Kings pick up 11-12 Option for Westphal

Post#1 » by KingInExile » Mon Apr 12, 2010 11:22 pm

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP)—The Sacramento Kings have picked up the option on the contract of coach Paul Westphal for the 2011-12 season.

Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie made the announcement Monday before the team played its final home game of the season against Houston.

The Kings are 25-55 with two games remaining in Westphal’s first season as coach. That’s tied with Golden State and Washington for the third-worst record in the NBA, but an improvement over last year’s 17-win season.

Some good news going into the summer...news that IMO sends a strong signal of stability to free agents that Petrie could go after.

good decision. Lineups should be a lot more stable and concrete next season as well.

Finally some stability going into a summer, and I sincerely think Westphal is a good coach anyway.

Smart choice to do this now. It expresses confidence in the coach and lets all of the players in free agency know that the kings are excited about their choice of coach and that they think he could be around for a while.

showing confidence in their coach should lead to the players having more confidence in their coach which should lead to Westphal getting more out of his players.

Easiest move to improve that the team has made in a long time

And of course, our old friend Vision thinks the Kings are being rash/foolish in picking this up. Has there ever been a move made that didn't displease her? She was the most upset when we didn't take Tyreke... -_-

I think you mean Rubio, not Tyreke.

Anyone who cannot see the logic of going into one of the most FA active summers with a demonstration that the team has a stable coaching seat (versus the turnstile from the last few years) is just blind. This further demonstrates that she lacks the capacity for basic critical thinking.

I think she is still hired because we are talking about her...not that a newspaper should operate that way but the Sac Bee has never been one for ethics.

I've got an extension for Kayte Christensen, if you know what I mean.

But hooray for coach stability!

I always thought Westphal was a good quality coach. He is the perfect coach for this team going into the future as well as developing Evans. He will do what Doug Collins did for MJ.

I just hope the Kings don't play Landry at the 5 again all next season. He is a true 4. They need to trade Hawes or Thompson with Nocioni and a get a consistent 5 guy who is the perfect compliment inside to Landry's game, hopefully a Kendrick Perkins type player.

The Kings are in good shape.

If the kings could get some size we wouldn't have to play Landry at C. We pretty much had one center on our roster last year, and when he went down, we didn't have a true Center. Some might even say Hawes is a Center. So you could say we didn't have a Center at all.
