Dwayne Jones

Post#1 » by garyb916 » Tue Apr 6, 2010 6:32 pm

The D-League's leading rebounder (16 per) and a pretty decent scorer too. Let's hope he wants to show the world that he can play in the NBA and kick some ass for us.

How are you guys seeing him fitting into the rotation?

No way he'll play an important role. He is here just for insurance reasons.
But something in me says he is going to save us a big game, like coming of the bench because of foul trouble and have 15-10 game...you need guys like that to be successful in the playoffs.

No matter what: I kinda like this guys potential and game.

I'm not buying that whole "he's insurance, maybe he won't play at all" stuff from Kerr. I mean, how terrible Jones must be to be worse than Collins. I'm not buying that "we have rotation set" stuff too, what set rotation, Collins played in like 10 games last 2 months and 200 minutes total this season and have been playing some serious crap.

Dwayne Jones, you better listen to me - if you won't be able to contribute more than Collins that means you suck at basketball and better start looking for a job.

I wanna see this guy get some minutes. I know we have the Spurs tomorrow so Gentry may get nervous and stick to a rotation he's used to, but I hope in one of the next few games we see 15 minutes out of him. Not just to see if he could help in the playoffs (because I'm hoping we get Lopez back), but to see if he could be a value guy for us next season. There has been some hype behind him in the past so he's one of those guys that COULD always surprise.

Yeah I was one of those who was hyping Collins the most, I think you even were at one point, but he's shown that regardless of his basketball background and the Collins twins' savvy, he just doesn't have enough left in the tank to transfer that to an NBA court. I hope this isn't premature but it just looks like he knows where to be and what to do but can't quite do it.

I think he's still good, especially for playoffs, to come in, tangle up with somebody and pretend he's being fouled or grab an offensive rebound, in a playoff game it could make a difference, but he's just not even 10 mpg player.

With Lopez out I can't imagine Collins starting ahead of Jones, if the guy can actually move he just cannot be worse than Collins. Only thing Collins can do is draw a foul or rebound at pretty solid rate, Jones seems to be outstanding rebounder so if he's able to do anything more than that, he should be major upgrade over old Jarron.

Don*t get to hyped up about Jones. There is a reason that he spent the whole season at the developmental league!

I'm not getting hyped on Dwayne Jones, I'm only saying how bad Jarron Collins is.

Looking at one season when Jones played some games and minutes (with Cavs), his rebound rates were 16% on offense and 18% on defense, Amare has 9% and 19% this year. So what I'm saying is that he can rebound and if he can add ANYTHING to it, he should be better than Collins.

I say start him over Collins. He is a Lopez type of player (rebounding/blocks) and is young, quick and athletic. Collins slow pace killed us in the 1st quarter against the Bucks, so why not go back to what was working all season long with Lopez!

He couldnt be any worse then what Collins has been giving us, and from what i have seen of the D-League players that are currently on NBA teams, they are working their asses off to show why they should be in the NBA.

Nash/Jrich/Hill/Amare/Jones is how we should start until Lopez is back.

Don't get it wrong. I am not high on Collins. But people always overlook the intangibles players like him bring onto the table. Their positive nature, their acceptance of a minimal role, the charges that they take... players like Jones have to prove that. There is a reason why Collins has been in the NBA for years and Jones was not!

There is no way we can tell how good Dwayne Jones will be until we see him play, but if he doesn't get some game time to prove himself in upcoming games ,while Lopez is out, there is really no reason to have picked him up.

Apparently, he had a light practice with the team yesterday for the first time.

After doing nothing but rest since a bulging disk was discovered in his back, center Robin Lopez was on the floor during a light workout Monday and was to do his first rehabilitation work afterward.

"Today was the first day. It was good," Lopez said, but he was non-committal on whether he'll be back by the playoffs.

"I don't know. We'll see," he said. "I can't really say anything about my timetable. It differs from person to person."

Well It doesn't look really good. If he was getting back by Playoffs time he would sound a bit more confident, wouldn't he?

They said he's been improving, and began rehab yesterday. They'll reassess on Monday and see where he's at.

No way he'll be 100%.

Sorry, but given the Suns' history of injuries and suspensions prior or within the playoffs , he won't be a big help

I dunno, he's a young resilient guy. We'll have to see. Can't say for certain either way because we have simply no idea about what's really going on.
