Jazzfan mock draft (First round)
Now that the standings are set, I thought a new topic should be made. Structure goes: Pick number. Player (Position, School/Country, Age)
1. Nets: John Wall (PG, Kentucky, 19)
2. Timberwolves: Evan Turner (SG/PG/SF, Ohio State, 21)
3. Kings: DeMarcus Cousins (C/PF, Kentucky, 19)
Kings seem to care a lot more about NBA-readiness than character or need.
4. Warriors: Derrick Favors (PF/C, Georgia Tech, 18)
5. Wizards: Al-Farouq Aminu (PF/SF, Wake Forest, 19)
6. Pistons: Cole Aldrich (C, Kansas, 21)
7. 76ers: Wesley Johnson (SF/SG, Syracuse, 22)
Team despserately needs shooting and is also obessed with small forwards.
8. Jazz (From Knicks): Greg Monroe (C/PF, Georgetown, 20)
Draftexpress says he's 50/50 about declaring, I hope he does declare.
9. Clippers: Xavier Henry (SF/SG, Kansas, 19)
10. Pacers: Ed Davis (PF, North Carolina, 21)
11. Hornets: Ekpe Udoh (PF/C, Baylor, 23)
12. Raptors: Daniel Orton (PF/C, Kentucky, 19)
For whatever reason, GMs love Daniel Orton. I don't get it. Massive injury history, awful college production, questionable intangibles, not that great of athletism or skill, etc. However, they still love him.
13. Grizzlies: Donatas Motiejunas (PF, Lithuania, 19)
To much talent to pass up for the Grizzlies
14. Rockets: Patrick Patterson (PF, Kentucky, 21)
15. Bucks (From Bulls): Jan Vesely (SF/PF, 19)
16. Timberwolves (From Bobcats): Hassan Whiteside (C, Marshall, 21)
17. Bulls (From Bucks): Paul George (SG/SF, Fresno State, 20)
I see George climbing up the draft boards a lot before the draft. Wouldn't be too surprised to see him picked by the Jazz/Clippers at 9.
18. Heat: Eric Bledsoe (Triangle PG, Kentucky, 19)
19. Thunder: Damion James (SF, Texas, 22)
20. Spurs: James Anderson (SG/SF, Oklahoma State, 21)
21. Celtics: Gordon Hayward (SF, Butler, 20)
22. Blazers: Quincy Pondexter (SF, Washington, 22)
23. Timberwolves (From Jazz): Kyle Singler (SF, Duke, 22)
24. Grizzlies (From Nuggets): Elliot Willliams (SG, Memphis, 21)
25. Hawks: Solomon Alabi (C, Florida State, 22)
26. Thunder (From Suns): Devin Ebanks (SF, West Virginia, 20)
27. Nets (From Mavericks): Larry Sanders (PF/C, Virginia Commonwealth, 21)
28. Grizzlies (From Lakers): Avery Bradley (Triangle PG, Texas, 19)
29. Magic: Jordan Crawford (SG, Xavier, 21)
30. Wizards (From Cavaliers): Greivis Vasquez (PG/SG, Maryland, 23)
1. Nets: John Wall (PG, Kentucky, 19)
2. Timberwolves: Evan Turner (SG/PG/SF, Ohio State, 21)

Most Raps fans probably disagree and like Whiteside more at #12, but I would be on board with Orton.

Re: Jazzfan mock draft (First round)
OKC drafting two SFs? I could see them moving up to Pick up Orton. The two SFs would be hardpressed to get any time with Durant, Green and Harden all getting SF minutes. All three are also better players than the picks.
I could see the local ties thing with Washington and Vasquez, but I would be surprised if he goes this early.
Grizzlies with two short shooting guards, to add to OJ Mayo who is also a short SG. I don't think they would pick both players.

Trade S. Jackson soon. NJ seems like a nice place for him.

