Somebody mentioned Eva Cassidy a couple pages back. I found an album of her and Chuck Brown that's even got some live cuts on it. Oh man they are jammin!

Trying to wake-up this morn. Tried Misfits "Where Eagles Dare" -- my anthem. Not working. Trying Major Lazer for the alarms and such mixed in.

So, I'm in a new town every week for my job -- which has renewed my strip club addiction. There have been three periods of my life where I became addicted to the pole-swinging cuties: when I was in a band; when I dated a stripper off the back of a long, committed relationship; and, recently. Needless to say, these have lead to some great pub stories (both from and about strippers). Speaking of, we desperately need a "personal stories" thread on this page to trade some good tales. I collect stories, and the random thoughts thread doesn't cut it.

But, I digress. This is a music thread. Back to the strippers. So, the three, coolest strippers I've come across lately all had one thing in common -- they loved dancing to Mindless Self Indulgence. Personally, I liked them a hell of alot better the first time around when they were called Korn. But, these go out to them:

any of you rock guitar junkies oughta take my word for
it and check out Sonny Landreth live. He's going to be
~ local 2x in the next approx month.

He plays live in Frederick (Weinberg Center) the
weekend of the Boston Marathon so I can't go to
that. He will be at the Birchmere in early May.

video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pf2k7WpkIxQ

guitars players like Clapton, Eric Johnson, Knopfler concur -
he's got the largest collection of tools in his toolbox of licks
of any guitarist I've ever seen. He does stuff you simply will not
see/hear other guitar players do. And if you ARE familiar with
his stuff, when you see him live, you'll shake your head and
think "so that's how he does that".

Nice tip, Jim. I'll have to check more of him out.

For the old timers, Roger Waters is touring performing "The Wall." He's bringing it to the Verizon Center on Oct. 10th. Tickets go on sale 5/3. You know I'm going.

Oh and another old school note, Rush is back on tour as well.

just checked the schedule at the birchmere. May 29th with Tom Principato who
I don't know anything about but remember seeing his name around town a lot
back in the late 80s-early 90s.

on a complete different note/style/genre, this guy, Darrel Scott, is
playing Jammin Java on May 20th (iirc). He might be known more as
a country/bluegrass guy but I would say that's actually not right.
His CD Theater of the Unheard has an amazing collection of songs
(he's a great songwriter). And I don't know who can top the likes of
this as far as singing and simultaneously backing yourself up (not
at all easy).

this isn't the version I've seen before (google Darrell Scott River Take me
Old Settlers Music Fest) but you get the idea.

Another late to the party introduction for me. Chick in Dallas just turned me on to Pinback. Likin' um. They feel like a late 80's alt band throwback. Give a listen. I think a lot of people who post here will enjoy them. The closest soundalike I can think of is the "Owner of a Lonely Heart" era of Yes... sorta... Naw, there's a better comparable, I just can't put my finger on it. Anyway...

if you're a musician, there is almost no way you could come away disappointed
by either Darrell Scott or by Sonny Landreth. Both are musician's musicians.
Amazing either one is better known, not the either one is what I would
consider unknown.

another band I've discovered somewhat recently (last 2-3 years) is Assembly
of Dust. Friend gave me a copy of the CD The Honest Hour. More I listened,
more I liked it.

Flippin' love it, Doc -- especially the Buster sample. PS. Still debating whether to include my Houston/Dallas stories in the tales thread.

I was perusing youtube for Bon Iver clips this evening and stumbled upon this site for indie artists. While I've only heard about 7.2% of the acts featured here, some of you (barely, specifically) have probably played with them and/or seen them before.

Anyway, I'm still making my way through the content but there's some really cool and interesting stuff on here. Here's what I'm liking so far:

These guys, Bad Veins

http://www.laundromatinee.com/sessions/ ... _bad_veins

These chicks singing about getting drunk and eatin chicken

http://www.laundromatinee.com/sessions/ ... se_darlins

And this fella, Joe Pug. Like him the most.

Hey Bullet, sorry about the late response. I've been busy traveling around and going a bit insane with the clubs. I'll check out that site and report back. In the meantime, I got turned on to a band I hadn't heard of and re-introed to another, both of whom I think you'd dig.

The Weepies (Simon and Garfunkelish -- love em)

The Broken Bells (Rush and Yes)

Edit: Oh wow, I saw these guys, Bullet -- Bad Veins. They opened for Maps and Atlases at the Black Cat. I really dug them.

I just saw Pearl Jam for the first time. I was floored by how much energy they bring. Muse has a lot of energy, but I've never seen such awareness of an arena full of people. Eddie Vedder is a rock God.

Edit: Here is the Set List:

Of The Girl, Animal, World Wide Suicide, Got Some, Unthought Known, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, MFC, Johnny Guitar, Amongst The Waves, Even Flow, God’s Dice, Present Tense, Daughter, Wishlist, Insignificance, Do The Evolution

1st encore: Off He Goes, Just Breathe, Given To Fly, The Fixer, Life Wasted, Porch

2nd encore: No More (with guest Tomas Young), Black, Better Man, Happy Birthday to Mark “Smitty” Smith, Alive, Rockin’ In The Free World (by Neil Young), Yellow Ledbetter/Star Spangled Banner (with guest Curt Tomasevicz playing bass guitar)

Love Pearl Jam live. Also love the story of how Eddie first sang "Rockin' in the Free World." It was at some award ceremony, I believe the MTV awards. And Neil Young's album with that single had just come out a month before. Eddie was backstage at the awards, and saw Neil right before he was about to perform. As a huge Neil Young fan, Eddie ran up to him and told him how he loved the new album and played it over and over. So, Neil invites him to sing the single on stage. And he sang it perfectly. I just love the story because improv moments like that are what rock is about to me. And it shows that even rockstars have their idols.

That is a great story, ba. Thanks for sharing! They played it great here at KC. Eddie was catching tamborines from off stage and throwing them to the crowd. Great energy... which is something PJ never gets accused of not having.

Some great vids of eclectic PJ shows.
