Wolves Sign Greg Stiemsma....

Former Wisconsin Badger Greg Stiemsma has been called up the Minnesota Timberwolves according to agent Mike Naiditch. This move also likely locks him up for the NBA Summer League schedule as well as next season's preseason roster.

The 6-foot-11 Sioux Falls Skyforce center averaged 8.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.6 blocks during the D-League's regular season while averaging a little over 30 minutes of playing time. Stiemsma came up with a much more impressive playoff performance, though, by averaging 15 points, 10.7 rebounds and and 4.3 blocks while shooting 58% from the field in three games for Sioux Falls before his team ultimately lost their first round series to the Tulsa 66ers.

The Timberwolves Director of Pro Player Personnel, Jerry Sichting, was in attendance for Stiemsma's second game of the series when he scored 24 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and swatted eight shots in a 106-99 Skyforce victory while matched up with Byron Mullens, the Oklahoma City Thunder's first round draft pick. He then traveled to Minneapolis for a workout on Saturday before returning to Sioux Falls for their final game of the season.

Steinsma's agent tells us tonight that the contract will be signed before the Wolves play their final game of the season Wednesday at home against Detroit.

He'll likely suit up for that game, and be with the Wolves for their summer league team.

Can't be worse than Jawai or Pecherov. At least he plays defense.

Yeah, he can't be worse than them but Jawai and Pecherov shouldn't be in the league either.

Yeah we should figure out who else this agent represents...Lebron, Wade, Carmello...

or maybe Rubio asked Kahn to sign Greg, Rubio is a huge fan of his, and actually has followed Greg Stiensma college career very closely. Has posters of Greg's throughout his bedroom.

It was done so we'd have "rights" to him for the Summer League, before anyone else could grab him. Basically just calling first dibs on looking at him.

Pretty sweet, seriously he can't be worse then Hollins. At least he can block a damn shot and grab a rebound.

No, they want a free look from a top shot-blocker with some other good skills. He was averaging 4.5 blocks a game and was a top call-up candidate early in the season until he got hurt and missed the D-League Showcase. The new trend with NBA teams is to sign a D-League player or free agent with a non-guaranteed contract for next year so they get a summer league look. I was contacted about this move 8 days ago, and fully supported it.

mnWI, do you see him maybe taking Hollins place? Obviously at this point we are totally glutted with out front court. But basically I see our top 3 big men spots going to (being unspecific); Jefferson, Love, Darko, Pekovic or someone better than them (Favors ect...). At our 4th big man spot I don't see anyone at that talent level being on our team and satisfied with that role. So that leaves Hollins or someone in that mold, could Stiensma be that guy?

Now he can go back to his college teammate Alando Tucker and tell him that "the second worst team in the NBA dumped you from their roster to pick up me."

I think he could easily take Hollins place as a fourth big. If Darko signs, we would always have a shot blocker on the court. Things will change if we trade jefferson or love or select favors or sanders (later), but easily right now he is our 4th best big.

trying not to pigeon hold white players as similar to other white players, but he does seem to be a Przybilla type.

The tiny mohawk makes me think he has a little Chris Anderson just waiting to BUST out.

He's also very similar to Wally Szczerbiak. Sort of a Szczerbiak/Steve Blake/Chris Dudley type.

This obviously means that both Al and Love are gone. KG is probably on his way out too.
