List your Blue Jays' batting order

Post#1 » by YogiStewart » Mon Apr 5, 2010 12:44 pm

I don't agree with Cito's reasoning behind our start-of-the-season batting order.
what is your proposed opening-day batting order? or do you agree with what Cito's doing?

We really don't have a proper lead off type guy. I think Cito's is pretty decent, although I'd put Travis a bit higher at the 6 spot.

1. Jose Bautista, 3B
2. Aaron Hill, 2B
3. Adam Lind, DH
4. Vernon Wells, CF
5. Lyle Overbay, 1B
6. Travis Snider, LF
7. Edwin Encarnacion, 3B
8. Alex Gonzalez, SS
9. John Buck, C

Bautista
Hill
Lind
Wells
Overbay
Encarnacion
Snider
Buck
Gonzalez

Snider shouldn't be batting ninth IMHO and hopefully will wor his way higher in the order but that is where I'd start it. Bautista is our leadoff guy by default although he does have decent OBP. I would probably prefer Wells lower in the lineup as well to maybe take some pressure off of him. I think he will bounce back a bit this year but batting cleanup is a dangerous slot for him because he strikes out a lot.

Has anyone noticed Bautista's OPS against RHP? Sub .700 for his last 3 years combined. That's the most absurd lead-off man I've ever seen:

Bautista/Overbay (LHP/RHP)
Hill
Lind
Wells
Snider
Encarnacion
Ruiz
Buck
Gonzalez

This makes for a horrifying outfield against RHP (Lind/Wells/Snider), but I can't think of a better option.

Ideally

Bautista
Overbay(best OBP guy on the team)
Lind(best hitter, doesn't want to hit cleanup)
Hill(the only choice really)
Snider
Vernon
E5
Buck
Gonzalez

Would like to see Ruiz get regular at bats considering the power he showed last season.

Did Lind really say that? I think he's the ideal choice for clean-up. Forget going by the book, this is a lost year anyway so I am gonna switch things up. Wells has lost alot of his power but still makes fairly good contact so I would move him up in the lineup, it's seems like he gets the clean up by deafult (or by contract), he's faster than Hill anyway and it gives Hill potentially more runners to hit in. I think it's best to keep Snider near the bottom of the lineup and make him prove he is worthy of better.

Bautista
Wells
Hill
Lind
Overbay
Encarnan.
Snider
Buck
Gonzo.

A few weeks ago, I was thinking we should start Ruiz at 1st/DH, and bat him 4th(call me crazy):

1) CF: Wells
2) 2B: Hill
3) DH/LF: Lind
4) 1B/DH: Ruiz
5) 3B: Encarnacion
6) LF/RF: Snider
7) RF/1B: Bautista
8) SS: Gonzalez
9) C: Buck/Molina

If that didn't work out, then I would try

1) RF/1B: Bautista
2) 2B: Hill
3) DH/LF: Lind
4) 1B/DH: Ruiz
5) CF: Wells
6) LF/RF: Snider
7) 3B: Encarnacion
9) SS: Gonzalez
9) C: Buck/Molina

Anything that doesn't involve John Buck batting #6.

And I'd be happy if I never see Johnny Mac at the plate again.

I like our current one but John Buck should definitely be moved to the bottom of the order

id also like to see Travis Snider moved up once he gets a little more used to the Big leagues, i have the feeling this kids goin to break out this year

Snider maybe towards the end of the year can move up to say 7th but I like having him at 9 to start a little bit of a run for us and maybe knock in a few runs in the end but I think a balanced line up is the best attack. Then again if he gets hot bump him up to 6-7th and slide everyone down but dont have the catcher hit 9th. 8th because if he gets on you almost have the top of your line up coming on again starting the 9th spot.
