UFC 117: Anderson Silva Vs Sonnen

Post#1 » by Headliner » Sat Apr 17, 2010 6:09 pm

UFC 117

Silva Vs Chael Sonnen

Sonnen said of the Middleweight champion: "[Silva is] really good. He’s really effective, and he’s as unpleasing to watch as grass growing.

"That’s why they called me to get rid of this cancer of the company."

Dana:

"If he ever acts like that again in the ring, I will cut him," White said in an interview with ESPN this week. "I don’t care if he’s the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

"I don’t care if he is the middleweight champion. I will cut him, absolutely."

Well if Sonen can back up his smack talk, then maybe we'll actually see a fight with Silva. Either way I doubt I see White cutting him. You can't cut guys like that.

I wouldn't be surprised if this were a free card on Spike. Silva likely took a big hit in terms of PPV buys and this would be a good way to bring his marketability back. That's what I would do of I were the UFC.

This show is in Salt Lake City, Utah. Have they ever had an event there?

Spike TV would not be a bad idea for this, but they are doing a free show on Versus the week before. I figure if they wanted to put Silva on free TV, they would just do it on that show.

I love Sonnen's trash talk, partially because his voice is so funny. I'm not sure what this fight will look like. Silva is obviously a much better fighter, but Sonnen's wrestling gives him a legit path to victory. Could be interesting.

It's a great fight. Silva can't **** around, he can't let Sonnen into the late rounds.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

People honestly think Sonnen has a chance?

Getting cut might be Silva's plan all along. A good way to get out of the champions clause without taking a hit against his record.

Sonnen is probably the best wrestler Silva has faced, because he doesn't care what people think about him using it to win a boring fight.

It's not like a pick'em or anything, Silva will still probably be about a 5 to 1 favourite and rightfully so, but Sonnen probably has the best chance out of anyone left at MW.

I want to see Vitor get a titleshot next. The timing works out well because his shoulder should be in good shape 3-4 months after the Silva/Sonnen fight.

The case for Vitor getting a title shot was never great, but it was acceptable at the time. I don't think it is any longer.

I wouldn't really complain, because I think Vitor is a worthy challenger, but by the time he could fight Silva, it will have been over a year since his fight with Franklin, which wasn't even at 185. If I had my way, he would have another fight in between, at least to shake off some of the ring rust. Even someone like Leben, Rivera, Belcher would be fine. A fight with Wandy if they want to make some money off it.

And Now it looks like GSP is going to be coaching TUF against Kos/Delay winner... and we were so close to this megafight...

Oh well. This is still a good fight. And of course it's going to have some of the best trash talking of all time. I hope they do a primetime.

Ugh, i guess so. Man i hate hate when TUF wastes the prime of great fighters. HOPEFULLY it doesn't actually happen, but it looks like it will according to this.

I guess one positive is that it will give the rest of the WW division some time to get itself in order. At least one of either Alves or Fitch will probably be on something of a run by then.

Any word on Alves? Last I heard his medical issue could be career ending.

He had surgery to move an artery in his brain if I remember correctly. Supposedly it was minor and they even used super-glue. And he's already training again and will fight Fitch at 115 in Vancouver.

Nice promo, but Sonnen doesn't have a chance.
