2010 Thread, Cap 56.1 Million: PT2
This is for anything associated with 2010; potential targets, new salary cap info, new players that are entering the 2010 race etc. Try and keep it respectful! This Off-season should be something to look forward to and I know the board will want some where to post.

I love the quote that says Miami will control free agency. Technically LeBron controls it, but once he re-signs with Cleveland, the power shifts to us.

Unless we sign Lebron and have 8 million more to spend...In that case we may need to open the box office @ AA Arena for all those players who will want to come here on a discount.

Like I said, if we can get LeBron, we need to ditch Beasley/Cook/draft pick/whatever else necessary at all costs so that we can get Bosh or Amare, possibly in a sign and trade for one of those players.
If you can put together 3 guys like that, it really doesn't matter who else you have. But its not happening, so whatever.

How will this thread be used differently then the other 2010 thread?

Re: 2010 Thread, Cap 56.1 Million: PT2
To quote some posts from the last thread for people who might've missed some recent stuff:
And a very nice breakdown by Tim_Hardaway:
It was at the end of Friday’s Board of Governors press conference, which I was giddy to unexpectedly find live on NBA TV, that David Stern revealed a massive surprise.
The commissioner says that the league is now projecting next season’s salary cap to be a robust $56.1 million, which is still down from this season’s $57.7 million but incredibly encouraging after last summer’s harrowing projections of the cap nosediving to a range between $50.4 million to $53.6 million for 2010-11.
“We found out this morning,” one team executive said. “It’s beyond huge.”
How huge?
The Knicks, for example, can now expect to have just over $34 million in salary-cap space, which is almost enough room for two max-level players … provided New York parts ways with David Lee.
The bigger winner, though, appears to be the Miami Heat.
The combination of a sudden $2.5 million in unforeseen extra cap space along with Toronto’s failure to make the playoffs –- which means that the Heat will not have to take on the Raptors’ first-round pick as expected –- will give Heat president Pat Riley sufficient financial flexibility to re-sign Dwyane Wade, sign someone like Amare Stoudemire away from Phoenix (as many league insiders expect) and still have room to sign another quality free agent above the mid-level exception.
Said the aforementioned team exec: “Miami might have just taken control of free agency.”
Washington, Chicago, Sacramento and the Los Angeles Clippers would also all have sufficient cap space to sign one max-level free agent thanks to the spending money teams will gain if the current projections hold firm over the next two-plus months before the official cap figure for 2010-11 is announced in July.
The Bulls will be especially pleased -- since they should now be able to afford a max-level player such as Chris Bosh or Joe Johnson without being forced to trade away a veteran such as Kirk Hinrich or Luol Deng or rookie James Johnson -- while New Jersey will be able to trump every team except New York with a projected $26 million in cap room.
But the biggest development to be gleaned from Stern’s disclosure is that Miami’s chances of keeping Wade have never looked better, since the Heat will have the requisite funds to promise Wade quality help if he stays.
And a very nice breakdown by Tim_Hardaway:
Some quick math...
Wade: 17.15 million
Max player: 17.15 million
Beasley: 5 million
Jones: 2 million after team option
Cook: 2.15 million
Anthony: .85 million
Chalmers: .85 million
1st round pick = 1.5 million
Total = 46.65 million
Leaving us with approximately 9.5 million in capspace after all of those players are taken care of.
What this doesn't account for is the possibility of a sign and trade for our max player, giving away money-making assets this season.
For example, if we gave up Beasley, Cook and a 1st round pick in a sign and trade for Bosh, we'd have 18.1 million in capspace, enough for a 3rd max free agent or lots of role players.

We normally close a thread once it reaches around 90 pages. The same thing will happen to the "Random Thoughts Thread and Random Trade Thread". We do this to clean up the board.....

Re: 2010 Thread, Cap 56.1 Million: PT2
I think these are our 3 main options: (assuming Wade re-signs).
A) Sign 3 max contracts (Wade + FA 1 + FA 2) if Riley sends out salary on the books right now in Beasley/Cook out in a deal for a S&T of one of those FA's.
B) Sign 2 max contracts (Wade + FA 1) and keep the core that's n the team now and split the extra 10 million or so on multiple role players.
C) Sign 2 max contracts ( Wade + FA 1) and trade out salary that's on the books in S&T for that one max and split up the extra $19 million or so among multiple role players.
Personally, I think option A just isn't that realistic and would be hard to swing. I like option C the best. Get an Amare in a sign and trade of Beasley + Cook and then have about 19 mil to split up among multiple role players.

Re: 2010 Thread, Cap 56.1 Million: PT2
thats true but riley is gung ho about stars
if its up to him, i think his 1st choice is to somehow land 3 superstars, even if means that our bench goes to hell...he is famous for loving big names and getting ring chasing vets on the cheap, any combo of amare, bosh, lebron, johson and boozer would suffice
if that fails then we just keep the same guys from this team and add one max (bosh or amare most likely)

Do we really have 3 second round picks in the draft?

I don't like sign-and-trading Beasley for Max2. Only Max3.
