Build a Team 1995 Discussion Thread

Post#1 » by Snakebites » Thu Apr 15, 2010 10:40 pm

After discussions with several board regulars we have finally settled on the next game idea, Build a Team 1995.

Simple rules for those of you familiar with ATL and Build a Team format. 12-16 teams (depending on interest), ABBA draft order (subject to possible modification if a case is presented).

All players who played at least 50 games in the 1994-95 season are eligible to be selected, and players will be evaluated completely based on their performances in that season (with the exception of intangibles like clutch reputation). No salary or division restrictions.

1995 rules.

Confirmed players:

I am in

I assume that when you say "players will be evaluated completely based on their performances in that season (with the exception of intangibles like clutch reputation)" you mean reputation pre 1995

^Yes.

If a player has a great playoff performance on their record before those years it can be asserted that they could do it in a playoff setting in these games.

But yeah, young folk have to be evaluated as the raw talent they are, and older players have to be considered for whatever they have left at this stage in their career.

I expect Penbeast and Warspite will also want to sign up since they were in on the discussion of this idea along with you and I, but I don't want to speak for anybody.

Interesting way to eliminate the Jordan factor.

Did you guys sort of do a quick and dirty list of power rankings? I'd be curious to see if you think the league is deep enough for a 16th picking team to compete with the Hakeems and DRobs of the league.

It may not be 16 teams, and the draft ordering is still open for discussion. I actually doubt we'll run with any more than 12 teams.

And I do think there is a fairly impressive amount of talent in that season. I'm starting to wonder if 60 games is too harsh, though. I've looked through and there are a few interesting players that excludes. Thoughts?

Honestly, I think 42 and above should be allowed.

Just realized I didn't explicitly say I'm in.

Nope. Nor did you imply it. All you did is suggest that the idea may be flawed.

But now you have. :)

We've got 8 signups now. I guess we're rolling with 12, and I'd like to reserve spots for Pen and War, as they had input on the idea.

Terrific.

Only 3 more spots, though Warspite has one reserved that he can decline if he wishes, so really only 2 more open spots.

Just so you know, there will likely be a 6hr clock (excluding nighttime/early morning) on these picks, so you need to commit to being active and be willing to leave a list with other participants if you are going to be gone.

You still want in?

1995 is maybe the most offensively challenged yr in the history of basketball. It was so bad that they moved the 3pt line in because nobody could shoot. I spent hours at the United Center watching these losers build not just a house but an entire community of bricks.

Its rumored the Bulls bench players lost $1000s of dollars playing HORSE to maintenance employees. At least thats how I made my rent.

Yeah Im in for this bricklayers convention.
