Random questions:

Does Rose's PER post All-Star game, place him in the elite catagory? I have a very limited understanding of PER - at least how it is calculated - but based on Hollinger's rankings, a 21-22 PER places Rose in top 20-25 range, next to guys like Nash, Deron, Boozer, and Roy.

1. How accurate of a measure of value per minute is the PER ranking?

2. Does his PER, post ALl-Star game, indicate that he is an elite contributer? Or are there other variables hindering others in that range or proping Rose into said range?

3. Is it reasonable to expect his PER to stay at that level, and even improve, for an entire season? Or is his recent peak in PER a measurement of a hot streak?

EDIT: His recent PER actually places him top 16-17 and ABOVE the listed players.

How are you all doing the PER calculation?

Did your girlfriend tell you not to like Derrick Rose anymore? haha jk but seriously you have been down on Rose all night. I understand his performance tonight was underwhelming but this happens to young guys sometimes.

naw, im still a big fan of rose, but he really let me down tonight. id much rather see 2-30 than 5-12 or whatever it was (assuming obviously that both resulted in losses). im just not going to let myself get let down by this team this year. theres more fun and exciting things to do now than watch a team led by someone who has all the talent and skill, but doesnt know how to use it. my friends dad has said it best

"Rose has no idea how good he really is. One of these days he's going to realize it and its going to be incredible to watch"

with the sox looking so good to start this year, I cant make myself try and watch a team that is going to struggle to beat the possibly boshless raptors for a date with lebron.

and i think i'm going to sig that quote from your friends dad..lol

I think your really over exaggerating Rose's bad game. Saying things like "[Rose] doesn't want to be a leader" and that he doesn't know how to use his skills. this game reminds me a lot about game 7 Lakers vs Suns back in 2006. The Lakers got blown out and Kobe only shot 16 times. In the end there are only so many things a great player can do with an awful supporting cast. Both Kobe and Rose were be consistently doubled and tripled teamed. The both set up their teammates with open shots but their teammates couldn't perform. Basically what I'm trying to say is Rose did what he could. This game in no way should affect Rose's status as a franchise player and the loss was not his fault.

Analysis fail. Rose was being doubled and tripled all night. Skiles zoned the lane with up to 4 defenders and forced Derrick to give the ball up and dared the other Bulls to beat him. Kirk (mostly) and Deng as well let Derrick down big time. Vinny didn't help much either, because he never does because he's a dreadful coach.

it is a testament to rose's game that he managed double digit assists last night despite the putrid offensive performance by the bulls. first and foremost, he is a point guard, not a scorer, and last night was evidence of just how good of a PG he can be. as stated, he was getting triple teams thrown at him and the fact that he was able to take advantage was great.

the problem was when the bulls stopped hitting their shots. Kirk shooting 20% is unacceptable and his "all world" defense on Salmons is why we lost. Stop blaming Rose for everything because he damn sure did his job (running the offense and racking up assists).

Updated graphs. I'm on vacation for the next 10 days, so I won't be updating the graphs. I'll update the rest, though.
