It doesn't seem as if we'll be in competition with other NBA teams for Darko's services. He's basically stated we'll be the only NBA option he would/will consider. That could change, but given that no other team was willing to offer up more than Cardinal's contract for him, it doesn't seem as if the demand was all that high. I also think some tend to make too much of what type of offers he could get in Europe.

Remember, our offer was in February for an out-of-shape Darko on the remainder of his $7.5 mil, and we still threw $800,000 of prorated cap space to NYK. This summer, he'll be in better shape, have shown he can play some with us, and probably raised his value.

I agree though that it will come down to Darko. His previous statements made it sound like he really wanted to go back to Europe. I suppose we can hope he gives us a discount for opportunity, but most people in the workplace won't accept to be paid like an assistant if they will be given the responsibilities of the lead worker.

i hope he stops shooting that darned hook shot EVERY time down and goes to different looks, face up jumpers, pump fake and drives, reverse pivot drop steps, turnaround jumpers...something different please darko...that hook shot became a baiil out shot for him because he wasn't confident enough to do anything else...time to try something different, it's not like you or the team have anything to lose.

We didn't give up any cap space, both teams were over the cap. We allowed the Knicks to save some money in lux savings and I believe NYK made up the difference between the two contracts in cash. We basically got him for free, and it seems like we may have been the only team interested and that some lux savings was the most any team was willing to pony up.

Teams had at least 6 years worth of tape on him at the deadline, Rambis and co. had a handle on what he could bring to the table, pretty unlikely they were the only ones. I don't think he's raised his value all that much with his play, he's basically done what he's usually done when given the chance. If his value's been raised, it's because he's shown willing to stay in the NBA, but if we're the only NBA team he'll consider signing with, that's a non-issue.

We're not asking him to be the lead worker. Rambis has told Darko to do whatever he feels comfortable doing and seems to have backed up whatever promises he's made in terms of minutes/role. People do take monetary discounts in return for comfort, opportunity and a trustworthy boss.