Re: Jazzfan mock draft (First round)
It's true that neither team fills needs with those, but you don't really draft for need post-20 I would say. The class is so thin at that point, it's almost pointless to do so. Most will bust, so taking similar players doesn't matter too much.

I think either Vesely or Motiejunas (maybe both) is likely to stay with his team. Expect one of them or both to drop significantly unless a team is willing to wait.

I agree with that, but Bucks have picked prospects who were unlikely to play for them right away because of their upside.

Basis?
The only guy with even questionable character that they have drafted is Tyreke, but that was based off of one incident and the franchise was confident that it didn't really reflect on who he is. That wasn't seen as a risk at all.
And Cousins fills the teams needs as much as anybody.

I'm in agreement with you on Paul George, and I love Monroe for the Jazz - I hope that it happens, otherwise I will settle for Johnson (or George).

Vesely is definitely a possibility for the Bucks if he falls that far. He has a staggered buyout based on where he is picked in the draft. Not sure if he would be coming over next year, but I am sure that would be investigated before the pick was made.
Montiejunas doesn't have a buyout in his contract, but NBA teams have been assured that it would be hard to get out of his contract. His current team has some financial issues.

6. 76ers: Wesley Johnson (SF/SG, Syracuse, 22)
I have wonder if Johnson is enough of a Larry Brown player to be picked here, but I don't know which direction he would lean in if not Johnson.
7. Pistons: Cole Aldrich (C, Kansas, 21)
8. Clippers: Ekpe Udoh (PF/C, Baylor, 23)
Changed the Clippers pick since Henry just doesn't have the value to go at 8. Udoh will add needed interior defense.

No. I think he's way too selfish and out of control and a too much of a choker to be a quality point guard.

Re: Jazzfan mock draft (First round)
There is a strong rumor that the Wolves are bringing Pekovic over this year, and want to resign Darko, so I don't expect them to pick two centers with their picks.
I personally think James Anderson will climb, but If available, I think I would take him for the Wolves at #16, even with Turner.

5/23/2010
1. Wizards: John Wall (PG, Kentucky, 19)
2. 76ers: Evan Turner (SG, Ohio State, 21)
I think he'll be traded to the Timberwolves later on.
3. Nets: Derrick Favors (PF/C, Georgia Tech, 18)
4. Timberwolves: DeMarcus Cousins (C/PF, Kentucky, 19)
5. Kings: Cole Aldrich (C, Kansas, 21)
Bit of a reach but Aldrich fills a major need and the Kings have reached a lot in the past.
6. Warriors: Greg Monroe (C/PF, Georgetown, 20)
7. Pistons: Wesley Johnson (SF/SG, Syracuse, 22)
Trade bait.
8. Clippers: Avery Bradley (Triangle PG, Texas, 19)
Perfect PG complement to LeBron.
9. Jazz (From Knicks): Ed Davis (PF/C, North Carolina, 21)
Undersized and injury-prone, but adds needed shot blocking fits the system very well.
10. Pacers: Ekpe Udoh (PF/C, Baylor, 23)
11. Hornets: Al-Farouq Aminu (PF/SF, Wake Forest, 19)
12. Grizzlies: Luke Babbitt (SF/PF, Nevada, 21)
Grizzlies are usually pretty open about how they're going to pick.
13. Raptors: Hassan Whiteside (C/PF, Marshall, 21)
14. Rockets: Paul George (SG/SF, Fresno State, 20)
BPA pick since it will most likely be traded.
15. Bucks (From Bulls): Patrick Patterson (PF, Kentucky, 21)
16. Timberwolves (From Bobcats): Gordon Hayward (SF, Butler, 20)
Pick will most likely be traded and Hayward has the most value of any prospect at this point.
17. Bulls (From Bucks): Xavier Henry (SF/SG, Kansas, 19)
18. Heat: Quincy Pondexter (SF, Washington, 22)
19. Celtics: James Anderson (SG/SF, Oklahoma State, 21)
