Brad Miller return to the Pacers?

Post#1 » by pacershereiam » Sat Apr 17, 2010 1:49 pm

Remember a few years ago, he said he wanted to retire as a Pacer and that he would take the minimum to make it happen. What do you guys think those chances are that he will return to the Pacers? He is a free agent this year.

A lot has changed since then. All the players he played with are gone except Foster. Walsh is gone. And we aren't a successful or winning franchise anymore. So I doubt it. Don't get me wrong I would love to bring him in at vet min to help Hibbert.

I don't think it had to do so much with who he played with and who was in charge. I think it was more because the Pacers were his home town team. He owns a lot of property in Indiana and has a lot of family here. I think it's still possible, especially because he's not playing to the level he was when we traded him, either. I would love to see him come, too.

Yeah, I think it has to do less with our players, and more to do that we're his hometown team. However, personally, I see him re-upping with Chicago, it's really not that far from where's he's from.

He would fulfill a role that would be very useful. He's a rare center who knows how to run an offense. Hibbert already has good passing. It would be nice to have a Miller back in Indy.

IMO .. not interested... he's OLD and NOT consistant. He can't play D (very vital at the C position) & of course there can only be one MILLER in indiana, and it ain't BRAD.

He doesn't have to play to fulfill his role.

He might be old, but I'd still say he's better than most centers in the league.

if he can settle for lesser money, i'd say take him in. maybe he can teach hibbert a thing or two in terms of shooting and passing. plus, i still say he's still better than Foster even if he's older than a year.
Not a good defender, but i think it's for the younger big guys like Hibbert and Jones to cover.

If he can be had real cheap lets do it for sure. That'd be a nice backup to Hibbert and can give good minutes at a great price.

Miller would be a help to Hibbert. Don't know if you guys have noticed, but:

As the season wore on I noticed more and more that when a guard came to double Hibbert when he was posting up he didn't just look to pass, he looked to pass to that guy's defender. For example if the PG came to him, he looked for Earl Watson. In the games that he commanded a double he was doing a great job of making that double ineffective.
He's a smart kid, and he's working to develop a lot of smart plays that great centers make.

As PR07 said, despite his age, he is still one of the better centers in the league and can hold his own against anybody, and is doing a fine job right now against the Cleveland front court. So, he will still demand a good chunk of money this summer. There's gonna be a bidding war for Miller and depending how many teams are in the mix, the more he will get. Pacers won't win the rights to any player in a bidding war.

I do agree, i would love to see a veteran big to go among with Hibbert. I liked what they did two seasons ago having Nesterovic around for Roy's rookie year.

Btw, according to wiretap via NY Post, it seems like NYK will be interested in Miller- http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... at_center/

Anyone hoping he'll come cheap is just wishful thinking, he'll command at least the MLE I expect.

^^At his age? I'm not totally sure. If he does, it'll be overpayment unless it's less than 3 years.

Yeah, I think so. I still think he'd be a starting center on a lot of teams.

Besides the Knicks, who are pushing because Donnie likes the guy, I can't really think of teams that he'd start on. Teams either have young prospects or a system that may be too fast for a 35-year-old 7-footer.

I could see him starting on Washington, New York, Oklahoma City, Miami, among others.

Maybe Oklahoma, but in terms of next season, it depends on Miami's resigning of Jermaine O'Neal. If he stays, Miller probably wouldn't start, unless they wanted to put Beasley at the 3. And Washington likes McGee and Blatche. Maybe I'm underrating Miller, but I don't see him as much more than a 20-minutes-a-night kind of rotation player. That has more to do with the mileage in his legs than his ability.

If Miami can't get JO back, what if we can get him for cheap? Would people be opposed to that?

I would. Since he left the Pacers I can see the obvious negatives of his game. He is an inefficient offensive player and prone to getting beat by other centers. I see him as worth around 7 mil, but somebody out there would pay 9 mil for his services.
