Here come the Lakers. Official Shock the World Thread!

Post#1 » by slick_watts » Tue Apr 13, 2010 5:15 am

So after yet another disappointing effort looks like it'll be the Lakers.

Can't say I'm surprised.

If Bynum plays I'm not convinced we'll win a game. If Bynum doesn't play, or is ineffective, we might steal one or two.

I'd put the odds of us winning this series at less than 10%.

Thoughts? Will Westbrook continue to fare well against the Lakers? Will the Lakers stick Kobe on him to slow him down? Will Thabo finally earn his paycheck? Will our front line come out of this alive? Will Kevin Durant show his mettle against one of his toughest defenders? Will Scott Brooks implement a crunch time offense that consists of more than 'give ball to Durant, watch'?

 I like the thread title.

My thoughts on this series is simple. Our only chance in this series is if Bynum doesn't play and if Westbrook shows poise beyond his years and plays lights out. I'm not holding my breath. Also Durant is going to get pounded by Artest and its going to be interesting to see how Durant responds.

I have very low expectations for this series with how we have played lately, but I still and semi excited to see how the players respond and see who has heart and who doesn't.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Bynum is playing and he just said today he's feeling no pain in his Achilles tendon. This will be a tough series for us no doubt, our key will be to contain Durant. Westbrook will have his way with Fish, but maybe Shannon Brown can make him work.

See you guys Sunday !

Laker fan here. Your team scares me. You got 2 of the bright young players in the league in Durant and Westbrook. Lakers have a hard time defending any point guard that is fast. Fisher is not a lock down man and Westbrook will have his way. Lakers also can not defend the 3 very well. Durant stay out there, he could get a lot of points. Kobe just looks tired. Should be a good series. Congrats on making the post season and we shall see what happens.

I think OKC takes a game or two when they play at the Ford but other than that, I think the Lakers got this series. Durant and Co. wont make it easy for them tho.

Miami Heat fan that lives in LA,

First and foremost I LOVE the Thunder, and I am telling you the Laker fans are terrified of your team, and with good reason. I am so excited for your team. Shake the world up, u dont have to worry about Artest, Artest has to worry about you!

Can't wait to watch my favorite player, this is the perfect series to test him. As a Rockets fan, I'm assuming Ron will be guarding Durant? Ron's physically a good defender, but he's unable to keep up with players with quick feet (example: Ron on Roy '09 playoffs). I'd rather have Kobe on him, but Durant's height is a huge advantage either way.

I wouldn't worry about KD doing his thing scoring the ball, but IMO Westbrook is the main match-up to utilize, similarly to how the Rockets used Aaron Brooks to pick apart the Lakers defense last season. IMHO it comes down to the front-court, are the Thunder's small perimeter advantages good enough to overcome the Lakers front-court depth? LA just has a lot of firepower, but we'll see what happens, it's definitely a series that's win-able, but it just depends on how the Thunder utilize their offense.

Lol. You don't speak for Lakerfan, Heatfan. No disrespect to the Thunder, but they've just managed to win their first game against the Lakers recently. How are you going to be terrified of that as the team that won a championship?

Because I live with two die lakerfans, and they said it, OK has all the tangibles that could beat the Lakers if they string it together, They also said especially because the way the Lakers have been riding there high from last year championship and not puting the fear into teams like they were expected to do, they are worried. I do like the Lakers, but this season should have been dominated by them and it hasnt. OK have nothing to lose and everything to gain. They should be terrified ask Dallas!

This series will be fun... KD will get his points but Ron Ron will make him work... LO has the length to make Green's life tuff... Westbrook is the key in my opinion... We can't guard point guards... We need Shannon to step up and make him work... If we stay disciplined and feed Gasol (7'0") & Bynum (7'1") we should be alright as your are soft in the middle... I wanted Portland as I really like your squad and would root for you... Congrats on making the playoffs and this should be a interesting series to watch... KD, Westbrook & Green are a solid foundation...

With all do respect your friends are a couple of fruity pansies. They wet the bed. They told me.

Now, there is absolutely nothing that concerns LA about the Thunder. Nothing at all. When talking about the Thunder, you are talking about an inexperienced team with zero inside presence, fail to execute games properly down the stretch and blow leads against lottery bound teams. Going into the playoffs they aren't exactly carrying a big deal of momentum, either. Their supposed super star player in Kevin Durant, well, he has absolutely been lights out scoring this year no doubt it, however, he is no closer and his play in pressure situations leads me to wonder whether my boots will be shaking. This team is young with spunk but they have too many of weakness' and areas that can be exploited. The story of all young talented teams it seems.

To think such supposed die hard Lakers fans would speak such blasphemy. Ignore him cookies of Oklahoma, the nutty heat fan doesn't know what he's talking about.

Regardless, congrats on making the playoffs for the first time ever Thunder fans. I wish you the best of luck. Lord knows you'll need it. Whether victorious or not, facing a championship caliber team will give you guys a measuring stick on where you are, and where the team is headed into next season. That said, I expect the Thunder to give it hell knowing that they will be heavy underdogs going in, being young, talented, etc. I expect a fight. However prepare to be murdered, skinned, cleaned, seasoned and eaten alive. Luck to you all.
