Lions Acquire OG Rob Sims

Post#1 » by TSE » Mon Apr 5, 2010 5:11 pm

But compensation not announced yet. He's only under contract for this year for about a mill.

EDIT: Reported as DE Robert Henderson plus our 5th for Sims and their 7th.

I love how Schefter adds in a sentence of commentary, "so the Lions improve their OL". No kidding? Maybe he should do that after every team acquires every player. "Rams draft Bradford, oh and by the way they improve their QB position, you know because they didn't have him as an option before and now they do". What's with stating the obvious? He could have used that space to tell us some fun facts about the new player, such that he likes to breathe air and eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner each and every day.

LOL

What do you think of the guy TL? He only gave up 1 sack and 10 QB pressures last year. I think this rules out Okung because we'd only draft Okung to move Backus over and now that's not happening anymore and I doubt they move Backus to RT.

Just heard the news, GREAT DEAL!!! Sims is still only 26 yrs old and a solid OG. He should fit right next to Backus. Hopefully this will help Backus out so he doesn't have to cheat as much.

We probably would have drafted an OL before the 5th round so now we can address other needs earlier. GREAT DEAL!!

Hmm not sure if you were asking me, not familiar with what TL means. But as I've stated my position many times before, I would not be drafting Okung to move Backus to Guard, so drafting Okung FOR ME doesn't change one iota. Bottom line, I'm gonna find me a trade for Backus, I know it's hard, but I'll figure it out and I'll get the most we can for him. Or is Backus just one of the MANY players that Mayhew considers more valuable to his team than each and every other team would value for their team. Mayhew's list of players that fit this category keeps growing and growing.

I don't like the trade as is. To give up a 5th for an OG 1 year rental is unacceptable. Hopefully the Lions like Sims and have a deal in the works, and then the trade makes sense.

As far as the player I have no clue how good Sims is. I don't have the tape or any info on the guy that I would need to form an evaluation. You're not going to hear very many opinions about specific OGs from me.

The deal is being reported as different now.

They are saying we also gave up DE Rob Henderson for a 7th rounder back from them. He's a guy that was a 6th round pick in 2008 that we had on our PS last year.

^ I like it. Henderson wasn't anything. We basically got Sims for moving down from a 5th to a 7th?

Nvm.. not a Millen pick.

Heres a quick bio

Seahawks acquired DE Robert Henderson from the Lions in exchange for a 2010 seventh-round pick.

A 2008 sixth-round pick by the Giants, Henderson has yet to play in an NFL game and was never overly impressive in college. The Lions look to be getting something for nothing here. He probably wasn't going to make the team.

This one doesn't excite me. The Seahawks have been trying to improve over Sims from the moment they got him in pads. It's kind of sad for the Lions that he is probably a big upgrade. At least the price is right--Henderson wasn't going to make the team and the difference between the talent pool in the 5th and 7th is pretty negligible this year.

I'll give him some B.O.D. because he wasn't fully healed from the torn pec last year (he missed 2008 with it) and because he's a Buckeye from Cleveland. But my expectations for him are pretty low.

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/seahawksblog/2011528682_rob_sims_traded.html

Reached by phone after the trade, Sims first mentioned his feelings about leaving Seattle.

"Of course, I'm going to miss Seattle," he said. "I thought I had a future there, I thought it was where I would play the majority of my career, but now that didn't work out, I'm excited for my new opportunity in Detroit."

Geography is one selling point. Sims will play less than a three-hour drive from where his mother and sister live, something that was important to him. Sims' father, a former NFL player, died four years ago.

There will also be some familiar teammates in Detroit. Julian Peterson, Maurice Morris and Nate Burleson have all gone from Seattle to Detroit since the 2008 season.

We needed a LG and he will do fine im sure. Nothing special but whatever, price was decent and he is a low risk pickup

Im not jumping in the streets but it will do for now

No, we needed an LG pending that Manny Ramirez doesn't come through big this year, and he's already sunk and paid for so he was a total freeroll for us to try and get lucky to solve 1 need in-house before the next draft. We have so few players that give us opportunities to get lucky and the few we have typically get shafted anyhow. This move is just going to take time and opportunity away from him, and that's fine if Sims is good, but it's an extra cost. In a sense we also give up a piece of Manny in the deal too, cause he won't be playing as much. So if say Manny only plays 20% as much as he would have if we didn't add a guard, then we are losing 80% of his USABLE value (for each applicable season), and that is being TRADED away indirectly. So here's to hoping that Sims doesn't suck.

Good deal IMO.

Sims (starting LG) and a 7th for Henderson (Practice squad DE) and a 5th.
