Rockets looking at Brad Miller?

Adding another face familiar to Martin might not hurt, either. Sources close to the Rockets say Houston will pursue former Kings and current Chicago center Brad Miller on the free agent market. The 12-year veteran who played with Martin from 2004 to 2009 was one of Martin's staunchest supporters during their time together, and their chemistry in running Adelman's respected system could add yet another offensive dimension to the Rockets' plan.

Which makes alot of sense because Morey said he's looking to add another big.

With Yao Ming back next year, it is a situation where early on he’s not going to come out playing 40 minutes the first night. So we do feel at the big spot, even with Luis, even with Yao Ming, even with the guys who have potential like Jordan Hill and even guys we have a lot of faith in like Chuck Hayes and with depth like David Andersen, I do feel like there’s the potential to add someone there who could play maybe more minutes than you might expect early because I think Yao Ming is going to have to work his way back in to playing high minutes.

I would not hesitate to give Miller half of the MLE for two years. (3 million per year for 2 years). I don't see how the Bulls can match that.

If Morey is really looking to add someone like Brad Miller, that means management has absolutely NO faith in David Andersen. Getting Miller would effectively spell the end for Damage Assessment.

Miller and Andersen have a very similar skill set, only that Miller is better in just about every way imaginable. What's scary is that even at the age of 35(?) Miller is still the superior rebounder/defender.

Andersen is pretty bad, but then he at least gives the team another dimension.
Do you really want Brad Miller to play second unit run&gun with Lowry, Bud/Brooks, Ariza/Battier & Hill/Scola/Hayes? I don't think I would.
Now he might be a a good fit with the first unit, but then even if Yao will miss a few games, I'd be ok with Hayes or Hill filling in for a few games here and there.

Felton will get more than the MLE. Blake sucks. No need for Ridnour. Livingston would be a nice 3rd string, but he'll go somewhere he actually gets to play.

Daniels is always injured. Stevensen sucks. No need for Butler.

Amundson is a PF/C. No need for Mason or Korver

Williams is a nice 12th man. Warrick sucks. I like Haslem. Mahinmi is an interesting prospect.

Not a big fan of Miller. Thomas is a nice 12th man. Darko is ok if you give him consistent pt, which he won't get here. Have only seen 3 Barron games this year but he didn't look any special.

Miller is good. He's still capable of solid play. It's not a coincidence he went off on us this year. He can defend other bigs and help protect the paint (somewhat), something that we sorely missed this year. I wouldn't mind picking up Thomas either because he brings the more defense to the table at the expense of offense, which Miller would bring. We will definitely need someone to protect the paint with the way Martin plays D. His defense gave me flashbacks of Tmac, in fact, against Tyreke Evans it was even worse that Tmac's defense.

I'm not a fan of him at all. He's basically David Andersen 2.0. It would be a pointless signing.

I think Miller's savvyness, experience, veteran-presence would be a nice addition for the Rockets. He is one of the better jumpshooting bigs in the L. His passing abilities is still at a high level.

But more importantly, the chemistry between both Martin and Adelman is the underlying factor of why Miller is even mentioned with the Rockets. In the past years with the Kings, both Martin and Miller developed a very good chemistry one another. Miller's passing, literally gave Martin 2-4 free points every game due to his back cuts, low/high cuts, backdoor, lobs, lock n' go's and etc. And under Adelman's system, both Martin and Miller are perfect fits in this system.

Plus, he is a great mentor for young bigman. He develop very good relationships from other young bigs i.e. Noah, Thompson, Hawes, Gibson. So, a guy like Hill would benefit Miller's presence.

I think it would be wise for the Rockets to nab Miller in the offseason.

Wait, the lower-tier free agents don't excite you? Huh, never would've figured...

Never claimed this was a "big signing" list, just some decent role-players we could go after.

i wouldnt mind him, but only if we cant find a DEFENSIVE CENTER that has size to backup yao. offense wont be a problem for at least 2 more years w/ this team. brad miller isnt a slouch on defense tho, great post defense, but still someone who can man the paint, block shots, change shots, is more needed than an offensive big. but if there's nothing we can get, miller can be huge for this team

He isn't a great post defender. He is barely average from the last time I seen from Miller. The only thing he does on an above average level (post defense) is denying/stealing post entry passes. When in Sacramento, he usually does this a lot. And he does this as well with Chicago.

Again, I think bringing in Miller space the floor a lot. Guys like Ariza, Brooks and Martin will greatly benefit this.

Signing Miller sounds decent but I don't remember him actively blocking shots.

By signing him, i see David Anderson packing his bags. They seem to bring a similar game except Miller does his job better. At best, HALF THE MLE for Miller.

i still wonder how he got undrafted... was it because of the lockout in 1998?

Wouldn't mind him coming here on a small deal worth about $2 million...maybe $3 million. He's 34 this year and is slowly winding down.

Just gotta make sure he isn't our only addition for the off-season. We need more than Brad Miller.

I have no problem with the idea.

He'll definitely struggle against mobile bigs that Chuck wouldn't struggle with. Brad is one of the least athletic players in the NBA and he's often frustrating to watch because he can't convert around the rim. The only two things he could do are shoot and pass. He would fit into Adelman's system on the offensive end, but I think he'll be more detrimental to the team than beneficial. This team needs an Anderson Varejao type player backing up the pf and center position imo.
