BREAKING NEWS: Clipper Darrell calling it quits!

He announced it on the Davis Sports Deli podcast:

People thought it was a April Fool's joke, but it's not. I write for TheNoLookPass.com and one of our writers just talked to him on the phone to confirm it. He is retiring, his body, heart, and mind can't take it anymore to the point where it's affecting his health.

How sad is this? I mean, it's heartbreaking and a reflection of what this franchise has come to. I'm sad for Darrell, and definitely angry at the Clippers FO for letting it come to this.

We will have a new interview with him up tonight at http://thenolookpass.com

Thoughts?

I think it's a horrible time to jump ship honestly. We're making moves in the front office to become better. We lose Dunleavy as the head coach, and made space to sign a max contract. We still hold key pieces to become a good team with EJ, Blake, Baron, and Kaman. Why not wait until the upcoming season to see what moves we make?

I'm sick an tired of watching this team lose as well. It's not like I've been following them for just a few seasons. I can recall being a Clipper fan way back until 6th grade. Although I'm sure I've been one for longer. That's at least.. 14 years I can recall rooting for the team. Being a Clipper fan for so long, you've kinda grown to accept that the team is gonna lose. I think that's what makes winning so special for the franchise when it happens. Sounds strange, but it's just what I expect until Sterling is gone.

If we sign a few decent guys this off-season, and get a legitimate coach. I guarantee he'll come back unless he jump to the Lakers, or Orlando.. or just becomes a bandwagoner for an already highly successful team, and it'll actually make him look like an idiot, but it's his life and I hope whatever he does makes him happy. In the end, the game of basketball is just a sport.

If rooting for this team has taken that big of a toll on his health than it's his decision to make and it's his life. I'm very shocked that Darrell is calling it quits as a Clippers fan. I have stated before that he is the whole reason behind me being thanumba2clippersfan because it seemed like he's done so much that no one could ever be the number 1 fan of this team.

I guess that spot is open now but I won't change my name.

I hope that he comes back to rooting for this team because I feel that things will be much better next season. One thing he could do is just be more of a normal fan and go to a game once in awhile and watch the others on TV. He always gave the Clippers fans a voice and was recognized for it. Too bad it has come to this :(
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

In the back of my mind I was thinking it had to be for April fools, but I was a fool to believe that Darrell would just leave us. If he gave up the chance of getting $50,000 a year from the Mavs to do the same thing as a Clippers fan he just isn't going to stop rooting for the team suddenly. We all know that to be a Clippers fan you have to be true to the team, committed, and have patience.

I am glad that I will still be able to hear his chants at Clipper games. :)
