OT: Mets beat Cards in 20

Post#1 » by youngLion » Sun Apr 18, 2010 2:19 am

Former Jays shortstop Felipe Lopez just pitched a scoreless top of the 18th...

And the Mets score a run on a sac fly off a guy who last pitched...well, possibly 2001, possibly earlier than that. There are literally no statistics on Joe Mather's pitching, so the whole "three walks in one inning" thing shouldn't be much of a shock.

Edit: though 6 strikes in 23 pitches is pretty bad, even if you have no arms.

LaRussa had him intentionally walk one batter so that doens't help, but yeah he didn't look good. They should have kept Lopez in there.

Unfortunately I missed the run because I was watching Miami forget how to score.

Oh snap I turned it off figuring it was done. There was a rather tame scuffle in the Heat Celts game. Going back and forth between these streams is a hassle.

When will the hurting stop...

The people at the game could have gone home, had dinner and then come back without missing anything.

Mather is dealing 77 MPH fastballs, and apparently hasn't taken much fielding practice on the mound, either.

Hey now he was bringing the heat at 80 earlier. Clearly he's just changing speeds to throw the hitters' timing off. He's a regular Greg Maddux!

It says Reyes is 0 for 8. If the Jays had a game like this that's the type of line Overbay would have, probably 6 of them would be strikeouts.

Mets get another run now.

I just realized that Mather is pitching, while Kyle Lohse is playing LF. This is beyond silly.

C'mon, Mather...tie it up so you can pitch another inning.

Why did TLR call for a H&R with Pujols at the plate?

And why did he take Lopez out for Mather? Did Lopez pitch too well in the role for Tony?

Because using a reliever (even if that reliever is a middle infielder) for two innings scares Tony. Hell, letting them face two batters makes him antsy.

C'mon, Ludwick. Let's tie this baby up, I need to see some more 75 MPH fastballs.
