Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Mathews won't be in the 2nd and Jackson won't be there in the 3rd... and even if he is, I really don't think Kareem Jackson fits our system. He's more of a zone CB and we need physical CB's ala Chris Cook or Amari Speivey.
This would be my realistic ideal start:
Suh
Best
Cook / Spievey / or that Georgie safety
Shipley
All are needs that are being answered... but honestly, as long as holes are being filled, I don't think we can go wrong. A hole is a hole no matter how or when you fill it.

Not sure I like Best in the 2nd.
He definitely has the talent and speed, but if he can't stay healthy in college ball, with his concussion history, then how is he going to fare in the more-physical NFL?

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
He had a nasty concussion on a freak play. Something you see maybe once a lifetime. If he clears out medically, I'm not sure I hold that aginst him as "staying unhealthy in college ball". That is the only time he's missed games due to injury. He had surgery in the offseason to clean his foot, but it was just a routine procedure and it hasn't affected him at all.
TBH, his concussion is the only reason he's not a slam dunk pick for me, but at #34, if he's there, you gotta think he's BPA and in that case, I take him. Concussions are an issue for any player who plays a contact sport. But the NFL is implementing new rules to try and cut down on the amount of concussions suffered.
I dunno, I guess to me, I won't going to a draft taking guys off my board because they might get injured. Isn't that why people didn't want Stafford last year, because he's get sacked and injured? He got injured anyway but it was after spending ten seconds running around the field waiting for a play to develop.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Starting to think we need to get 2 quality CBs from this draft:
1) DT Suh
2) CB McCourty
3) CB Ghee or CB Owusu-Ansah
4) RB Tate, McKnight, Hardesty, or Dixon (in order of preference)

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
I think we'll grab an OL in the 3rd or 4th round. Even if someone isn't worth #2, O-line is still a need. Backus, Raiola and Jansen are up there in age and Cherilus still hasn't proven himself.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
If it's a choice between Suh and McCoy, I really hope we pick Suh. I think McCoy will probably be a very good NFL player, but everything I've heard about Suh - his personality, athleticism, and results, have been great. If it's possible to trade down and get extra assets while picking up someone like Okung or Berry, I wouldn't be disappointed in that either. All in all, I think it'll be hard to screw up the pick.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

I've been high on Suh for over a year now. We have a very good chance at getting him. If he's available, he's who I want.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
According to Adam Schefter on ESPN, Bradford is meeting with the Rams today. He wasn't expected to return to St. Louis until a couple days before the draft for his final workout. Schefter also reports that if the Rams won't hesitate to draft Bradford even if they can't get a deal done before the draft.
This is looking real good for us at #2.

Yeah, looks like Vradford #1 is pretty much set. Early visit is likely to start the negotiations....

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
A couple of later-round guys I know the Lions are checking out:
Dennis Landolt, OL, Penn State--G/T tweener with real strong arms but slow feet. Smart, savvy football player with good fight that can play G or RT, has decent potential as a backup swing lineman--which the Lions currently lack. He's a 7th rounder or priority UDFA.
Chris McCoy, LB, MTSU--real big (6'4", 255ish) college DE. Not real fast but very explosive and he hits with authority. He shed blocks nicely in college and made plays in space, but that was in the Sun Belt. Decent candidate for Mr. Irrelevant.
Rafael Priest, CB, TCU--a little on the small side but has great ball skills and doesn't back down. He's kind of yo-yoed in draft stock, on the way back up now after he missed their bowl game with an injury that some (not me!) questioned. 6th-7th rounder.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
I hope it's not a defensive pick. If we draft correctly we won't be able to afford to give play time to that late round pick if he's a defensive pick, that would just be a confirmation that our draft went haywire. I'm hoping our last pick is from either QB/RB/WR/TE/FB/P. Anybody from those positions that you know they might be looking at? Obviously you can scratch off QB since the Lions apparently have no interest in any QBs.

I also feel we should draft from either QB/RB/WR/TE/FB/P that's a good call ,but i think the lions will grab a running back in the second round if they don't trade down in the first to get an RB .
Running back is the lions most important need in this draft.(p.s. trade kevin smith)
Defence Wins Championships,we need to return to the Bad Boy era.

I don't know anything about Priest. Although CB is our biggest need right now. Grabbing a couple in the draft can only help us at this point.

1 week from the big day!
How would you feel about grabbing the best CB around in the second and waiting til the third to grab a RB...maybe someone who slipped or Gerhardt?

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Kowalski on an Mlive video blog said a few interesting things.
Simply put, TK said Mayhew thinks they will now stay at #2. They also haven't decided who they will take at 2 yet (though personally i dont believe him, you cant come out and say we are taking Suh). Mayhew also told him that he definitely wants to upgrade RB, but wouldn't say the same about CB

^ if interested
For me, this sounds like they think it will be Suh at 2, than one of the RBs at the top of the second (though hopefully after a trade down)

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
From what I hear, Killer is right on--they are not moving from #2 and even though nobody will come out and say it, Suh will be the pick.
#34 is definitely up for grabs, but so is pretty much every other pick between 25-40. I've talked to a couple of people who believe every single one of those picks will be traded. It wouldn't surprise me if that happened.
I'm not a fan of any of the RBs at #34. It's not going to get Mathews or Spiller and it's too high for Best or Gerhart or probably even McCluster, though if they took him at 34 or 40 I wouldn't object. I would use that pick on the BPA from the remaining CB/OL/LB. Could be Weatherspoon, could be McCourty, could be Jackson, could be Saffold, could be Iupati (who is indeed sliding...and for a reason--he holds too much), maybe Eric Norwood or Sergio Kindle.
TSE--I doubt they draft a QB but they will definitely sign a priority UDFA right away, and if it's the name I heard yesterday he should be able to beat out Stanton for the #3 job. If he can't it proves why he wasn't drafted.
