McCown may be on Bears

Yeah I thought Cade as well when I read this headline.

The Bears aren't expected to draft a quarterback this week, but it wouldn't be a surprise if they added a veteran via a final dip into the secondary free agent market. One they're believed to have considered is Josh McCown, who spent most of last season on injured reserve with the Panthers after a minor foot injury.

It would make sense if the Bears targeted a quarterback familiar with offensive coordinator Mike Martz's system, and McCown, 30, spent 2006 with the Lions under Martz. He has good size and athletic ability and could be a steadying influence worth evaluating in training camp.

McCown, who had a a tryout with the Saints earlier this offseason, learned Martz's offense well enough to get on the field as a wide receiver with the Lions.

Marc Bulger, another quarterback well-versed in Martz's offense, is seeking a new home after the Rams released him, but he'll first look for a place he can start instead of hold a clipboard.

Fine by me. No reason to basically hand it to Hanie again.

Cliff Levingston expects our backup QB situation to be pretty irrelevant again.

Sure - why not ? And draft another one while you're at it.

I always like the old Packers strategry of drafting a QB even if your roster isn't in need in the chance you strike gold. If a QB is far and away the top guy on your draft board when your number comes up you've got to give it serious consideration.
Turn down for what?
