Bears off season plans

With the Bears out of the playoffs and everyone looking towards the draft, what should the Bears plan be?

Who do you want the Bears to take with the 9/10 pick and who will be available?

The Bears look to have approximately $20M to spend under the cap. You figure the resigning of Briggs, Berrian, and Grossman. And we might even see all 3 guys walk. I also imagine that the Bears will cut a few guys...possibilities include: Walker, Archuleta, Muhammad, Miller, Manning Jr.

I think the Bears could live with cutting each and every one of those players but we know they won't.

Either way, I 'd expect the Bears to attempt to resign Briggs. If they know they are going to have trouble I say franchise him and trade him like they could've done last year.

They will probably resign Grossman for around $2-3M, and I think Berrian will be let go.

In Free Agency I'd like the Bears to go after the two Steeler O-Lineman, Faneca at Guard and Sparks at RT. Then go after a RB if possible, Chester Taylor if the Vikings release him, and maybe even a Julius Jones or Michael Turner.

In the draft I still think the Bears need to go with a QB in the first round. Just don't let him wear the number 8. In the second round go after a WR. With the two picks in the 3rd round I think the Bears should go after OL. With the rest of the draft pick up another WR and patch up the secondary a bit.

Odds are, I will change my opinions at least 30 times in the next few months.

Take an offensive lineman in the first round. A defensive player in the 2nd round. A Wide Receiver in the 3rd round or maybe QB Joe Flacco if we can't get a QB in a trade and assuming we get rid of Grossman this offseason.

A QB I see being taken in the first three rounds, along with an offensive lineman and a safety.

Like to keep the receiving core as is, although Muhammed is expendable in my mind. Bradley is capable of dropping passes and blowing routes like Muhammed is.

I think the running back situation will deal with the severity of Benson's injury, although seeing Michael Turner in the a Bears uni would be nice.

The o-line needs serious addressing, and that's where free agency should be targeted. That and the secondary.

And of course, get an new offensive coordinator. There's a lot of guys on this offense that have the possibility of being explosive and difference makers. Find someone who is capable of allowing that to happen.

The only problem I see with this is that Angelo doesn't know how to evaluate QB's. At least if he takes one of the top 3 he might have a chance.

I don't like our receivers, Berrian is as lazy as it gets. Muhammad is old, slow, drops passes, etc. I just don't see a drop off between our receivers now and guys we could get cheap via free agency, trade, or in the draft.

that's fine, but you have to give him something to work with. like a qb, rb, wrs, and a OL.

But Angelo does have a knack for middle round picks. He may have butchered the first rounds in recent years, but he finds a lot of talent in the middle to late rounds.

That's why you draft a Safety in the middle rounds. Angelo hasn't drafted Shiyt for offense in any round. Bradley in the 2nd, Wolfe in the 3rd, Benson in the 1st, Grossman, Orton in the 3rd, etc. Angelo, and his scouts, obviously have no idea what an offensive player looks like.

Jerry hasn't butchered the first few picks in the past two drafts. Olsen looks hella good and Hester is the best at his position ever.

Rex was a 1st rd draft pick, not a 3rd rounder

If available, I think the Bears need to take Kenny Phillips. He seems like a sure thing, and would set us up at safety for a while.

In recent years, QBs have slipped in the first round, and if it happens again, the Bears might be able to trade up in the first round again, and grab one of the fallen QBs, ala Cleveland Browns. I know this is risky, but passing on a guy like Kenny Phillips is pretty risky too.

I would like to get an O-liner in the first day as well, but try to rebuild the O-line and grab a running back from free agency.

I have no idea how to address the wide reciever issue though. We just have too many holes to fill this year.

Running back isn't as pressing a need as a lot of people think it is, in my mind. Those who say that running back is the biggest need aren't smart enough people to realize that a running back can only be as good as his offensive line.

A QB
A Safety
A WR

RB should be far down the list, because no one is going to run the ball well behind the 5 uglies that have suited up this year.

Has anyone seen a positive running play on the side of Garza-Miller? I haven't yet.

If you look at this video of Benson at Texas you can clearly see the reason he gets separation and long runs is becuase of the offensive line creating holes. Our line does not do that.

Hey you know if Chester Taylor and AD can't coexist, I wouldn't mind getting Chester Taylor.
