Hahahahaha it wouldn't surprise me if our FO drafted a rapper instead of basketball player.

Yeah he seems like a good Sarver pick. Good for merchandising.

Concerning Varnado... I'd like him, but I think I'd love Larry Sanders. They look so so similar except it sounds like Sanders is a little better offensively. Still, if we can keep Amare, it'd be nice to have a defender/rebounder to pair him with when Lopez isn't in the game. It seems like that's the way to get the best out of Amare. Either would be good, I just think Sanders would offer more on both ends (plus he's a little taller)

I'll check out Sanders. I haven't seen him play - this is the first year I've really gotten interested in NCAA ball before the last stages of the tournament. Just never got into it - too many teams, too hard to get to know who's who, and the NBA already takes up a lot of my time

edit - DraftExpress has Sanders going in the mid-late 1st round. he sounds like a good bet

Mark it (draft day) off as yet another unspectacular event for us as fans. We will have to put up with a day of trade rumors, and the 'what if' bitterness when OKC uses our former pick. Hopefully, when Miami steals Stat, somehow, Kerr-plunk sneaks one of their 1st rndrs, but I doubt it.

Thats about the only way I see us with a decent one. We sure as hell are not buying any.

Strange draft .... with several teams with multiple picks. How did they do that ????

Memphis 13. 27. 29
Minn 2, 17, 25
Miami 15, 16
OKC 21, 22
New Jersey 1, 26
Wash 5, 30

Phnx....... 60 ?

Keep moving folks, nothing to see here.

Xavier Henry has fallen, I hope we could somehow trade up with our 2nd rounders to get this kid and move Barbosa.

Hey Frank, let me dream like the naive young lad I am, okay> Sarver tells Kerr to get us a first. We take Sanders, then garcia at 42 in the 2nd and a project for the #60

I’m not so sure he’d work out. As much as I'd love to see another German in the NBA and as much as he has improved this season, I think Ohlbrecht is just too soft to make it to the NBA and be anything more than a 10-12th man. The two main things that make him an interesting prospect are his length and his athleticism, other than that he's nothing special to be honest. He's a solid rebounder due to his length in the German 1st division but he's not strong enough to rebound against NBA big men.

nbadraft.net wrote:Strengths: Can put on a lot of weight (Has not done so and that scouting report was from 2004) Very versatile Can play any of the 2-5 positions (can’t play the 2 or 3 at any professional level) Exceptional at running the floor (true) An explosive leaper with quickness and athleticism (true) Hits the three consistently when left open (true, he hit 36% on 90 attempts this season) An athletic shotblocker with good timing Finishes well around the basket (... if he's not bothered by stronger players, of which there are a whole lot) Has a nice repertoire of moves in the paint (not really, at least he can't pull them off against German 1st division big men, he doesn’t have to create his shot a whole lot). Posesses good vision and passing skills (meh)
Weaknesses: Needs to improve on his help defense as he picks up too many senseless fouls when helping out teammates Should become more selfish and demand the ball more Inexperienced, has not played a high level of competition yet, but has been dominant at the younger levels Still very young, but will need to get a lot stronger, so maintaining his agility while adding strength will be important. (all of that is still true except for the high level of competition if you want)

But speaking of german PF/C prospects, Tibor Pleiss would be a better choice for you guys. He's just as good as Ohlbrecht, a bit taller (7-1 to 6-11), younger and much less experienced (ergo: has more room to grow). He actually was brought in as a replacement for Ohlbrecht on his team. He's incredibly productive in the 18mpg he plays (he starts for his team though).

Ohlbrecht's BBL stats: 22.4 mpg, 10.3 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.3 bpg (4th in the league), 3.0 fouls, 51% FG, 35.6% 3PT
Pleiss' BBL stats: 18.2 mpg, 7.8 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.4 bpg (which leads the league), 2.3 fouls, 56.9% FG

Ohlbrecht's Eurocup stats: 25.2 mpg, 7.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 0.3 bpg, 4.2 fouls, 42.5% FG, 35.7% 3PT
Pleiss' Eurocup stats: 17.1 mpg, 8.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 0.9 bpg, 2.4 fouls, 54.4% FG

Ohlbrecht shoots a lot more threes which is part of why his FG% is worse. Pleiss also has shown the ability to knock down that shot though.
It’s also worth noting that Pleiss gets to the line at a considerably better rate than Ohlbrecht (6.42 to 4.22 FTA/40). Part of that is of course to the fact that Ohlbrecht takes more shots from the outside.
Pleiss recently has had statlines like 8 pts (3-5 fg, 2-2 ft), 9 rbs, 7 blks with only 2 fouls in 30 minutes OR 17 pts (6-7 fg, 5-6 ft), 8 rbs, 2 blks, 2 fouls in 21 minutes OR in his best offensive game so far 26 pts (7-10 fg, 1-2 3pt, 11-15 ft), 4 rbs, 1 blk, 2 fouls in 30 minutes. Other than that there have been several games with double-digit rebounding numbers and several with 8 or 9 rebounds. Also, he’s 9th in the league in Efficiency rating per 40 at 22.79 (Ohlbrecht at 20.08 is pretty good in that category too). He's really developing fast and it looks like we'll have one of the better frontcourts in the next international tournaments (Dirk, Jagla, Femerling, Pleiß, Ohlbrecht) even if Kaman decides he doesn't want to play for our national squad anymore.

edit: He would be perfect to stash overseas as he's already said that he wants to play in the ACB in a few years (he's already had offers from teams like Real Madrid) and that ultimately his goal is the NBA, but that he wants to reach that goal step by step. DX currently has him going in the second round in the 2011 draft. (Btw, they need to change his weight, he's bulked up to 257 lbs from the 220 on DX's page)
