pick - See "CHA Pick"

I agree for the most part.
I think one more year of Flynn starting will be trying at times, but I am still confident he will become a solid piece for us, ideally as a dynamic backup to Rubio. Sessions may show some improvement next year, but I am actually open to moving him for a better shooting, vet PG to tutor Jonny.

Unlike many on this board, I am fine with Brewer starting long-term, as long as we have a stud SF next to him (again, ideally Turner, who I would hope would be just as comfortable as an SF)

Bigs- I would like to see a 3-headed monster named Al Darklove, at least for the beginning of next season, with any trades involving that monster coming at the deadline next year, after further assesment.

However, if the draft doesn't shake out the way we want it to shake out, I wouldn't be against moving Al or Love for the right offer, emphasis on the word right

Either way this offseason is a success for me if we obtain a quality wing rotation. I would like to draft Turner at #1 or #2(unless Wall can net Turner + Asset). The contingency pick is Wesley Johnson.

Followed by, Darko at 3-4 million over 2-3 years. I like him, i think he is what we need, but I see no reason to give him MLE type money and contract length. He isnt a unique player. But he is a quality big guy who knows what going on and seems to fit well in the offense.

After that I need a SF that can shoot the ball. I would like to have Mike Miller back. Can shoot, smart guy, moves the ball around, team guy etc. Again I would hope he could be had for half his current salary, I would give him 4-5 million for a couple of years.

Next I would pray that Pekovic decides to hone his skills in Europe for another year. If not, trade bait. I dont want to trade Kevin Love and I want to see Al come back next season after an offseason of 'rest.' I really think his body just needs a couple months off.

In this scenario, I dont want Pekovic at the expense of Al Jeff or Love...and I also dont necessarily need to move up in the draft. If CHA, UTAH, Pekovic, Sessions, Hollins, Flynn could get me Wesley Johnson, that would be great. But I dont need to trade up just to take Aminu, Cole Aldrich or Favors.

My ideal offseason adds some talent to the wing spots while trying to remain at least somewhat fiscally responsible. I think it will be very important to have at least a little cap room going into next season for trades and 'bargain' free agents.

1. Trade Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes and either the CHA or UT pick to Detroit for the 5th pick, Prince and Charlie V.
(Detroit gets their low-post threat in Al, moves Charlie V's salary to help soften the long-term salary crunch and cuts Gomes to save even more)
(Minnesota gets a "serviceable" back-up big in Charlie V, although probably not ideal for a center, he has the size. Becomes a 2011 FA player)

2. Draft Turner at #2 and Wes Johnson at #5.

3. Sign Pekovic and Darko.

And then once we got Charlie V, we play him at Center. Or as as the 3rd PF...no thanks. Other than that i would love to pay him 30 million over the next 4 years

I know there is a fascination with obtaining high draft picks, especially before the draft, and maybe i am just an Al Jeff homer, but seems awfully steep price to get a #5 pick.

This isn't bad. I'm not a big Chalrie V guy, but if he's coming off the bench, that's not too bad. Your depth chart is off, which makes it look worse than it is.

I suppose Pekovic has a better shot at being a center than Charlie V. If he has fallen out of favor with the Pistons, then the picks might not be needed. I just got a feeling Pistons fans would be asking for more.
