The road to football world cup 2010 thread

Post#1 » by Slava » Thu Mar 4, 2010 9:45 am

Official Website: http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/

With 98 days to go for the world cup 2010 I thought its time to get warmed up and start discussing the groups, provisional squad announcements and important friendlies before the big event.

Well, now that we're at it, did anyone see the Rooney, Crouch "bicycle kick" performance against Egypt?

Why didn't FIFA ban the vuvuzela crap?

GERMANY: our team shape is crappy as always before a WC, guess it is a good sign? *Knock on wood*

* GOALKEEPER: Our #1 goalie Rene Adler sucks donkey balls atm, and Löw does not trust Neuer or Wiese
* CENTER DEFENSE: Boateng and Mertesacker have been stinking it up lately, and Westermann has not played in the center for AGES
* WING DEFENSE: Lahm is the only guy playing well. Jansen is badly injured, and all the others have fallen off drastically.
* CENTER MIDFIELD: Ballack has been on and off for Chelsea, Schweinsteiger is ok, but then? Frings is blackballed, Rolfes is injured, and Khedira is only so so.
* WING MIDFIELD: Özil has dropped off like a rock, and Marin is strong at Werder but inconsistent in the national team. Neither Kroos nor Müller seem adequate replacements yet.
* ATTACK: Klose and Podolski have been HORRIBLE in their clubs, but play well in the national team. Gomez and Kiessling are injured, Cacau is inconsistent and the by far best striker atm (Kuranyi) is blackballed.

Nothing is going right atm. Guess that is great news? *Knock on wood again*

Greece is a massive question mark in this almost carbon copy group of our first (and previously only World Cup trip) in '94.

It's not known now if King Otto will retire after all. Rumors are he may sign an extension that runs through Euro 2012 seeing as our group for that tourney is quite favorable.

I wonder if Ronaldo has any chance of making the Brazil squad.

Not when your captain just screwed up the team's chemistry by banging teammate's woman.
Plus, Beckham was doing well at Milan surprisingly.

When they play in big tournaments England get nervous and when they get nervous they play like a long ball side. Beckham is the perfect man for that kind of game.

Beckham out for England is a blow, he was doing well in Milan asn Adam says, and he brings a balance and veteren knowledge to the team when they certainly need it. Lost a big play maker and a x-factor in that team in Beckham.

True, and he would end his career the way it deserves.

At least Adler isn't older than dirt and the slowest person in the stadium like Lehmann was two years ago. Merte will be back to doing his thing come tourney time and we've got a few options to pair with him and Lahm. I actually feel pretty damn good about this team. Like every year I'm going to pick us to win, then make money betting on us all tournament long only to lose it all in the finals or semis. Hopefully we actually win it this year instead of just shocking everyone by making it to the final 4 or beyond.

Ümit Davala should be in there.
