Attendance concerns?

Post#1 » by GonzagaLove » Wed Apr 14, 2010 2:25 am

Is there reasons to be concerned for the Jays attendance this season? Following up a near sellout crowd with less then 13,000? Is it just the time of year/day? What are your thoughts/what do you think the season average will be? Also, in terms of cocern, Im talking franchise moving?lossing money (is this even a concern?)

No, it's nothing to be concerned about. None of it is.

Against the CWS. Facing Gavin Floyd. I don't think attendance will be this bad, but it won't be amazing either.

You'll see spikes to 26-34,000 against the Red Sox, and Yankees.
The 2nd game of the season is ALWAYS a horrible turnout. Always.

But, 18-20K/night sounds about right for this season, aside from their Tuesday promotions.

Perhaps it's because even the chair i'm sitting in had zero expectations with the Blue Jays being good going into the season.

I'm placing the over/under at 15k. The dome is gonna be a cavernous, empty place.

I'm pretty sure they canceled toonie Tuesdays :(... Along with that, does anyone else think the Jays are really lacking in the Promotions department?

They've cracked the roof open really early this season. I guess that's a way to get more assses in seats because it's 100x better to see a game there with the roof open.

Bout time the Jays start putting out Expos attendances. That'll get Rogers pissed enough to demand change in how baseball is run. The City of Toronto is not interested in simply watching baseball and not actually competing.

from the recap of the White Sox game:

One night after a stadium-low crowd of 10,610 watched an 11-1 loss, attendance rose slightly to 10,744 for the series finale.

Im worried about how ownership will take this. They are committed to this rebuilding team, but will they take more than 2 years of this?

This is no different than any other year (the 2-3 games after the home opener tend to draw the worst in most ballparks). Also, starting last year, they began counting the attendance differently than in the past.

Apparently they are having smaller crowds all over the league. I just don't think people are really ready for baseball at this time of year.

When you see tiny crowds in places like Baltimore and Cleveland it makes you less worried about the small crowds here.

Yea the numbers are pretty bad all over. And given that the White Sox are supposed to contend for a playoff spot, they're not doing that much better than us.

Yeah I went last night and you could here a pin drop. The most noise the crowd made was when a fan went sprinting into one of the closed sections to get a foul ball and of course when they booed Rios. It was a nice thursday night with the dome open (which of course you don't see that often in April) so I was suprised at such a small crowd but I guess the NHL playoffs has alot to do with that.
