I Come in Peace: Tony Gaffney

Post#1 » by Ricky_is_god » Tue Apr 13, 2010 5:02 pm

I'm a Celtics Fan, and I wanted to get some Laker fan opinions on Tony Gaffney. We just signed him to a non-guaranteed for next year, and I read he was your last cut in training camp. From what I can read, people are calling him a homeless-poor man's Tyrus Thomas. Is this accurate? Is there anything else you can add? Does he have a shot at making an NBA roster? Specifically ours? thanks for the help.

Considering two thirds of your team is headed into early retirement home plans next season than mmmm yeah, I guess they'll have to hire some one to play forward. Gaffney's a good start.

The hits just keep on coming. That'll teach me for trying to come onto this board in search of informed and knowledgeable basketball fans. I really should have known better. I know some of you might be, but it never seems to be the ones who respond when an opposing fan comes in here on a good will mission, so its hard to see it. But you're right whatever your name is, posting that rocking chair was a good use of both of our time, thanks.

Lord. I wasn't trying to scare you away or "teach" you any thing. What are we, 3rd graders? Are you not familiar with humor? Is the Boston board lacking in more than one area than we know about? Have a sense of humor for once. I was merely having a friendly back and forth with you. If you go running off now because of what one Laker fan replied with, you'll never receive your food stamps.

This board is littered with knowledgeable fans of the game. While I don't know a whole lot on Gaffney myself, I'm sure if you wait around or come back later, you'll get the answers you seek.

I probably over-reacted a little bit, you're right. My bad on that. I was just looking for some information, not a waste of my time. I don't think you can fault me for that. But I was a little quick on that trigger. One thing I think we can both agree on is that old jokes aside, that is one handsome rocking chair. I'd be glad to have that in my house. /olive branch.

Nobody hear remembers Gaffney?

I remember Gaffney, he definitely has a shot at a legit NBA career. I don't have stats for you but from what i remember in preseason this guy has a decent jumpshot, can rebound and is quick around the rim.

The thing that stood out the most though was his hustle. Granted im sure he was trying to make the squad but our team really rallied around Tony and appreciated his hustle. Since hustle pretty much defines your team (minus sheed) i think he will be a nice fit for you guys.

Not sure where he will fit though, but given a chance dude can play.

Good luck in the playoffs! We still owe you guys one lol :D

He's the 14th man.

Only LA decided to go with 13 and not shell out another 470k (x2 for tax) on a 14th player.

He's a hustle guy, a good defender and hits the blue collar stuff nicely. Might be injury prone, definitely not going to bloom into anything too special, but we've seen a few guys like him come out and stick for a while, so you might be pleasantly surprised.

He is a guy you can find every summer in the pool of players that were not drafted. Those players usually do not make a big splash. He was that player last year and there will be other this summer. He is the kind of player you want to make it. They are fun to watch in the summer league or on preseason games. Beyond that, NBADL or over seas to make money and try to get there game better. Filler for most teams.

Honestly, I've only seen so little of him that I can't really give you an analysis of his game. From what I've seen though, he's better then half our bench

I really like Gaffney, he's atlethic, long for a 6'8" guy but his ball skills are limited. Not say he can't get better. His calling card can be on defense, too many guys come into the league wanting to be scores. Tony can be a 1st team defender.........if he works at it and get a little stronger.

6'8-6'9, 7'2 wingspan. great defensive player, offense is limited, hustles. Still would be a good role player. will be a spark off the bench.

Ricky - Gaffney was a solid player in the time he saw with the Lakers. He has a lot of heart and hustle. He reminds me of a more athletic Luke Walton without the ability to make heady plays.
